I respectfully take a different opinion.
To suggest John should strike Earl's name from his post sounds at first like a good thing to do; Earl is a champion who deserves respect for past achievement, and John needs to demonstrate a higher moral standard if his claim is to have any merit at all.
What gets me is where the truth fits in here. Earl has acted badly toward John. I have whitnessed it myself. I even kept a cloth John cleaned the balls with at the US Open that Earl pitch a fit about (after missing) saying that John had juiced the balls with something that made them roll wrong for Earl. John spoke to Earl respectfully, showed him the clean towell, then beat him straight up.
I don't like bickering on AZ. I particularly don't like members offending champion players with their inflamitory opinions in this open forum, but, having seen Earl's behavior toward John first hand, and having seen plenty of Earl antics in Mosconi Cup video, I gotta speak up.
I prefer truth over political correctness.
I prefer talent over antics that generate ratings.
I prefer to feel proud of the American Mosconi team members.
I would rather see John Schmidt play than Earl, specifically.
I know this isn't about a match up but I'd put my cash on The Pearl all day every day....he's been known to BBQ a young gun or two...still a very fierce money player, last I checked there aren't too many guys that go looking for that action! Just sayin Vette.
There are ALOT of better players to represent the U.S. than Earl,ALOT.Kudo's to you John, for standing up for yourself and telling it like it is.The MC is a team event and I think ES should learn there is no "I" in team.
I say "to hell with puttin' people in the seats" and "to hell with who is the most entertaining player to watch". The Mosconi Cup team and it's captain should only be concerned with WINNING!!! Why don't they just poll the 100 best players in America (according to the power rankings) and pick the best players from the TOP of that list:shrug: ??? All this political BS is not good for the American team.

It doesn't matter what I think of either of you. I'm thinking about this from a "get the win" and a "get the audience" perspective.
If I had any power or say over the team members (I totally don't), I would make sure that both of you were on the team. With Archer.
Get the Win: Having two guys who hate each other on the same team strongly heightens the competition and the desire- need- to win because you're no longer playing to beat the other team, you're playing to do miles better than your teammate.
Get the Audience: Archer needs to be there for the smooth public presence and the great spokesmanship. He's calm, diplomatic, well spoken, and knows that cameras are always on. He's the leader and the final say. But the audience wants to see the intense competition, the fierce fighting, and even the grandstanding and pouting, too. Oh- and the win. : )

they dont add earl onto the team for his attitude they always have him because he delivers results and thats what counts, and seems to me lately earl has been playing some pretty damn good pool winning at least a few tournaments that i have seen and probly more no offense to you john im not knocking your play or your view of his attitude im just saying earl delivers results every time and thats what counts
oh and one more thing get archer back as the captain, sure is funny how when he was taken off as captain and replaced by varner was it?? they lost their ass that was stupid to replace him
did I sleep through the last couple of years? What tourneys has Earl won lately?

Although Earl has had some bad matches I don't think that anyone can say that Earl was truly the weakest player on any cup team he has been on. There is really only one question in my mind about Earl, does he disrupt the rest of the team enough that he harms their play? If he does, he needs to go. It is a team event. However, unless he does he needs to stay and if John is to play it should be at the expense of a weaker member of the team. Earl is almost worth keeping as long as Rodney Morris is on the team. Earl and Rodney are awesome pairs players. Only pair I can recall working better together is Jeanette and George Breedlove.

In the last 6+ years Earl has won a couple of Jacoby Tour events and the one pocket division of the Carolina Open in 2007. The last semi-major tourney he won was the Viking Tour National in 2003. The last major tourney he won was in 2002! How can anyone say he deserves to be on the team by playing ability?

im not going to go on forever but earl at one time i looked up too.hell i learned how to play watching him on accustats.
that being said im not badmouthing earl so i have a better chance to make team.
the things he says and does behind the scenes that affects the team is unreal and thats the way it is.
earl treats the team like crap,me like crap,the other team like crap,the refs,fans and himself like crap. furthermore to the guy who said something about earl playing me.
hes more than welcome to play a tar match and since earls under the illusion that he plays great 1hole and 14.1 he can get weight at those games.anyway earl used to be my hero but i have no respect for him anymore and im honest enough to say it.also would and have said to his face.
anybody that thinks he helps us win needs to be a fly on the wall in the players lounge ,trust me.
anyway enough earl bashing i want to make the team ,i might be boring but ill treat people with respect and do my best to help the team.
