Have you ever been to a pool tournament where all matches were played on the same two tables???

Your whole premise is silly.

Regards,
Jim

Come to think of it, many matches in all three divisions were played on the TV table. Should we be complaining about the unfair advantage the players had who played on this table? It definitely played differently then the other tournament tables. But I didn't hear anyone complaining about playing there. Did you?

Adolf?

lol! I'll have you know, if it weren't for my "hopping" ability, I wouldn't be here today. It saved me 3 months ago when I almost stepped on a very large fer-de-lance in Bolivia! I was "usless" at the time, so I would be usless permanently if not for my hopfulness.

Was the fer-de-lance Adolf?

These 3 guys woke up the next day and they all have great dreams last night!. The guy on the left said, "I had a dream that a beautiful girl gave me a great hand job last night! The guy on the right replied, "Weird! I had the same dream as yours! The guy in the middle butted in, "Why was I the only one who had a different dream last night?" he said. "But my dream was great nonetheless, I dreamt I was in Aspen skiing!"

LMAO. Johnnyt

Jay, you don't owe this guy any more of your time. Your reputation and credibility speak for itself.

So many players wanted a chance at it, that we had to make a deadline for entries. I announced early in the evening on the final day that we would accept no more entries after Midnite. And that is what we did. All who paid got a chance at it, and that is why it lasted until 7 AM.

The rules of the game were never changed at any time. That is a flat lie!

I did not want to move the game to another room, but I had no choice. I would have preferred that all attempts be made on the same two tables, but unfortunately, that was not the case. These were identical Diamond Pro tables. Only the conditions were different.

I am more than a little confused by nfty9er comments here. On the one hand he says he has no problem with me and the One Pocket Challenge. He thinks it was great. Then at the end of his post, he states that I changed the rules and the table, and goes on to say that this shit only happens in Pool. This is what I call talking out of both sides of your mouth.

He goes on to say that my version of what happened is exaggerated. Okay how so?

Hmmmmm, I don't know. All their hands look frozen in the 'ski pole' postion.... imo
Doug
( I have NEVER skied.................but I've dreamt of skiing.... imo ) :)

*Come to think about it, one night I dreamed about Bob Jewett...... TOO.

The DCC has had issues in the past over time restraints & the multitude of players in the events. I remember talking to Matlock not too happy that Efren & Corey got a bye in the late rounds of the 9 ball because they were finishing up the 1-pocket finals. Cost David the all-around title that year.

Sometimes things happen & from what Jay & others that were there, Jay did everything in his power to ensure that all players got a fair shake. Another two sided point to 9ers complaint is the time extension of the challenge. Seems to me, if the time was extended, then it was done so in order for all players wanting a chance to try on the TV table. Makes sense to me.

Next year, I think that sharking allowed and known to be an 'obstacle' in the event would make it even more enjoyable. $50 entry fee & lets have some real fun.

This could be compared to the Home Run Derby at the All Star game. (wait to see what the NHL has in store for their game this year)

Watchez......as a follow up to your post and hopefully as an objective observer of the content of this thread would just say that unless I'm misreading what Jay wrote the "finishing time" is also a complete red herring as far as the complaint goes, because there wasn't actually any "finishing time" deadline as such.

By my reading of Jay's explanation there was only ever one deadline (midnight) by which time all "$50 attempts" had to be booked and paid for. According to Jay that deadline never changed and nobody was allowed to book any new attempts after midnight. So there was no question of any "extending".

It is therefore irrelevant whether the last booked and paid for attempt was actually played at midnight or 2am or 7am. If enough people had booked and paid for attempts before midnight it could theoretically have even gone on way beyond 7am as the actual "finishing time" would obviously be the time that the last booked attempt was completed and that was of course whollly dependent on how many attempts were booked before midnight and how long the players then took to get though the backlog of booked attempts.

One person didn't want to wait and was given his money back.

So really can't see the problem in respect of "finishing time" unless anyone was allowed to book and pay for attempts after midnight which Jay has clearly said wasn't the case. Just a two cents worth:)

Right. All the the complainers are WAY off base on this one.

You da MAN!

the premise of this thread is dumb. Need I say more?

Props go out to Jay Helfert for putting together the one pocket challenge, look forward to seeing it next year.

The bigger question is WERE YOU THERE? I don't remember meeting you if you were. Most AZ'ers came up and introduced themselves to me.

deleted because of misquote.

Hi Jay: According to him in an earlier post he did meet and talk to you.

This is what he said:
"Jay Helfert remarked to me that he didn't think she (Allison) could break that well."

Maybe he could refresh your memory more if you don't remember who you made this remark to you.

That's interesting. Where did you dredge this quote up from? It sure wasn't on this thread.

I learned something a long time ago about promoting pool events. No matter what you do, you will never please everyone. There will always be "knockers" around taking pot shots at you. It goes with the territory.

The Derby City One Pocket Challenge will be back next year, bigger and better than ever. I invite you all to come and watch (and play if you like). You'll see why we had so much fun this year. And if anyone thinks they can beat Gabe's 60 on the TV table, I will be offering 10-1 odds on a hundred dollar bet all day long (whenever the table is open).

The 1P challenge was a highlight for me at this years DCC. Thanks, Jay for the idea and the execution. I must admit I was wondering about the fairness of finishing the event on a different table. If Mika and the rest of the high scorers are ok with it then nobody else should be complaining, especially a non player. 60 balls on that equipment is a spectacular effort. Thanks again Jay. I look forward to it again next year.

I still would like to know how Gabe was breaking (i aksed the q in DCC forum). Where did the cue ball end up on the break shot?

On day two, Allen Hopkins taught everyone how to break. It was a third ball One Pocket break with a little more speed.

I have waited 2 days since the DCC hoping Jay would come clean and admit his unfair decision regarding his 1p challenge. Again the integrity and credibility of the game has been compromised and no less by one of the most popular guys on this forum and in the industry. I really enjoyed the
1p challenge, especially the friendly competition between several top players trying to crack this extremely difficult test of skill. Alex, John, Cliff, Mika and Gabe trying over and over to break 50 but to no avail. Finally John Schmidt got to 45 under extremely difficult conditions in the room where the straight pool challenge was also being held. Finally on the last day Mika got to 47 score to take the lead. I watched Alex and Gabe pulling their hair out trying to succeed to win. They spent a lot of money trying as did John. Then lo and behold it was posted that Gabe finally came through at shot a 60. Wow that was great I thought. Jay posted what a good accomplishment it was and how well Gabe played. (Gabe played well all week). But Jay selectively forgot to mention, that early in the morning of the last night of the competion he let Gabe try the challenge on the "TV TABLE". You got to be kidding me I told John. He confirmed it. Now I ask you did he let anyone else go out there and try it? No. That has got to be one of the most unfair decisions I have ever heard of. Put one player on a much easier table for a shot at the money when noone else had a chance. That table played so much easier than the ones in the challenge room. 60 was a piece of cake. Think of all the money spent by all the players to try this challenge on only 2 tables in a tough room then find out one player got a huge advantage by going to the TV table. What a joke and insult to all who tried that discipline on the very difficult tables. I watched for hours and let me tell you they were much tougher than the TV table.
So our sport has another black eye to overcome. What a sad state of affairs, please explain Jay.

I went back and read this again just now. You told one blatant lie after another. Shame on you. You should be pleased to know that you are only the second person I ever gave bad rep to in three plus years on AZ.

Perhaps next time, you will check your facts before spewing garbage all over yourself.

So if I show up and beat all of your so called "pros" you won't get mad? I tell you what, if you just send me that money now it will save you the torture of having to stand there and watch me run those balls.

Seriously, I can't believe people are *****ing about your tournament. You cut off registration at midnight then stayed until 6 am to give everybody a chance. Some people just like to complain.

Don't you get it? This was not a match. It was a contest of an individual skill that was suppose to be done on equal terms for everyone because they all contributed hundreds of dollars.
If I had a weekly break pot and it went on for several months with no winner and then one night I decided to change to an easier table and only a few got to try it and won I would get chastized because I let all that money go to someone who got a lot better chance to win. Get it?
