How much did your playing cue cost?

Friday night beer hustler - Old meucci SP <Traded a $60 guitar for>

New player - $400 - JOSS 07-Tour

B/J - $60 "Player" cue

$175 with a nice leather wrap and two shafts that I got from an old guy in Brooklyn. I think he's dead now. Not a real fancy cue but pretty solid.

Haha... I think a better title for this thread might be: "How much is your playing cue worth?"

Do I win something if I come in first? Actually, I only paid $25 of the $175. My parents gave me the cue as a birthday present and the guy got the order wrong and the cue I got was too light. I sold it locally for the $150 original cost and got another one from him with some more MOP and the right weight for another $25.

I am playing with a 1982 Made In China National Cue Company clone of a McDermott. I paid $8 for it with a 1x1 generic vinyl case. Cue and case were rescued from a dumpster behind a bar. I bought them from the rescuer. They were filthy. I cleaned them, installed an Elk Master tip, sanded the shaft with 1000 grit paper, and it works just fine for me. I call the cue "Dumpy". $10 +/- for many hours of enjoyment.

Predator SE-3 MSRP $1500.00, paid $1245.00 ish. Currently being converted to a Radial Pin Joint Wood to Wood, w/Duralite White Collar, Predator Z-2 Shaft. Refinished new investment $242.00.

Can't wait to get it back. Having Nightmares been 3 weeks.

Predator BK2 $300.00 and change.

Black Cat

Depends on where I'm playing. My $100 multi-purpose cue of the past 10 years:

Cuetec Prestige (Gloss white butt with gold "Cuetec" script)
FERRULE Made of the highest quality ABS material.
SHAFT Clear fiberglass clad over North American Maple is highly resistant to dents, dings, and scratches.
BUTT Black Implex joint with matching butt cap. Solid rubber bumper provides extra protection.
WEIGHT Cuetec's Acueweight system provides you with the weight of your preference.

Mods:
-Sanded off all paint and decals down to clear fiberglass over maple on shaft and butt.
- Masked off a 12" grip area and hit it with two coats of Rustoleum Truck Bed Coating, black, of course.
- Added Acueweights to 22.5 oz.

It plays fine, breaks fine, looks OK but not worth stealing and seems indestructible. Best fighting cue ever manufactured IMHO (except an old house Dufferin):D.

I liked how it worked out so much that when I stumbled across a good deal on a rare used Z2 with Cuetec joint, I got it for those nights I think I can complete play without having to reverse ends.

My other playing cue (in a different case, for different nights) is a Predator SP, wood joint, no wrap, Z2 shaft. The whole cue costs $280, only $30 more than the shaft alone. Best deal going if you want to play a Predator shaft.

Mine was about $1300, made by a German Cuemaker calles Sven Schmidt, after my own wishes and it is the greates piece of wood I ever played...

Butt and Forearm are ebony, handle and the rings are made of a lovely piece of maccassar ebony, everything white is ivory, the tip of the spear is silver and the tongue of the snake is made of a tiny piee of a wood, that he calls "red heat" (no clue if this is a real name...)

Also included was a MEZZ style extention and two shafts with ivoryx ferrule

Playing cue was free. A friend bought a lathe and gave me one of his experiments. Plays lights out, straight as an arrow. I might think about selling it at $300.

Players

I have two main players for pool halls a Harvey Martin style Tad ..
For beer joints and bars I use a Outlaw with Z2 shaft..
For the Tad I paid 1000. with two shafts.
For the Outlaw 200. with Z2 shaft..
I'm just a banger so I play the same speed with either cue...

My Schon SP #15 that I bought in 1983 I paid $350 for it. My Phillipi that is my main principal playing cue I paid $750 for it. My 2nd backup cue is my ivory jointed Coker which I paid $1,500 for. My Runde that I occasionally play I paid $1,200 for it. The McDermott Dubliner that I use for my 9-ball playing I basically got it just above store cost when I was working at my local pro shop. A benefit of having worked for my employer for over 10 years at the time.

About $40 the killer is the ten grand I spent on the stuff to make it with.

LOL...that has to be the best post of this new year? I'm sure your fellow cue maker's "feel" your pain... ?

With that said, it's all about marketing.... many "models" to choose from. Get on a reality cue making TV show (if there is such a thing?)...made man....
Correct name on the label... and then U sell everything U make at a premium price. Unknown name on the label...struggle...

A lot of us can relate to that . Jim

$600 for one of my Bacote Hustlers (I have 2, 1 at work and 1 at home) that I shoot with all the time. I break with either a light Sly $200 or a heavy Varney $450. I own $3000-$4000+ cues, but they just can't compete with any of my Scruggs. And when they are back in my hands (I'm in Korea and can't have some of them here due to ivory) there will be a monster fire sale!

Greg
