Mark Tadd

you i'm not sure, but I do have a true shrot story about him,

i used to go to A's games for years sat in the bleachers, I was a fat kid with nothing going on in my life, anyways one time we sneeked past the security guard into the good seats(yup another crime) and I saw what had to be the hottest girl I ever saw in my life, I was a virgin. I knew I had no shot at a girl that hot, everyone was looking at her it was crazy. Anyways she jumped over the wall into the dugout and I found out later on it was Jose's girl friend, that was one of the things that prompeted me to do what ever it takes to get what I WANT IN LIFE. I hated how I felt standing there staring at her helpless-I knew then that I had to get off my ass and make it happen. So I did.
So you stole Jose's girl? :p
Props to you for getting your life where you wanted it and have obtained the things you want.To me I am not the type to hate,I walk my own path and look at people who are successful and say if I choose the right path perhaps I will get there,if not I have a beautiful girl and are sharp little guy to teach things to and not to mention my good looks. :D

Gee I just got my popcorn and big gulp to sit down and enjoy a nice Mark Tadd story and I get all these commercials. Viagra, Cialis, and that irritating guy that says just wipe this ointment on and your aches go away. I mean I love the story of the Little Train That Couldnt but do we have to hear it on every thread?

No sadly I didnt get the girl. Looks are good for a day or 2 for me, back then anything would have been good. But my point is and this relates to pool too, if you want it bad enough you'll do what it takes, given our own limitations. When I first saw the champions playing, guys like Mark Tadd it was a rush, I played hard for years but I just dont have the "Gift" to be champion in our sport. But I worked hard to play as good as I do, which is way down because of my back. But when you see something in life go for it balls to the wall-if you really want it. I'm sure Jose has more good looking girls than me, and thats cool he is better looking, is a celebrity etc. But every dog has day and I suppose a few super hott girls made a mistake and hooked up with me, kinda like Efren missing BIH it happens. :)

"press on regardless" no matter what is holding you back from your goals.

Does anyone remember Mark playing Keith at the Hardtimes years ago? I don't know who won for I left in disgust.

I had one game on the wire on a sweat bet, but whenever either one missed and a runout was possible - it seemed that they would rake the balls and rack.

I wanted an honest try for my one game on the wire - live and learn - bet no more.

Mark Tadd is an awesome player from back in the 90's i guess was his prime.

I have a few bootlegs of him gambling playing bank pool.

He was a true gunfighter and fearless and matched up with anyone who would play and bet high.

He was part of the poker boom which got him away from pool and then he found religion and quit gambling.

He isone of your boy marty's favorite players

Maybe someone could get the word to him to come down to Phoenix again for the (Az. Desert Classic Tour) 2008 Az State 14.1 Championship on June 21/22. It's open to all players.

He came through a few years ago when another tour only allowed Arizona residents. Unfortunately, he was not allowed to play. We all missed out for sure.

Jay,
For once I will have to disagree. It is very true that in the early nineties (around the time Mark snapped off the LA open) He was liable to beat anyone in the world. At that time (1989-2001) Antonio was the favorite. I seen Antonio torture everyone. He is only one of two players in the world who has a winning record at nineball against Efren. Antonio has that grind you down mindset, and he broke the balls as well as anyone ever did, plus he didn't miss (pretty effective combo). His second to last big road trip to the US he played so good it was scary. He beat everyone who would play that trip (he even beat Brian Groce giving up the sixball on the small track) He ran out of action so he beat the barbox ghost giving up 10 games on the wire and without ball in hand to a race to twenty. I know Mark was ultra talented and has a work ethic like no one else (I seen him practice the same shot for hours till I left the pool room) but Antonio playing 9ball was unreal.

I think is was January of 06 that I met Mark. I was at the tournaments in Tunica and sat down at a plo table. I had heard of him but never met him. In conversation with the older guy next to me that was telling me all kinds of stories about the old guys. Cornbread Red, Jersey Red, Marshall Carpenter, etc. About that time Mark chimned in and said that I must know a damn thing about pool or I would know him. I knew of him, I had just never seen him. He is/was a very fun guy to have at a poker table. I asked him why he wasn't at the DCC and he made the comment we all know about there being no money in pool. Between him and the older guy(I cant remember his name) I heard a bunch of good stories. We bs'd a couple hours before he left for the evening tournament. I look back on that time at the plo table with him with fond memories. After hearing him at the poker table I could see were he would have been fun in a pool hall.

Roids arnt cheating, what the do in a overly simplified way is they all you to train more often because your recovery times is shortened. You still have to put in the same amount of work, just in a shorter period of time. You dont get size for free you gotta pay your dues. your not a hater your a stalker. there is no doubt in my mind you would love to own the cars I do, been with the girls I have, stayed in the hotels, flown in the private jets I have, owned the mansions I have, traveled the world like I have, Bought your parents a house like I did, sent kids to private school, but you never will following another mans foot steps, your a follower i'm a leader.

Well said, but nobody is wishing they had your pool stroke:D :D Just busting your balls, trying to keep you a bit humble.

I have an accu-stats tape of Sigel beating Tadd 13-5. I can't imagine Sigel not wanting to play anyone, but I don't know.

Once again, Mike Sigel did NOT want to gamble with Mark Tadd! Sorry if I burst anyone's bubble. And yes, Mike was the favorite over Mark in a tournament match. I'd bet on him every time, but not if they were gambling, say Ten Ahead. Funny huh.

Russ Chewning said:
That's one of the things that separates the truly great players from us mere mortals. They have the ability to just WATCH a player, and analyze their game down to the nuts and bolts.

Mike Sigel won many many many tournaments. That's a given.

Why?

Because he played technically perfect pool, match after match. By this, I mean he played good position, always got out when he was supposed to, and played locakdown safes when there was a doubt.

Mark Tadd? He would just try his best to put a 7-10 pack on you, and had the ability to do so.

Now, imagine fading that kind of heat. You play someone like that a long ahead set, and EVEN IF you are playing the "correct shot" 100% of the time, all it takes is ONE mistake, and the guy might run the set out on you.

The reason some really really really good players ducked Mark Tadd, is he bet as high as you would possibly bet, and then he rarely dogged a shot for that kind of money.

That's the same reason why Mark was respectful of Buddy and Jose back then. Buddy OR Jose were both MORE than capable of playing perfect sets, just like Mark, but THEY were probably a bit more knowledgable on percentages and such.

Playing anyone but Archer, Buddy, Parica, etc.. Mark could get away with running two and safe, and missing the safe slightly. I've seen many matches of Archer, Buddy, and Jose shutting someone DOWN if they are even the slightest bit off. And they played BETTER for the cash.

There are players that are terrific tournament players, and there are people who are terrific gamblers. The tournament players stand up well to tournament pressure, and are able to bring their A game for every match. The gamblers are able to play their A game, or very close to it, for 6-18 hours straight, and can deal well when someone runs 5 racks on them. Some, can do both.

Sigel i don't think was ever known as much of a gambler. Sure, he gambled big sometimes against some of the greats, but I think forst and foremost, he was a percentage player. There's not much positive expectation to playing all-time greats for big money. Not much to be won playing someone who is a threat to run 5 racks EVERY time they come to the table, like Tadd was.

Russ

Thanks Russ, I couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm with you all the way. I knew Antonio well, and by the way, he is still playing over there from time to time. He was a great player and wasn't afraid to play ANYONE, including Sigel, Johnny or Hatch. It just so happened that when he matched up with Mark, he was not at his best. Mark had been playing high stakes poker for months. At his best, Antonio may not have liked the game that much, although he was a bulldog.

I met Mark at the DCC this year and I have to thank you Jay for bringing him out. What a pleasure it was to meet a nice humble young man with a big stroke as his. He was so open and warm that you couldnt help cheer for him. I had heard many stories about him. Mostly about how good he was but also some bad ones as well. Well whatever he has done to change the course of his life he is doing fine. I hope he'll be there next year.

Yep my thoughts exactly. I was expecting another A$$HOLE like Earl, but Tadd seems like a pretty decent fellow.

I spoke with him for about an hour or so, while he babbled and continiuously practiced.

Happy with what we've got!

Lakewalker, that's a great, simple, well thought out statement. I admire you and hope you and your family live this Dream for all your lives.

In the early 90's I watched mark practice his break for about 2hrs. straight without ever using the rack. He could rack them with his hands very quickly. I don't know how many breaks he made in that time, but it seemed like hundreds. I knew that anyone that dedicated to practice would make it to the top if he stayed with it.
