How long have you been playing with your cue?

Almost 18 years with my Dishaw, though I've had a couple of others in there a couple of times I've played with the Dishaw the most. Since last September with my Varney.

Over the years...

This is interesting questions...I wonder with all the cues that available in the market now...how often are playing changing cues if at all? Are you still finding your holy grail of cue?

I have been playing with my Joel Weinstock for well over 5 years now and it's one the best playing cue that I have had and will probably ever find. There are other cues that I would said hit as good but I would have to play with in for another 5 years plus to compare. I also have sentimental values with the cues as it has taken down some monster players in tournaments. That longest that I heard and know of to date is Gerry Watson who been playing with his Meucci cue faithly now for well over 30 years.

I still have my McDermott D-10. It's my break cue for 9 & 8 ball now. Same shaft and same tip that came with it. I have the second original shaft also.
I have a Viking in the closet, circa 1969, 2 shafts.

My player is a Viking, 2007 semi custom. Don't remember the model. I liked it so much I bought two. The weight is 17.75 and 2, Z-2 shafts with Schon's tips. I'll take them to my grave figuratively speaking.

Had the same old ivory joint Joss in the same old Fellini case for around 40 years now... still hits the ball better than I do!

Two Years

I started buying custom cues in 2004. Chudy, Capone, Hercek, Bluegrass, Sugartree, Morris, Howard, etc.

I would play with them until I got a new one then I would play with that for a while, from like 6-9 months. Two years ago, I saw a Tascarella Hoppe for sale and had to have it. It has a hit, sound (loud) and a feel that is perfect for me. I only have a few other cues now, but a few weeks ago I brought them all to the pool hall and played with all of them.

Still using the Tasc, can't put it down.

Got my Szamboti back in the spring of 1977 and started running out with it as soon as I picked it up out of the box Gus sent it in--still playing with it almost every day--Barry made 2 shafts for it back some time ago--It was with me all over the country while traveling the road back then, I don't take it out of the house now though, need a cue that I could move around with, just haven't had the will power to set the cue aside, even as I push the that 60 number---

Assuming we're talking about your "player" ?

I have somewhere around 40 cues but only one real player, which was custom built (2 year wait) and has been 'the one' for around 5 years now I think.

Before that was another that held the spot for about 19/20 years-ish. Retired mostly due to age and fear of loss or damage.

I have no reason to believe that the current cue won't hold the spot for the same time or longer.

Been playing seriously for 1 year, and have had 2 cues. I got my first cue which was an Action last year in March, played with that for 6 months. My second cue would be my current player which is my J&J Bushka influence and have been playing with that for 6 months. I ordered my "gonna be" custom player about a month ago and it's gonna be done next week which I definitely wanna try to keep forever, more than likely wont be my player forever, cause the "Cue bug" has bitten me pretty hard", but intend to keep it cause its my first custom.

I have played with my Kikel since 2005 and am having a new one being built now.. Waiting patiently, kind of, sort of, in a way......

Same Joss I got in 1988....so 24 years?

I'm experimenting with other cues lately, but the Joss is always my mainstay.

A related questions to everyone that posted.....does your cue plays better over time?

I personally believe if the cue feel right the first time...and the more you play with it....over time...the cue just get better and better. Having said that I've tweaked my cue overtime.....changing from steel to an ivory joint, changing the lining wrap to a leather as well as changing tips. I think I done all the changes possibles that suit my style and how I want the cue to feel when I hit the cue ball. I also remember exactly how I aim with my cue for certain common shots. When you use an aiming system with the same cue...it's becoming a deadly combination overtime as your become more proficient. I always play with the same radius on my tip so that keeps the consistency as well. One thing I do is collect shafts for my holiday grail. I have about 3 shafts for it and I will select the appropriate shaft depending on the table that I play on. Just find that sometime, one shaft is much better to play on a certain table vs other.

Here's a pics of my holy grail of cue (1st Cue on the left):

I really like these old classic huebler cue. Just picked up 2 huebler cues...one original and another from Jayman that have brazilian rosewood with points. Going to fix them up and see how they play.
