I want to clear something up!

I've noticed Baby's arm has been saying I'm a no good whatever-whatever , this is the condensed version of what happened: A few guys came in Breakers in Mobile Alabama now most people knew that was a good action spot with a couple of soft locals to try to play , nothing wrong with that they came in and Bruce Berrong was trying to play people and when I asked him to play he said no. Well they were mad because now people knew he could play because I only offered him the last two . You see they drove all the way fron Georgia and didn't get to rob any one so they were mad as hell at me. Two days later my backer Ricky Bird called me and said that someone named baby's arm was saying I was trying to dump to them. Well anyway I know Bruce didn't write this so I am not accusing him of anything he is a good player and a good guy and I think baby's arm is not a bad guy either, I just wish he would cut me a little slack because what he is saying is not true. Now I understand a lot of people are going to not like me throughout life but can it at least be for something that I have actually done wrong. P.S. I will still play Bruce, also I will take two aside playing baby's arm golf because I am not as good at golf as I am pool, just wish I was LOL.

JS,
Just a note of support. There is always a certain portion of members who are in favor of disguising identities and proficiencies to dupe unwitting pool players; figuring that the marks enter into it willingly (albeit unknowingly) and therefore deserve their ultimate fate.

I will tell you that there is also a portion (a much larger portion in my opinion) who believe that such behavior is unethical, and a drawback to advancement of the game. While I'm not advocating running around knocking everyone, I do believe honesty is the best policy. You are as much entitled to action as anyone; there is certainly no dishonor in offering weight trying to get a match. If they just wanted to rob the locals, then you have probably just made a whole bunch more fans.

P.S. - I was the guy in the audience keeping unofficial score during the Pagulayan-Schmidt straight pool epic 2 years ago at Derby City. STILL the best pool match I've ever seen. If you are looking for any very cheap straight pool action, I'm in. If you need a ball racker or score keeper or referee for a real match, I'll offer my services for free. Have you guys ever played money matches with "all ball" fouls; now that would be tense?

Good luck at DCC this year.

John, your actions were perfectly reasonable. You were as entitled as anyone else in that room to try to solicit action.

It is simple, you asked first, end of story. If they didn't want you involved, they should have waved you off before you even approached them. Sharking is for wussies!

BTW, Good Luck in the IPT!

if a Pool Room Traveler says it then it's right.....

I want to clear something up.

May I inject a quick story: Pool Hustler ( I will not name) goes to Oakland Raiders football game in Oakland and sits next to a pool player. Conversation
starts off friendly and quickly goes to making a pool game after the football game...

Hustler meets "sucker" at local pool room later the same day and lays down until money is right. Hustler goes to "A" game and sucker loses big.

Hustler gets as far as parking lot when met by sucker and friends (All gang members) Hustler gets curb stomped resulting in two broken legs and two broken arms. (Classic gang stomping at knees and elbows by holding Hustler on his back over curb and then jumping up and down on his limbs)

Hustler gets away with his life and after many months of painful rehab and therapy decides upon revenge. Hustler and cronies arm themselves with automatic pistols and return to the scene of action (Downtown Oakland). Hustler and three friends encounter more than they bargained for... Three killed: Hustler and one cronie dead along with one gang member.

Morale of the story: What goes around comes around!

PS: Hustler's girlfriend paid off undertaker with Hustler's cue collection. Find that undertaker and you may find yourself dealing for some nice cues!

I saw that match also, great performance and nice run of 147 or something.

John you are already a great player with a reputation and I woudn't worry about comments like that.

Yeah.. cool that you come on here and stick up for yourself. You are a stand up guy, and one that I would trust with whole bankroll laying around if I was rooming with ya. Even though it's in your blood, I hope you make enough on the IPT so that you don't have to gamble your last barrel when you are up against it anymore.

Baz-man,
We may not have seen the same match (I believe they played on more than one occasion). The match I refer to was Friday midnight to 5:30 A.M.; final score Pag = 300, Schmidt 298. High run JS = 112 (Pag's high run was around 80, I could look it up if your interested). If I could ever interview them, I would love to write an article on the match (I have extensive notes).

Yeah it was the same match, I didn't remeber the high run exacly. It has a dramatic end when John needed 2 balls to win and miss it. Alex than came back with final run of 40 something and won. I was actually playing next to them with other guy.

Cross Side Larry:

For 14 years I lived in the Berkeley-Oakland area and I'd never enter Oakland unarmed. It's home to the Black Panthers and all sorts of bad asses and I was assaulted there 3 times within one year. No wonder it had trouble attracting business until Mayor Jerry Brown came to town.

John Schmidt, you're an asset to the sport, and EVERYBODY enjoys watching you compete, whether it be in a tournament or in a game of stakes. You always seem to carry yourself in a professional manner at any event I have attended. Good luck to you on the upcoming tournament trail.

John,
I've only met you a couple of times and I don't doubt that you are a decent guy, but the Mobile incident went nothing like you described. Now, before stating this, I will say that John never personally said anything to me and I have never said that he did. His friend, the name of which I don't know, but someone told me "Shane" took me personally outside along with a couple of my friends and told us that they would like to play for $17,000 giving Bruce the 8 using John's backers money and dump to us. Afterwards we were to split the money. We told Bruce this and of course he said no. Now, having said that, I want to reitterate that John never came outside. However, he knows because he approached me in Athens that this did happen because there were 5 other witnesses that were there and saw it. For the record, I never said John was a no good, whatever. I only said that Derek Leonard was a piece of shit. Also, I will give you two a side for whatever you can stack up.

hey babys arm

now lets just say for arguments sake that what your saying is true because it could be because shane was a guy who i considered a friend although i had beaten him out of a few hundred playing 1-hole giving him like 10-3 so you can understand he did not know much about pool but i would bet my life he understood the ramifications of telling someone i would dump.now again youwant people to believe that i would send someone outside to tell a bunch of strangers that i want to dump someone for 17 grand if i was stupid enough to actually say something like that it sure would not be to five people that i have just met.and another thing you say you have not said bad things about me but you have called me a trecherous clown and someone that would dump and yes you did basically say you would kick my ass when i confronted you in athens so i figure you are mad at me about something i just hope we can let it all go..one more thing i will take a lie detecter test for 1000 and when i pass which i will i will then take two aside at tanglewood cc in my home town of milton and play you golf for 1000 the reason i want to play there is thats one of the few courses i can break 85

Where the heck are your manners? Didn't your mom teach you any? :D

Actually the first thing I thought of is that it looks like something Tony T-Rex Chohan would wear. He likes white suits... the only thing Gabe is missing is a special hat to top it off. Jennie, thanks for posting the pic.. It's always enjoyable to see these guys dressed up, and you're right..John has a great smile. I've always liked his smile. I notice peoples smiles and I have to say that John & Rodney are dead even...both have nice big smiles.

Merry Christmas everyone. ;)

Larry, that is about the best pool story I have read.
Anyone thinking they can "steal" money at pool had better take note of this.
Why lie, if you are good just say so up front and be honest about it.
There are pleanty of takers for anyone that walks into a poolroom and says "I can beat anyone here". They will line up to prove you wrong. Specially if you carry a custom two piece Budwiser Cue.
