John Schmidt/Shane Van Boening Vs. Quintan Hann????

Noone should be drawing too many or too significant similarities between uk style 8 ball, which is what Hann played now and again during a few years when he didn't have snooker engagements......and American 8 ball. Not only are they worlds apart in terms of the table/ball sizes but planets apart in respect of the rules that are played which have a fundamental effect on the entire game philosophies.

It might be hard for some in the USA who have been grinding away at pool all their lives without ever becoming brilliant at it to accept, but Hann is no different from most of the other uk style 8 ball players in respect of the absolutely genuine fact that none of them had any experience of playing any pool game on American equipment before IPT (the biggest excepton being Pat Holtz who did play quite a bit of 9 ball before that but ironically his IPT results weren't actually amongst the best).

The main reason why they did so well after no more than a few weeks (at most a few months practice in some cases) was not their experience of uk style 8 ball (though of course it helped), it was actually the same reasons why John can already run century breaks in snooker......because they are superbly talented cueists and because they have an inherent natural ability to quickly and competently assess the merits and disadvantages of tactical options within any given set of equipment and rules they are presented with. For the same fundamental reasons John would no doubt pick up the safety aspects of snooker much quicker than many might expect.

Neither snooker nor 9 ball would be remotely fair proposals and if there is a more reasonable middle ground than American 8 ball it's difficult to see what game it might be:)

John wanting to play 9 ball at home seems as unfair and unreasonable as it would have been if Quinten had suggested snooker in Australia. Good opening gambit for some negotiations though;)

Just been on the phone to Taipei.they said they have some players that are happy to play your format snooker then 8ball.they have many under ground players that are jumping at this.they are thinking they just have to send one of the girls to deal with you..hahaha.they said it is not worth the time sending the juniors as there is no show.
I have been told by there coach who goes by the name Eddie(wu,wulun,ko pin yi)that if you ever decide to go to taipei with that mouth of your you will end up in big trouble and lose alot of $$$$.
PM me to arrange this!

your a moron i pumped wu ching chua 8-1 or 8-2 at the ipt i was top 20 for years at snooker there are no mystery snooker stars cause they all go to england and try to qualify. why is the world full of wankers that is why i stopped playing in australia 11 years ago because of ignorant fools like you.

crawl back under your rock this has nothing to do with you asswipe

I think if Sigel or Strickland stepped in here, we'd get some real good quotes for future reference!;)

Schmidt is right though, this isn't an aspect based on size and what not, its about billiards skill and thats what you should be betting on. Personally, I'd like to see some straight pool action over 9 ball or 8 Ball.

I think they should agree to play 3-cushion. :-)

Finally, another option arrives!
As much fun as I bet it would be to see them play some one hole or straight pool, I bet it would be a really interesting 3 cushion game...........
I think the only game they haven't offered so far is ten ball.
But personally, I'd like to see something other than 8 or 9 ball.

Do we have a location found yet......?

So why not stop being a sally on the internet and send over a deposit? How about you play John in 8ball and then you can box with Justin and/or Chad...

That just wouldn't be fair, IMO. Take a look at this chart and you'll see why.

I agree that 8 ball would be the fairest game for this first encounter - UK 8 ball has as much relevance to US 8 ball as snooker or 3 cushion, in that they are games played with cues and balls, make no mistake even with 8 ball John will have home field advantage.
The real test / answer to the pool vs. snooker question I believe could only be settled in a delayed (to give the snooker player time to properly prepare) rematch would be straight pool.
It would have to be a challenge match with a very big prize, couldn't see it working for less that $ 1 million - the snooker player would have to miss a whole season to train - then I would love to see what Quinten or Ronnie, Stephen, Steve (a few years ago Alex Higgins !) could do. Both snooker and straight pool are about break building, cluster management, cue ball control, tactics etc. this would be the ultimate test.
The match could take a format whereby it was played in blocks of a 1000 points played in various locations around the world, at the end of a 'block' the cue / break balls' positions would be carefully marked so that the match is 'continuous', this would allow for a bonus high run prize of say $ 1000 a ball. With television and sponsorship this would be a very marketable match.
In the meantime if Quinten and John can play 8 ball maybe this summer on neutral territory, Hawaii seems mid-way between them, that'd be a good start.

Well Dubai might be considered a neutral venue. The World 8 Ball Championship is to be held nearby in Fujairah emirate next month.

They can both come any time between the 12th and the 16th April and if they want to they can play in any of the the local qualifying competitions being played on the side. No need to take too many days out of their schedule, they can be in and out as quickly as they like.

Very short notice but say the word and I will do the legwork here and ensure fair play all round. Visas not a problem....but leave the hash at home:)

one other thing i do want to say is.i think i was wrong bringing up the sexual assault stuff as you were found innocent and frankly thats not right for me to say something like that without knowing for sure.so basically im saying im sorry about that and ill never bring it up again.but every since i heard you challenge a guy smaller than you to a fight i lost respect for you.i cant stand bullies .you can try to bully me on the pooltable its not going to be easy i promise you.like i said i will play you 30ahead 9ball for 30000 and i will post money and we can play this month.

you really dont know much do you john yes i asked a weasle (smaller guy) outside when he said the wrong thing to me. i dont care if your 60kg or 130kg if you say the wrong thing you deserve what you get in life, im talking shit to you cause i think your an average player and i think your a weak man from your posts here. in my eyes your a weak bully for mentioning the shitty court cases i went threw as soon as it got a little hot you took the easy shot, that was a real sucker punch that only a dog would throw it showed me what type of person you are.

keep your half baked apoligy i dont need or want one from you

i stepped into the ring in the uk with an irish footballer i put out an open offer to any footballer there (they got paid 20k win or lose) 2 others withdrew before this guy, i then battered him around for 3 rounds with 2 8 counts he was 6'2 100kg and his nose ended up splattered across his face im a 90kg 6'3 couch potato and i never got a single mark, so i can pick on big guys too even though im no great fighter. by the time it got to print i had the broken nose and was put in my place i guess they print what people want to hear.

everyone seems so keen on putting me down and putting me in my place why dont you step up john. your a full time player i played 100 hours tops in my whole life on an american table including my competition's and your scared to play me 8 ball shit i dont even own a pool cue, and your trying to lock me up playing games i never played i think your piss weak and people here have you on some pedastool wow is that your claim to fame loved by all on az.

oh and a player called me today and told me you could not even afford an entry fee for the us open your obviously a pool bum with no money and need a lock up before you will play anyone. why dont you come on here again with your hand out asking for people to back you against me at 8 ball at this point i dont care who puts up your money i just want to play you.

9 ball is a shit game i never want to play again and 30 ahead is a joke by the time i work out how much i get per hour for this match i would want to shoot myself for playing it. and you want me to come to your home town too i was stupid to think you would accept a fair game, i think a huge percentage of pool players are shit you included who could never have even got on a secondary snooker tour no matter how many years you had.

ill play 8 ball because I know it and I can practise for a week and beat you, i can slot playing you into my holidays and maybe get a little re-interested in cue sports again plus earn some extra spending money. i dont have the time or interest to learn other games if i somehow do in the future you will be the first person i challenge.

so 8 ball 30k ill post my money with action challenge and they can sort out venue etc

as for me being some type of closet 8 ball shark what a joke i could write up my whole 10 year tournament career on one sheet of paper. and the amount of time i have had a cue in my hand practising i bet you would have played more in 12 months than i did in 12 years.

Well if there was 20k on the fight i would think it would have been recorded on video,do you have video of this fight and who was your opponent?

Keeping a close eye on this thread. I would love to see a proper match up between John and Quinten and buy the DVD the same day it?s up for sale.
Choice of game imo should be a mix of 8-ball, 10-ball and straight. I?ve been wondering for years how a top snooker player would perform in straight pool, given the chance to get used to the game. My guess is that they would need a little time to master the break- and keyball patterns but as soon as they get the hang of it they would definitely be scoring big time.
9-ball would be silly as there is too much emphasis on the break.

In eager anticipation of this match-up.

New Orleans is the location. FATCATS please apply within.

New Orleans is the melting pot of the world. We are an easy-going people who condone idiosyncracies but know how to take care of business as well. Hell, they even call us THE BIG EASY.

We have our share of powder kegs and nut busters but for the most part, it is a place where anyone of kindred spirit might take a pool vacation and get everything they ever hoped for. Our night life is second to none and our food quality and taste is unsurpassed.

The bars and pool halls are open 24/7 and of course we are host of the famous Bourbon Street for wild carousing and we can't leave out the Mardi Gras where you can get lambasted by the alcohol, the police or another party goer of like mind. :D

We have Diamond Table Pool halls and Gold Crown pool halls (where the bangers play) and both of the pool halls use the great Diamond lights. The tables are kept in good condition and everyone likes to gamble and the patrons are sooooooo easy.

I think your idea of a straight pool match would settle the discussion as to who is the better player, especially if ample time is given to Quinten to get the game down-pat. Of course, Quinten and John would have to agree that it would be a good test of skills.

In addition to some promoter or philanthropist would have to put up the big bucks, (I'm sure John nor Quinten have a million dollars to risk.)

The hook though, would have to be that EACH player would have to put up $20,000.00 of their own money as a deposit. Either player who backs out of the match would forfeit their $20,000.00.

Now all we have to do is find a FATCAT willing to put up the cash. :D

Not sure if you really meant me but it was my post quoted so will just clarify that straight pool definitely not 'my' idea of the fairest compromise Joey, I'm with the 8 ball vote.

.........but damn you've sold me on New Orleans, to hell with John and Quinten, I'm on my way:)

If they have any balls at all, they'll stop eating their soup with their spoons upside down.....

It certainly was not my suggestion that the players would be fronting a million dollars, I figured television and sponsorship deals would take care of that.

I believe that there are many TV / web viewers of both snooker and pool who would be interested in watching a challenge match between the two sports.

It would make for compelling viewing and the interest would probably benefit both sports - especially straight pool as its been a while since 'The hustler' came out.

if your scared to play 9ball just say so.you keep saying im average your right i play like the other average pros in this country who would all rob you playing 9ball.in 9ball you have to break, kick, push out, play 2way shots, power shots, safeties, jump shots and move the white around alot.im sure you could handle it.trust me you could not beat me 30ahead no matter how long you tried.hell you could not even win a snooker tourney.8ball is the game amatuers play in u.s. thats why your so good at it.you say you can learn any pool game quickly than go learn what i have and you can try me some 8ball,9ball,10ball,rotation,banks,onepocket,14.1,backpocket9ball,3cusionbilliards and after i rob you at those games we can play snooker.then we can go play golf on the golf course.someone with your manners should fit right in on the golf course.yeah someone did stake me in the usopen 9ball.but guess what i won the tourney you should try it sometime.dont be mad at me that you are not talented enough and had to resort to dumping matches.when you actually show up to america to play me or beat me up or whatever your big plan is then i will take you serious.until then your just another egomaniac attention whore ,we have plenty of those on tour already so you will fit right in.
