Do you prefer to lag for the initial break, or flip a coin? If you prefer to flip a coin, do you prefer heads or tails?

I can't believe this...

Do you prefer to lag for the initial break, or flip a coin? If you prefer to flip a coin, do you prefer heads or tails?

If you flip a coin, do you prefer to flip a nickel, dime, quarter, loonie or toonie?

If you flip a coin, do you let it drop to the floor or catch it and put it on your wrist?

If you flip a coin, do you prefer to flip the coin or let the other guy flip it?

If you lag, do you prefer to start your lag before the other guy or after he has started to lag?

If you lag, do you prefer the left or right hand side of the table?

If you lag, what ball do you prefer to lag with?

If you participate in this poll, does that mean you're a loser?

Tails never fails.

One old trick, for those who aren't already aware... always try to lag 2nd if you can. You get a little feedback watching how much oomph the other guy put into his lag and (if you're really slow) how it came off the foot rail. It can help you judge how to hit your lag if you're not familiar with the table speed yet.

Where we play if the second player lags after the first players lag hits the end rail it is a do over.

There was a study that concluded that there's a very slight bias (like 0,01% or something) to the coin to land on the side which it was up just before the throw. Just FYI. Can't bother to search for the study, though, so you have to just believe me on this. ;-)

Flip or lag doesn't matter to me. Some places don't like flipping due to the fact it can cut the cloth:eek:

It is a game of pool. Use your skills to win the break.

I think there was a story about Willie beating someone 150 to 0 and he told the loser that he lost because he needs to lag better.

my thoughts exactly

My thoughts exactly. Nine times out of ten the set is started with a coin flip around here, tournament or gambling. Why use luck or a totally different skill set to determine the beginning of a pool match up and what can be a huge edge sometimes? Win the flip in most One Pocket match ups and you are halfway home.

Exactly... why leave the choice to luck when you could bring skill in to play. I can't recall a player that I thought was really good ever coming up to me and asking heads or tails. Kind of a given we would lag.

without reading earlier posts of the thread, the very first shot of any match is the LAG (not the first break as you might have thought). And it is very important part of the game. There are enough examples of people losing a lag and sitting nailed to their chair while the opponent runs 150 and out on them in straight pool.

Always lag it's a free shot. If you win you break if you lose you just learned something about the table speed.

If you lag in a strange bar be prepared for a 20 minute explanation of what's a "real lag". We only play by real rules (these rules change by the 1/2 hour) none of this BCA sissy stuff.

The rest researched by MIT scientists (lol): If you prefer flipping coins over lagging gamble at the discount casino in Chevy Chase's "Vegas vacation".

Flip coin on table call tails

Flip coin and slap on your wrist call heads

I always lag for the break if given the opinion, if you have practiced the lag shot your odds are much better than 50 / 50 that flipping a coin will give you. Playing almost every game with the exception of 14-1 the break is too important to allow to a 50 / 50 proposition / chance.

Lag is the way tog go. In straight pool if I'm going to have to break I would at least want it to be because my opponent beat me fair and square in the lag.

For the same reason, in One Hole, 9/10 ball or 8 ball I want the lag because I feel the guy who gets the break in a hill/hill decider should have earned it, not gotten lucky with the toss.

Why must we be continually placing labels on things. Can't we all get along. Let's compromise and call it a Flag. One guy tosses a coin while the other one lags. If the guy lagging comes within three-quarters of an inch from the rail and the coin lands on heads, then they both leave the poolroom and don't come back until a week from Tuesday. It all may seem little confusing at first but after the fourth shot of Quervo you can start to see the logic in it. :D
