I am pretty sure that if it's on live stream then we will all be counting the balls. In any event it's up to David now if he wants to do this. You said you would bet $1500 and I'd like to bet the whole $1500 but I understand if you want to bet less.

Make the arrangements and let's agree on where to send the money.

John

Edited to add that I just found out that David has Parkinson's disease. I would like to double the bet to $3000 just so I can donate this asshole's money to a worthwhile charity that is involved in fighting this disease.

Can't rep ya again.

Thanks Kaz....I'll have to see about Karen. Anyone know her contact info?

She used to hang at Pete Fusco's poolroom in Feasterville, PA. You might wanna give them a call and see if they can help.

Alot of great players have been named in this thread but I wanted to also add that being a great player is not necessarily indicative of that person's ability to teach. The best coaches in the world rarely are the best players, instead, they excel in the analysis and communication to another player of how to improve.

APA7, you sure do like to stir it up eh?

If you can get lessons from Karen Corr, and actually concentrate on what she is saying instead of 'something else', you are way, way, too addicted to pool! :D

Thanks for the thought there Neil...but my wife's are that big...and she's much much prettier.

hey....rather than fight on this thread....what say we get on topic.
Yeah...like that'll happen.

What makes a good instructor anyway? I'm looking for a local teacher(Allentown PA area) and am wondering, does a person who is a BCA certified instructor automatically have credentials?

There is a local guy by the name of Dale Sukenik(BCA Certified) that gives instructions but I've never talked to anyone who's taken lessons.

Actually...I've talked to almost no one who admits taking lessons. Most seem to be afraid to admit they didn't learn everything they know on their own.

Any thoughts?

Hey Koop!!! Great avatar!!

All who have attended the BCA Certification course will most definitely have proper, fact based knowledge of the fundamentals which are required to play pool at a high level with any consistency.

I'm sure that all who have attended the course have a desire to teach very well also, but I think what separates the top notch instructors from the average is their communication skills and how well they can relate to different types of personalities and still get their points across to their students. No matter how skilled or knowledgeable a player/instructor may be it is useless unless he can pass that information along to the student in a clear positive manner that will make said student hunger to continue learning and progressing past a first lesson. If the message isn't received and embedded in the student's brain then most likely no positive progress will be had with that player and he/she will most definitely not return for future training.

I will graciously admit to taking instruction from my friend Rob Moreno while I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and I'm thankful for it! I learned more from Rob's teachings in just a few days than I had in the 14 years of playing experience I had prior to his course. I highly recommend all players who have reached a plateau in their game to attend a course by a certified instructor. Hey, if you don't learn anything then I'm sure you are already a world champ and you can walk away and go take over the pool world! :)

Keep hittin' em straight!

One name that is absent here is Danny Basavich... He is one of the best "real world" teachers of the game that I ever seen. Danny has an uncanny ability to size up what skill level a student is at and what the best direction is for that player to improve their game. For those in the NY, NJ, and Philly area, you can't do any better IMO......

If you have any doubts as to how much your instructor knows,,,,, ask him to show you how to exicute a Nurse shot. If he doesn't know what it is or doesn't shoot it like this,,,,,,,,,,,,, go elsewhere........ http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=308552133128617502&hl=en
Nice shot Hemi. This shot was very effective back in the day when the bar tables had the big cue ball. Because of the extra weight the execution range was much larger with the big ball compared with what we have today.

I wonder how many people even know the shots that Grady Mathews had on his one pocket VHS tape. Now there is a teacher who can blow most people away in the knowledge category.

Totally true, dabarbr. With the old United cue ball you could nurse an object ball half way down the rail with virtually no rebound of the cue ball.

It was a much easier shot with the heavy ball. With today's cue balls you must get much more spin and slide.

Ducking you? I asked to raise the bet. Whatever you want. I said it's up to David if he wants to do it. The man is having medical issues and you probably know that.

I will be glad to send in my money right now to whomever we can mutually trust.

For the record I think it's pretty low of you to do what you are doing with these remarks but if you want to be low class AND broke then that's your choice.

Let's post the cash right now. If the thing doesn't go off inside of a month then we each get the money back less whatever fees are incurred.

I will post with JoeyA, TAR, FastAndLoose, WalkerinTN or any number of reputable posters on this board.
