Excited! That is all I can say about this whole process so far.

I still think the resume' is a good idea. We are all rooting for you to get a sponsor John! LOL, Don't forget to put on your resume' that you come and talk to your fans on AZ...;) We get a few pros here and we love all of them for it. Plus, we could maybe get your avatar fixed up with their logos!

Are you sure you aren't in marketing, Donovan? Great idea about the sponsor's logo with John Schmidt's Avatar.

Somebody help John get set up with paypal so he can sell his DVD.

Six days to go. Do they update the brackets on AZ or on Allen's site for the VF? I forget. Johnnyt

John,

Why don't you play in more events?

I can't help think you would have done very well in the bar table championships where Kiamko just won 18k, plus the world's last November had some real nice payouts.

Personally, I think you represent the top tier of American talent and the world needs to see more of you.

Not trying to start a fight, but this is crazy!!

This is crazy to me. I can appreciate all the help fellow AZB’ers are doing here for a guy many say is “nice”, “great for the game”, and so on. BUT, this still drives me crazy and here is why.

John has won all this money in other tournaments he’s won or finished in the cash. WHERE IS THE MONEY?

John sells his straight pool video for something crazy like $39.99. Again, WHERE IS THE MONEY?

Sponsors? He doesn’t have a single one? If he has at least one, then WHERE IS THE MONEY?

Most pros give lessons and I’m guessing John does too, again, WHERE IS THE MONEY?

All you guys are willing to put up some cash to a guy most of you really don’t know. How do you know he’s not just like the bum on the corner of the road with a sign stating he’s homeless and needs cash? Do you open your window and give that guy $100? I’m guessing not because you probably think he put himself in that position. At least that guy doesn’t have any income what so ever. John on the other hand has an income and yet still cant come up with a $1000 bucks? WHAT? Come on!!

Would you give other PRO athletes your money?

I’m not saying John isn’t a nice guy or that he doesn’t know how to manage his money
(ok, maybe just a little), however I am saying is there are tens of thousands of other people out there who need the money more then John does and I sure hope many of you are just as eager to help them. Remember you also get a tax deduction if you donate cash, items, or time to charity.

Can someone teach me how to plonk someone?

This is a tight-knit forum where most folks come to know and trust (or distrust) others over time. On several occasions, regular members have banded together to support a cause, usually related to pool or some other worthy event, like sending billiard equipment to soldiers in Iraq. If you don't want to participate, then just close the thread. I, personally, can understand the dual reasoning behind this support...it both helps someone worthy of the help and creats excitement for pool fanatics, like me. Sorry I got in too late...would have been fun! :p

{snip pointless dribblings}

You seem to not have any idea what is going on here, I will try to explain. Nobody "gave" John money. We are backing him, we get a percentage of the winnings. Think investment or gambling.

As for where John's money is, I will repeat myself from earlier in this thread (you did not read all the posts did you?): what John does or does not have is none of your business. John posted to the board a business proposition, go read his initial post. He is not asking for a hand out or charity. In fact, quite the opposite. A couple of backers said that if John finished well they just want their initial $100 back and for John to keep the rest. John would hear nothing of this.

There are many reasons for professional players to get a backer and all the reasons have one thing in common - none of the reasons are any of your business (or mine for that matter).

michael <- usually much nicer, but getting tired of nits asking this question

If Tiger Woods offered people a chance to back him and take a percentage of his winnings, people would see it as an opportunity, not "giving" him money. Are you blind? Read the posts!

I think I've mentioned this already....but here we go, again:

I put in my measly 100 bucks to back John because I thought it would be fun to have "a horse in the race." I have faith in the fact that there were 30 folks behind the original 10, just waiting for a chance to get in on the opportunity.

I took John's post as exactly that.....an opportunity.

If he wins, I get my investment back, plus some cake.

If he doesn't, I still have the memory of having had a stake in the race.

Either way, it's worth it to me......and I wish him all the best.

That 100 is better spent on John, even in a field of 1,000,000....than ME, in a field of 20....so why not go with the law of averages??!! :) :)

This is my first time in "betting" on a pro game, anyway....and the experience is worth the bucks, too.

GOOD LUCK, JOHN!!!!

That's the bottom line.

I am on the waiting list. If an opportunity comes up again to back John, I want in. If you don't, so be it.

If Efren Reyes has $1,000,000 in the bank and asked for $100 with a 5 to 1 return if he won the 1P division at the DCC, people would be killing each other to give him a $100.

I could care less what John does with his money, it's none of my business. If he want's a backer, more power to him and more fun for us!

who's side is John on? HIS.

I want to know who is going to baby sit John? What’s going to happen if John get a “good” deal to gamble and then stays up all night playing someone and then wins some cash. Then he is to tired to play well in the tourney and looses. Is this fair to the 10 people who paid money? NOPE! What if he gets there and someone else decides to make him a better deal? They will pay the $1000 and only wants 35% of the winnings? Will he refund your money and take the better deal? HELL YES! I’ve even heard he’s done that exact same thing. Who’s going to make sure he doesn’t drink to much? I could go on and on why giving someone else money who may or may not ever have your best interest in mind is in my opinion is crazy.

I don't want to make a big deal out of it at all. I don't know John, i have never met him. But i did find it very funny that a guy who wins all this money and sells his video for way too much money needs to beg for cash online. To me that is funny as sh#$. This is one reason why pool will never become a big time sport. Most all the pros in the sport for the most part are dogs. Me Me Me. Why don't they put up there own money and try to make a go of it. I bet i could play 10x better in a tourny if i didn't have to worry about winning. But when my rent money is on the line i have way more to loose.

This is why I am thinking this is crazy. All of you have your own money to do what you want to and I’m cool with that. I’m just saying I’d never do it.

Actually you are saying a lot more than that....or else your pointless, ill driven posts would not be so large.

I think the guy can "baby sit" himeself just fine.Insinuate much?

Good god man...I'm not sure you can more of a tool.

Edited to add I just noticed the word "beg".If I were a mod this would be your last post.Begging is certainly not the case, but you continue to ignore the replies explaining as much.Probably because the honest answer doesn't fit your rather obvious agenda of bashing the guy,or pros in general.

Props to the AZB ten.As I said earlier in this thread I think its a great solution.
