I knew Eric years ago when he was a scuffler hanging around tournaments and action rooms. He used to run with John Morton, aka Rude Dog on here. He came to several tournaments I worked on and never caused any problems that I remember (and I would).
Eric dropped out of the pool scene for a number of years and only resurfaced after Rude Dog passed away. He is basically the same pool scuff, only in a different position in life now. His various business interests occupy much of his time, and in his spare time he choses to hang out with us here.
Yes, he is a character! And pool has a way of attracting some interesting people to its mix. Fatboy is unique and his perspective on things is unique as well. He is doing things his way, the way that feels right to him. Just like Fats, some people will enjoy what he does and some won't. He will be commended and he will be criticized. That goes with the territory when you put yourself out there.
I for one, am glad to have him around. I have found him to be an honorable man, quite intelligent and rather knowledgeable on a wide range of subjects. And we don't always agree on things. Hey, I told him to keep betting on Shane! We can, and do have lively discussions from time to time. He thinks I'm a little nuts for buying old cars that are in need of repairs. And he has a few foibles of his own. But we respect each other and that's what friendships are based on.
Regardless of what Fatboy says on here, his actions do speak louder than his words. He has been extremely generous already to several people in this industry who needed some help. That is the yardstick I measure him by. What he does, not just what he says. Eric would like to have a positive impact on professional pool and he is actively looking for the best way to do that. I can't fault him for that.
Sure, he has an ego. Everyone does! And if he wants to be the front man for something new and exciting in pool, I say GO FOR IT! It sure beats sitting on the sidelines being a critic.
