I had a fun time at the IPT

Joe...

I got a question for you... From how everyone talks about you, I am guessing you are a celebrity of some stature in the main stream. I was wondering.. How often do you meet pool players who have no idea who you are?

I must admit, I have been over in Iraq for two years now, so I have an excuse for not knowing, but you know pool players tend to live in the pool hall.

Do you ever run into any circumstances where you are just hanging out with a few regular local players, just talking about normal stuff, and then some "civilian" comes up asking for your autograph, and then the pool players are like "WTF??"

Also... You commentated a match and none of the hardcore pool players on here said you sucked....So I'll take the 6 and the breaks, sir... :D

I liked the no holds barred comment abut the IPT cloth. I was surprised they didn't immediately cut to a commercial. Great job Joe. Only thing missing was having Mike eat a cockroach.

the only thing that would make that picture cooler would be if you had Grady in an armbar

By the look on Grady's face it looks like Joe just let him OUT OF an armbar! Good post Joe......

Deno Andrews from the IPT had been telling me that Mike had been playing really well lately. He ran 200 balls last week, and he had been practicing a lot. I wasn't surprised, but John was certainly the favorite coming in.
It would be really nice to see Mike competing again. I hope he continues to do well.

Joe I know you work behind a mic for a living and are very good at what you do, your were GREAT last night, man you stole the show from Mike and thats hard to do, I did once on the phone, funny story I'll tell you sometime. When pool is huge with million dollar purses and you and I look like Grady you should become a full time pool announcer, ,

take care brother,

eric

oh yeah thanks for pubically saying the nap cloth sucks

lol, you would have had to be in Iraq for about 10 years to not know who Joe Rogan is. Have you ever seen Fear Factor? More recently surely you know about the big mixed martial arts boom. If you get a chance google his name and watch some of his stand up also.

Meeting Joe

It was great getting to meet you, Joe. I look forward to getting together with you for a practice session in the near future. Also, if the IPT uses again, I'd love to work in the booth with you. I've heard that you are a 70 or 80 ball runner so I better not give you too many shots.
I've met and been around many celebrities in my life and didn't care for many of them but you are so down to earth, fun to be around, and pool knowledgeable that it was a sheer pleasure to get to meet you. We'll look forward to the time you pop into "Grady's".
If you ever do a Senior Fear Factor, give me a call. LOL

My favorite is the Fear Factor he did on Chappelles show

I'm a big fan of Joe's comedy. Without a doubt, the UFC wouldn't be as exciting to watch w/out Joe's commentary. I'll never forget when he said a fighter "OMG!! It looks like he got hit in the face with an axe." I forget who the fighter was, but I was in the middle of gulping a bottle of beer when he said it and I spewed it all over my hardwood floor laughing so hard.

In regards to Fear Factor, I went to China for a little bit and got used to eating grubs, grasshoppers, cicadas, scorpions and fish heads. When I came home, I felt I was a 1 to 5 favorite to win on that show. I respected Joe on that show when he took a live cricket and stuffed it in his mouth and chomped it down like a pro.

Joe, are there any UFC fighters who play pool well? Maybe the next TAR all-around can include something physical? I'd pay to watch that!

Dave

PS.... Why doesn't Zuffa do something with pool and turn pool into something UFC-like (w/out the fighting). Obviously, they're experts on delivering entertaining events and grew the UFC from literally NOTHING to what it is today. Why not do a tour?

Perhaps Joe kicking that one dudes face in,what was his name who wanted to play Schmidt and then have cage or boxing match.I think it was Quintan Hann,Joe can certainly take this guy out so the only thing he needs to do is train some 8 ball. :D

Marvin Eastman

Vitor Belfor opened him up with an elbow I think. One of the most surreal things in the world: Eastman just standing there this huge open wound on his melon. I thought I saw brain.

I was dying when Joe dropped the Axe comment. Classic.

What REALLY made it funny was that it REALLY DID look like someone hit him on the head with a hatchet.

Vitor is vicious! You never see him anymore though, shame.

Joe you have run 70 balls in 14.1?

Based on his nine ball game which i have seen firsthand, If he now plays straight pool regularly I would guess that his high run is 60-90.

Why am i guessing ? No one asked me. Bored again is my only excuse.

Joe said on the stream his high run was 68. Pretty strong.

The problem with me claiming that is that it was a long time ago.
I really haven't played straight pool more than once or twice in the last 10 years. I've just always loved 9 ball and 10 ball.
Still, I would love to run 100 some day just to say I did it :)

?shut Up You Idiots, There?s A Great Pool Match Going On!!!!?

Here's an email I sent to the IPT:

Loved watching the matches, but half way thru the Eight Ball, Mike Sigel was drawn into a long winded side conversation by the guest ?celebrity? (whom I never heard of) on cloth, cue shafts, and whether Mike will be in the Cue maker?s hall of fame.

Incredibly, 2 whole racks went by without any notice of the CREATIVE shots being played!!!! I opened my window and joined the chorus of thousands of viewers around the world shouting ?SHUT UP YOU IDIOTS, THERE?S A GREAT POOL MATCH GOING ON!!!!? I have truly never been so angry and frustrated while watching sports on TV. Finally they noticed the play for a rack or two. But then, Mike left the booth to go outside and light up a natural cure and John Schmidt sat down. The guest celebrity asked him the same ?burning? questions causing another whole rack to be ignored!!!

I?m not opposed to these discussions as long as they are between racks or matches. And guest commentators cannot be faulted too much because what do they know about play by play announcing? But the main play by ply guy dropped the ball by not stopping the side conversations and getting everyone focused on the action.

While I?m at it, here are a few more observations on the comedy of errors:

1. No mechanical bridge on hand.
2. Telestrator that either doesn?t work or is beyond the meager skills of your commentators.
3. Video director who cannot synch his camera selection with commentator?s attempt to telestrate.
4. Continued whining by Mike about how poor his view of the action is. At home we can see the angles better than he can.
5. Mike becomes a little too fixated on what he would do, missing notice of alternate creative strategies by the players even after they worked.
6. Dead screen between matches with no indication to viewers about how long to wait or what to do next. (Although a live microphone did transmit some comments unintended for broadcast).
7. Several mentions of Simonis cloth by Grady, the ?celebrity?, and John Schmidt which I?m sure did not sit well with your Gorina sponsor.
8. At least your sideline interviewer was more tastefully dressed this time. (Last time she shoved her boobs in a startled Austin Murphy?s fourteen year old face in the prematch interview. No wonder the poor kid couldn?t play his best.) But having no knowledge of the game, her questions are canned and no insight from player interaction can be gained. It?s not her fault. Maybe you need to hire Jeanette Lee if you insist on glamour and gender diversity.
9. Several mentions about how the matches are ?winner take all?, but apparently nobody knows or is allowed to say how much money is at stake. How silly is that?

Maybe with Kevin watching this match online from Boston, he got a taste of what the rest of us see. Again Thanks for the great matches.

I want to thank everyone for all the kind words on the forum, and in emails that I've received. Last night was a really fun time sitting in the booth for an hour or so.
I had only done pool commentary once before, and that was way back in 1995 or 96 I believe. It was at one of CJ Willey's events in LA, and I got to do a little commentary with Tony Annigoni.

I had a good time doing it last night, and it was fun working with Mike Sigel. I know he got on a lot of people's nerves, and Sigel says a lot of egotistical stuff, but to me it's mostly a part of his shtick. He said most of it with a big smile on his face. He has a huge ego, which is what made him such a great player in his day, and now he enjoys bragging. It didn't bother me, in fact I actually enjoyed it. Maybe that's because I was there, and because I have a pretty high tolerance for people like that.

Grady's commentary was and always is excellent.
It was great to finally meet him after all the years I've listened to his commentary on Accu Stats. We even made plans to get together and practice a little the next time he comes to LA which I look forward to very much.
Congrats to Tony Robles! He's a great player, and a really nice guy. I've known Tony for over 15 years now, and he's one of the nicest guys in the game and a credit to his profession.

That was pretty cool of you Joe. They totally put you in a tight spot there, and you handled it great!

Stop lying about how bad you play though :grin-square:

When we gonna spar (pool only) at HB?

I think Mike has an ego,Grady is just Grady and is set in his ways and I mean this in a good way,and Joe is funny, its a good mix of character which makes it fun and you guys are obviously talking about it.As for Rebecca, she does good with what she does and looks damn good doing it,she is by far the hottest interviewer pool has had! :grin-square:
