After seeing the thread about getting a new table, it occoured to me, I have had a GC 3,4,5 so far the 4 was the best. I'm pissed at the 5 because it never stays level and some of the rolls come and go, and it has a few that are there no matter what. I love the table but cant fade the rolls. I have a Diamond-I'm happy with that table. But I like to try everything in pool and I never had one of these, I have been told they are the best:

I dont like the bags for drop pockets, but I bet this table has better cut slate than the GC does and it 30MM thick about 1.2" sitting on a steel frame, how can that be bad? unless you live at the beach.....Then I might not want a pool table anyways.

I think new room in Fargo has a few of them, if anyone knows anything about them email me at EP90210@hotmail.com

I like new things in pool, i enjoy trying everything and I havent tried one of these!!!

I like the flush pockets, wonder how loud it is with a steel frame?

Eric,

The table was used at the 2006 World Straight Pool Championships so I'm sure you know a bunch of guys that have opinions from using it in a major competition. I have the DVD set of that event and they all did seem to have only good comments about it (of course, it was a sponsor).

But I have to say from watching all 5 DVD's the table did seem to play real well as far as how true it rolled, how the cushions played, and how the pockets reacted to shots. Let me know if you want the DVD's. I can bring them with me in May and give them to you at the 10 ball event.

there is one in jackson tn at a place called breakers.....Good table..love the way it plays....but I don't like the plastic pocket covers....still like the gc and diamond more.

Fatboy, yes fargo does have them. I will take them over a diamond anyday of the week. The play way more natural than lively like the diamonds. Come bang some racks at fargo but I want the breaks and the 7, lol. Call me if you want more thoughts on them. I hate typing.....

I wonder if Gabriels has ever designed an original table?

This table is a mashed up copy of Diamond, Lehmacher and Kim Steel. Not to say that it doesn't play well but the flush pockets were a Diamond innovation, the rails and the 15 ball drop pockets are from Lehmacher and the steel frame is from Kim Steel.

Although steel frame tables have been around for a long time.

I can say this about Kim Steel tables - they were quiet and they stayed level. One place we played in Germany had one table where one corner had about an INCH of air under one of the legs. No joke, the table was standing on three legs and it played perfect.

I loved mine and wish I still had it. I also LOVED my Lehmacher table and wish I still had it. Marc Lehmacher invented the bag pocket and he also invented the flush corner where the whole corner was flush with the rails - i.e. one assembly, not a separate pocket and corner.

Hi Eric,

It is my understanding the Gabriels table you're interested in is a virtual copy of a Diamond "Pro" table with modifications. The slate is thicker and the chassis stronger. Hippo's Billiards in Utica, NY replaced their Gold Crowns with these tables. One of my favorite places to play. Last I heard, the guys at Diamond are the importers for Gabriels products and Gabriels imports Diamond to Europe. Might be wrong on that though. Greg Sullivan and Mark Griffin both post here so better information is available from them.

Thats my understanding. And I believe Gabriel is the standard, not a copy. Best table made from everything I've heard.

Well it may be that Diamond and Gabriels have some sort of business together but I can assure you that Gabriels COPIED Lehmacher's designs and Diamond's designs long ago.

Not to say that Gabriels tables aren't good. They are. But they have been quite liberal in using the innovations of others in their pool table construction.

I could be wrong of course but I did live in Germany for 10 years from 1989-1999 and saw all this happen in front of me. Marc Lehmacher was one of my associates and his firm was about 10 minutes away from mine.

As is the case in virtually all manufacturing it seems.

a couple years ago I looked into buying a gabriel, yes diamond is there distributor in the states.
It is costly to get one over here brand new, but I know you don,t worry about that kind of thing anyway, Fatboy

If you replace one of your current tables I have a room ready for it . LOL
Hope all is well, with you sir.

diamond was their USA 3C table distributer until about a year ago. Diamond Isnt selling any of their pool tables far as I know b/c its very close to what they manufactor, I will call Greg and Mark and find out the real story.

I'm just sick of tables not staying level, the concrete floor my box is sitting on is 24" deep, yes 24"-thats a different topic. But I cant keep a GC5 level, The first yr I had a diamond it needed to be adjusted twicw-the air is dry here and when the frame dries out the table will move a bit.

They need to build steel block cushions like the snooker tables-that table would be he nutsm with 60mm slate. That would be a solid box if there ever was one. I like to over build things.

Uncle Waldo's in Daytona Beach has some Gabrials, I played on 1 on Friday, thay play good as I can tell, a lot like a Diamond and very nice to look at. I can't really say one plays better then the other, was only on it an couple of hours. I have a GCIII, no problem with keeping it level here in Florida. Tom

They used to weld the tables in Holland.
Created shipping and installation difficulties.
Now they come in pieces and are bolted together on site.

Fatboy raises something I have wondered about.
Top snooker tables have steel block cushions.

Why aren't they used on pool tables?
Presumably their virtues would be even more relevant on a pool table with the heavier balls.

Hey Eric, did you ever shoot on a Connelly table with the 2" slate (I'm sure you probably have)? I did once, and had a very high opinion of that table. If the pockets corners would have been level with the rails, it would have been my dream table!!!

Never shot on a Gabriel.

Eric,
I have played on of these Gabriels last year in Lisbon (Portugal) and it plays almost exactly like a Diamond. I would say that it is a more expensive Diamond copy with a different look.
Diamond is still the best table out there, period IMHO.

Gabrials are solid as a rock. Play very good too. The Conte's who have been in the brunswick business for generations decided years ago to convert their room to these when they got uphappy with b'wicks lack of progession in their spec's. I'm sure you knew Al Conte the great table mechanic. His grandson now operates Hippo's House of Billiards in Utica NY. Call him for more info @ 315-768-0218. Ask for Victor Conte Jr.
