This is from an email from the IPT website:

The International Pool Tour announces the IPT Pro-Am Tournament. Sixteen of the best players in the world will compete with an open field of players in a new and unique format November 8-9, 2008.


The Pro-Am Tournament is open to any competitor who places in the top six of a qualification tournament. There are sixteen qualifier events- each corresponds with a top professional player. The top six finishers in each qualifier get teamed up with their pro for the main event. Although players compete as individuals, if they or anyone on their team wins the main event, they each win $6,000; the actual individual winner of the tournament wins $8,000. The total prize purse is $50,000.


Qualification events will be held throughout Chicagoland starting September 13th. The full schedule of qualification events is available online at www.internationalpooltour.com.


Entry fees are $85 in person, which includes a $5 greens fee for the host room. Members of the military, female players, children, anyone presenting their league membership card, or any online entrants pay only $75.

Who else thinks this may be a recipe for disaster? I wouldn't pay a dime to them unless all funds were escrowed in advance.
 
WHAT ABOUT ALL THE PEOPLE WHO PUT UP $$$$ FOR THE QUALIFIERS!?!? HOW CAN THEY PAY OUT $50K AND STILL HAVE WHO KNOWS HOW MANY PEOPLE LEFT HIGH/DRY FROM THE IPT TOUR Q's!?!?!?!?
 
My personal opinion is that they need to come out and have a real event, not another series of qualifiers. Pick the players however you want, but have an actual event where prize money is paid out. Until then, another series of qualifiers, no matter how inexpensive compared to their previous qualifiers, lacks credibility.

My personal opinion is that KT needs to crawl in a hole and save the billiards community another devastating blow that will once again do more harm than good.
 
Who picked the 16 best player in the world? Maybe Mikey. I could find at least 8 better players to replace the ones that were picked. Let's face it...the top 16 KT&MS pets that are picked. Johnnyt

It's all about marketing Johnny. If it was competition, he would have brought back the top 16 from IPT Season 1. The players he picked are all top-notch. There are possibly 2 dubious picks and obviously many deserving players not included, but at least they have a free roll ... if the IPT pays out this time.

As soon as I received this email from the IPT I emailed them asking if they are expecting to finish returning the qualifier money. It's been a while since I received some of it.
I doubt that I will get a response.
 
Instead of having so many qualifiers why don't they let the ones that paid or won qualifiers already play? Some would I'm sure. Johnnyt

There is another existing thread on this subject already running with 23 replies to date, most of them fairly positive about the event. If those people don't feel the need to repeat all over again what they've already posted in the other thread you may get a distorted picture of overall opinion. This info is simply given since you appear to be interested in gauging opinion.

I'm not endorsing the event or decrying it, just giving you that info:smile:

Yes I agree some what with
it's all about marketing. There are very few companies that have any truth in marketing. Marketing today is companies seeing who can tell the biggest lies W/O getting in trouble. Go too far? No problem at all. Hire the best liar/lawyer, because that's what they are. They spend 50% of their time in law school learning how to do it with a straight face, and not pissing the judge off too much.

I'm so sick of all the fine print, out and out lies, distractions on screen while they (pharmacy companies for one) mumble the negatives (that by law they have to tell you) at 1000 mph while two couples BBQ on a beach. You know, the unimportant stuff like if you take this pill with warm lemon aid you'll bleed to death in an hour. Don't even get me started. I say shoot them all but six and save the rest for kicks. let me get this straight:

you go to these qualifiers in IL and WI,pay the travel,hotel,entry fee expenses, and then if you qualify for the main event,but neither you,the pro on your team,or the other 5 guys win the tournament you go back home empty?

Is this how it is?
 
Once again Trudough and the IPT is trying to inch their way back into the mainstream pool world. This looks like another attempt to hold multiple qualifiers as a money making scheme. It worked pretty well last time. :wink:
And the grand prize money is 50K. Big deal!

Why am I just not interested in any of this? When a company (the IPT) put on a three million dollar tournament and stiffed the players, it's pretty hard to get too worked up about a new promise of $50,000. The guy's got balls. :grin-square:

I agree with you. However it has been proven that the IPT gets most of it's ideas from this forum's brain trust. So perhaps they are listening to the collected wisdom from here which said that the players would all show up for a lot less.

I wish he would shove em so far that every time he brushed his teeth, they would wink at him.
 
Well at least the image of pool can't get much worse. Maybe someone will even decide it's time to straighten things out. Or the publicity will get so bad that HBO will buy the rights and cast it as an after-dark comedrama.
 
I get a completely different gut feeling from that being expressed in here as regards Trudeau.

I think the nature and scale of this event smacks of Trudeau himself having lost interest in pool as a project long ago. This event looks to me to be entirely consistent with Trudeau having got the
"pool people" previously involved together and having told them something along the lines of.......

"I'm through with IPT until somebody shows me it can make money without giving me more headaches. If you guys think you can restore credibilty and take it to a position where it makes money go ahead and use the company name. Do whatever you think will work but don't ask me to underwrite it. Show me progress towards making money without the grief which seems permanently attached to pool and I'll look at it again"

......could be wrong and I am definitely a bit twisted and cynical, but don't dismiss the notion without thinking about it :smile:

None of the above comments in themselves makes this a bad event.
 
I wont feel sorry for any who get sucked into this again. Why would anybody think it will be on the up and up this time?

Has the IPT debt to all the players from the first go around been settled?
