No one puts a gun to anyones head and forces them to sign on the dotted line.
Consumer Credit obviously had a way to target the right audience. They weren't sending info packages out to people who lived in Silicon Valley or Beverly Hills.
Desperate people take desperate measures sometimes.
When you hit the bottom of the barrel or close, people tend to take chances and often do things under Duress without proper thinking that they may not normally do.
This was a Scam, pure and simple, no different than the Nigerian Money scam or any of the others.
They were in the Money Transferring Business.
They Transferred money from the clients pocket, into their own.
There is nothing wrong with a good Hustle, so to speak. Lots of enjoyable movies have been made about Hustles and Stings.
But, when innocent people are hurt and others laugh all the way to the bank, leaving others in a more precarious position than before, that would be considered a crime against Humanity.
Thats what it was, no more, no less. Nothing Good or funny about it.
One person can afford 8 Lambos and another doesn't have the money to put half a tank of fuel in their car.
If you plan on partaking of this type of business, then at least, the best plan of action for the future is not to openly brag about how you made your money.
As someone mentioned, sure, lots of us aren't as pure as the driven snow. I have a few Skeletons in my closet and room for a few more before I go but at least I can hold my head up when working and conducting my everyday business.
