Apparently they are going to play a big set at the derby.

Taken from JA's FB.

"it looks like Mike Dechaine and I will be playing a big action match at Derby City. It will be on Big Truck's stream. We will be playing 10-ball race to 21, two out of three sets. I am really looking forward to playing a big match like this cause I havn't played many of these in the last 20 years. I guess he is the favorite in this match since he is half my age. I am gonna have to be on top of my game to compete with Mike. Maybe I can win one for the old guys. Let's do this. Who is with me??"

I wonder how big? Who do you like?

Wow... If I had to lay a bet on this I would have to go with MD. But deep down I'd be rooting for JA. I'd be conflicted...

I remember when I was the captain of my varsity bball team and played my Dad some 1 on 1...he pulled out every old school move in the book and dominated me. Don't bark up a tree, sometimes they fall on you.

I predict JA wins it somehow someway.

Ok you got me......

Haha I remember you started the thread for when I got banned...that's solid. Had to bring it back to life. Send me a PM about the time they play and if it's got some streaming we can probably work out a bet. I like free money.

I usually pull for the older guy in a match, but I'll be pulling for Mike in this one. Mostly because I like Mike's style of play way better than Johnny's, but also I've had just a little bit of personal interaction with each of them at past US Opens (9 ball) and my interaction with Mike was way more positive. Some might be surprised but that's the way it went for me.

JA ain't over 50 and has better table management than MD. Tougher the table the more I like JA. MD could easily be surprised. When I saw Varner last year....when it came to board play he ''owned'' Chip Compton on a tight, Ernesto refurbished Diamond 9' ten ball event. If the conditions limit run outs, JA's board play should be sufficient.

Arguably, two of the three best American players here. Should be a dandy. Mike's a slight favorite in my opinion.

Mike is, indeed, younger, but age isn't always where it's at. Efren was roughly three times the age of Skyler Woodward when he beat him in the 2014 Derby City 9-ball.

Johnny is a champion and he is wily. He def has a chance.

With that said, my $$$ would be with Mike and my window is open.

pm if interested. :)

Anyone would have trouble beating JA in a match like this. He'll be rested, settled in and used to the table. This is different than running into him in bracket play after he flew across the pond. I'd be surprised if MD won a set. But hey, that's just me.

Yeah, but being perfectly honest you are talking about an old guy that is probably the best "post-break" rotation player to ever live in his prime. Skylar is a pretty good player, but he is not even close to "Efren in his prime" level and he never will be.

Mike Dechaine is probably not quite as good as Johnny was in his prime, but a young Johnny and young Dechaine would at least be in the same ballpark.

This is a tough one to try and figure out. when you say that JA and MD both in their prime would be in the same ballpark. Part of me wants to agree with you but I can't help but think that JA won a lot of tourneys in his prime and was facing people like Efren, Buddy hall, Strickland, Sigel, Varner to name a few. Arguably some of the greatest players in history and won A LOT. How many of these type of players is MD having to fade? I know there are some great players out there MD being one of them. I just don't think he has had to fade the same competition as JA did in his prime.

Then again like I said it's hard to prove a bit like the old argument who would have won Ali in his prime Vs Tyson in his prime

Definitely with JA, go go old man
MD is slight favorite but me thinks JA should be able to pinch 1 set at least:D

Here's my thoughts on this.

It greatly depends on how Johnny comes out of the gate. If he plays strong from the get go and puts pressure on Dechaine, I see Johnny taking it down.

If Mike is able to take an early lead and start free stroking, I give him the edge.

Either way, it will be a good match up.

The deciding factor on who wins, could very well depend on who racks the balls. If Mike racks, I make him the 4 to 1 favorite. Trick racking wins over skill every time.
