Jay and Jerry are EXCELLENT!
I am also a big fan of Jim Wych, who is also a poster on AZ Billiards on a very small scale. An awesome guy too, if it wasnt for him, I wouldnt be the horrible player I am now. I would be a horrible NON-player.

Informed and insightful. Usually thinking along same lines as player
when it comes to pattern or safety play. (OK-who figures Shane is going forward 4 rails thru traffic for shape?)
I like Jay's reality based comments about the lion's share of rolls going to USA on day 1. That usually turns around-and did-but too late for Europe. USA out-played em and out-spirited em.

Agreed. This Mosconi featured my 3 favorite commentators. We were spoiled ;D
And yes, Wych is a terrific guy. I owe much of my small time movie success to him. He gave me the support that I needed when I was first getting started.

All three did a good job. It's hard to keep it interesting when most of the viewers are hard core pool players. Not much they haven't seen or heard before. The Mosconi Cup was so fast paced that Jay didn't have time to thraw a few road stories in this time...or I missed them. Johnnyt

Seriously though, they were well in tune with every moment and captured not only the strategy but the flow and emotion as well. With the growth in live streaming I trust other burgeoning commentators took good notes.

Ever since Galveston, I am a big fan of Jay's Commentary.
Great job gentlemen! The camera crew was also great! In fact, the entire production was first class.

Remember that pathetic Kevin guy that did some commentary for the WPBA back in the "pour the Boar" days? Geez... Which was hokier... At least the gin company brought some bucks. Kevin couldn't find the corner pocket with a guide dog & a flashlight.

They were great! I always like to hear Jay's commentary - he's smooth!
There was one thing they missed (so did I and everybody else). In the last match with Ralf, Ralf left Shane nearly hooked but with thin cut shot on a 3 ball to a corner. If Shane took the cut, he would have let the cueball loose - a wild shot. Instead, he played a hair thin cut on the 3 and a billiard into the 7 ball, which was sitting by the side pocket. He pocketed the seven and played shape to make the 3 next.
That showed above human cue ball control - a great shot!

Nice post that got me to thinking about something. All of us real pool fans sometimes lament the state of the game. But when it comes to who comments on our great sport, well, we're really spoiled!
Jay & Jerry did a great job, as per usual. But add them to some of the other great people who work the commentary side....Grady, Billy, Freddy,
Hopkins, Varner, Hall. These are some real talented people. And I'd like to give another sincere plug to JoeyA, as he's on a real good roll in HIS commentator duties as well.
Again, kudos to Jay & Jerry. For ALWAYS doing a first class, professional job.

He's a GIANT in pooldom, that's for sure. He is the 2006 U.S. Open 9 Ball Champion, the 2009 DCC 1Pocket Champion, the 2003 14.1 Champion and one of the dominant professional players active today. And he is one of the nicest and classiest men I have ever spent time with. Lunch and a little road trip this past Saturday made for one of the best times I've had.
As for that photo....He walloped me but good when I mentioned that my 14.1 high run (41) is just slightly more than my pants size (38 pushing realllll hard towards 40!)
Really, I can't say enough good things about John Schmidt. He's a perfect gentleman who I would still enjoy friendship with even if it never involved anything related to pool. He's that good a guy.

:slap:Hey, great to hear you got out and about Terry. And to do so and spend time with John had to be some life memory excitement you've been long overdue.
John can put some controversial type down, but everything I've seen from him has always been passionate and forthright. Golf, anything with a motor on it, pool, etc, etc. I could hang with that guy anytime, and I've never even seen a goat.
I liked al three of them, and I even liked listening to Andy Goldstein also, even though he miscalled quite a few shots.

Johnny, the overwhelming majority of people watching the Mosconi Cup are NOT hard core pool players. It's not a TAR match with 200 viewers, it's broadcasted live at one of Europe's biggest sportschannels, and I think a delayed version is sent in both Asia and America.

The stream commentary was good by just about everyone, but I have to say Jay was really on it.
As I've noticed in previous M Cups, the camera work and overall production is a cut above every other telecast. It makes the ESPN and Fox stuff (WPBA etc.) like really bare bones. The event comes off looking like a big budget event compared to the other stuff.
