Highest pool-playing skill level Pool Instructor that you know.

Thanks Scott. Ya, that was a great Tournament for me. A National Title was close. Then I had to go back to work.

I just now picked my cue up again after 6 months. I teach
full time (6 days @ week ) so I have very little, if any time to play. I consider myself an Instructor but I still really like to compete. Hard to do both at once!

Joey asks for an Instructor who can play. That would be Mark Wilson first and many of my Instructor friends next.....SPF=randyg

Who do you think is the best playing "genuine" pool instructor you know of?

I'm talking about pool instructors who regularly provide pool instruction to students, not professional pool players who occasionally give pool lessons.

A couple of instructors come to mind even though I have only witnessed one of the three playing and teaching in person.

At the top of my list is Stan Shuffett with BCA certified credentials and his aiming system, called Pro One. Stan's pool playing skill level speaks for itself. Since I have taken pool lessons from Stan I can assure you that not only can he play well but he teaches at least as well.

Although I haven't seen either of the following two instructors in person (and I'm looking forward to it), Joe Tucker and David "BLACKJACK" Sapolis are up there as well. If you haven't seen any of Joe's youtube videos, you have spending too much time on AZ Billiards. Blackjack has been around for a long time and while his game apparently goes up and down, he has been known to play some very nice speed straight pool.

Do you have any other instructors who you consider very good players?

(Please don't include professional pool players unless they make a special effort to teach pool on a regular basis.)

Thanks!
JoeyA

i think Stan, Dave and Joe in no order are the 3 best guys out there-from what I have heard for advanced players, learning advanced stuff.

Its hard to say who's best for what, some guys are great fundemental teachers, some teach 14.1 and 1P, some for aiming methods or rail systems for kicking.

Randy and Scott are both great instructors and are sincere about passing the info along. Thanx for the time spent with us , Howard and Kim from Mississippi, saw Ya'lll in Huntsville

David Matlock is giving weekly lessons at Shooters-Olathe, and is still playing pretty sporty.

This has been a great thread. Lots of good playing instructors out there.

Thanks to all for your participation.

The only instructor I know personally is Ray Martin. But as a former world champion and HOFer, I'd say he plays pretty sporty.

Without reading the previous posts I'll say Mark Wilson, Jeff Carter and the guy that taught them a thing or two... back in the day, Sailor of Racine. Sailor is still around still teaching. If you want to learn straight pool talk to Sailor.

Yeah... but when it comes to intelligence and having a set of nuts I can give you the orange crush.

OK, I have an idea. Instead of snipping back N forth, why don`t U tell the board details or UR `pro` career and settle it?

What `pro` events have U played?

What players have U beat?

What years were U playing `pro` or on the road?

Brian

Or another idea...why not take a trip down there. I'm sure BJ will be willing to match up and you can find out for yourself.
Just another option.

Steve

You first Brian...tell us of your 'pro' exploits. Oh wait...you said you're NOT a pro (you just b*tch about the tournaments you can't play in)! But surely you have published some great instructional material...no again? Hmmmmm...Dave's pedigree passes yours like he's going 100 mph, and you're standing still.

Charlie Bryant plays jam up & loves to teach and while I haven't witnessed it first hand I'm sure its high quality instruction.

Charlie knows more than he can muster the words for. He has very crazy ideas that work, and I think he can teach anyone something. I think he is probably one of the best instructors out there.

Danny Harriman is another that can teach anyone something.

Mike Massey, Nick Varner, Earl Strickland and, Keith Mcready can can all teach. I think about any great player can teach if the student asks the right questions...

good thread

I like threads like this ....no bashing just a good note about folks.Stan
Shuffett gets my vote . Last night I got to play for the 1st time in a couple
of weeks .My game was off to say the least .So after I played my friend a
couple of short races and he went home I pulled out the book I got when
I took the 2 day course with Stan....well after about 10 mins of going through
that book and doing just a couple of adjustments that Stan pointed out I was
back in line .
Also one of these days I do want to nail down Charlie Bryant and take a
lesson from him as he is out there playing as well as teaching. At the US open
he told me a couple things about the mental game that are slowly sinking in.
We are just lucky that all this information is available to us these days

I have personally seen Charlie give lessons and it was a jaw dropping experience how he can meet and communicate with a student on whatever skill level they play.

I like all of the above players but they are not bona fide instructors and am sure they can all teach something of importance. They just don't do it on a regular basis in my opinion.

Congratulations RandyG. I missed out on your fine performance.
