Not calling anyone out... nor trying to point fingers at any specific pool player. I'm just curious to see how pool fans on AZB think.

Seems like every time a player misses a ball, someone will cry "DUMP" or "looks like some business going on here" etc.

So how many of you honestly believe top-leve pro pool players are willing to throw matches in a major like the US Open?

My opinion is that these conspiracy theorists just want to sound like they're experts who are In The Know about the secret underworld of pool.

Either that, or they don't get the difficulty of some shots and don't understand why a "gimmie" is actually missable. A certain ball might be easy to roll in with no english but it's a different story blasting at warp speed with heavy sidespin. Or a combo might be easy but not if you're trying to actually hit it towards the fat or thin side of the pocket so you can control the first ball.

In fact, the old accustats magazines show that typical pros miss about 5 balls for every 100 pocketed.

Guaranteed money is better than no money.
Not sure in the US Open but it happens .

Im curious...

Creedo, I'm curious...where did this thinking come from?

Why would you think anyone would dump "now in the final four of the US 9B Open" or in any other pro caliber tournament?

The fact that this question can even come up is part of the problem with the game. A dump in pool. A dive in boxing. A fix in horse racing. Golf, Tennis, & Auto Racing do not seem to have this tpye of problem. The game needs to become honorable before the general public will really accept Billiards other than that of a cheap hustle.

Just mt $0.02.

Regards,

I don't see a dump among these 4 and if there is certainly Shane isn't involved. There may be some savers in play though. Who knows.

you read the whole post? I don't...

I would think for someone to make it to the final four in the Us open and then think about dumpping, thats just not going to happen, imagine how great one would feel to make it to the final 4 in the open and then lose on purpose(for a little money) certain things are not all about the money and to me this would be one of them, so no i dont think anyone that has a heart would ever cheat their selfs out of a chance to win the Us open! some trophies are worth more then their face values and this is for sure the one!

I agree SVB is a fine upstanding citizen. He would never be involved in any funny business of any sort. SVB is the most honorable person in United States pool.

that's how I feel about it too. Some feel that playing for pride doesn't really happen in pro pool. But I think when you grow up being one of the best pool players anyone knows, you get a certain amount of ego. How do you let that pride go when you have the opportunity to show everyone you're one of the best in the world?

Additionally, is there anyone accumulating so much money in side bets, that they can offer a player... say... 40k to dump? Where do you get that kind of action now that vegas has closed the book on these things?

This. It always amuses me when the "smart" guys start crying dump. It has happened and will probably happen in the future but in majors it is extremely rare IMO. Only way I could see it in the final four of a major is if there was an enormous amount bet on the side and that doesnt happen often if ever.

I think a lot of the "smart" guys underestimate how big of an influence ego plays when it comes to the elite players.

There's not enough money bet on pool to make someone even think about dumping. Top Players can win $25,000 for FIRST plus all the extra you can make indirectly which would be a lot over the course of the next few years.

This poll is a joke!

First off, Congrats to SVB!

you read the whole post? I don't...

You're the OP, it's your "thoughts"...why would you start a poll like this?

I would think for someone to make it to the final four in the Us open and then think about dumpping, thats just not going to happen, imagine how great one would feel to make it to the final 4 in the open and then lose on purpose(for a little money) certain things are not all about the money and to me this would be one of them, so no i dont think anyone that has a heart would ever cheat their selfs out of a chance to win the Us open! some trophies are worth more then their face values and this is for sure the one!

I would like to think that this is how these 4 individuals would feel making it this far. However, whenever money is involved stranger things can happen right? Does everyone have a price?...is $40K enough to buy out any one of these 4 champions?

Out of these 4, Dennis is the only one that hasn't won the Open. I think he wants this title bad, and it showed by him making it to the finals.

Efren is the oldest, time is not on his side. I don't think he would dump, since he would be ecstatic to win the Open at his age.

It's obvious SVB didn't dump since he won.

So does that leave the question that Alex dumped? As a fierce as a competitor as he is, I DON'T THINK SO!!

This poll is a joke!

I don't think its likely that anyone would dump in a major like this, especially since vegas doesnt offer a line.

Its the smaller tourneys where the shenannigans are likely to happen.

Jmho.

I agree with most of the previous posters. No dumping going on here. Maybe a saver or two but there is a huge difference in a saver and a dump.
