IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE ABP TO ALL US OPEN PLAYERS
PLAYERS:

The ABP has taken the step this year of partnering with Barry Behrman and Shannon Paschall, co-promoters of the US Open 9-Ball Championships, to be able to assure you of prompt payment at this years event. We are grateful to Barry and Shannon as they have agreed to establish payment times several times each day so that all can be paid prize monies as promptly as possible.

As this is the responsibility of the ABP we need to establish accurate records so that we know where every participant is as relates to entry fees paid in and prize money payouts. In short, we need to create a spreadsheet of players for the event that will be public information so that no one who has paid falls through the cracks and is denied entry. This spreadsheet will be updated regularly on AZBilliards so that everyone who has registered will be able to see that they are on the official entry list.

To this end, if you have already registered to play and paid your entry fee (or do so prior to August 20) please register with the ABP by sending an email with your contact information to JAScorpion4@aol.com and we will get you on the list. Players who enter and pay after August 20 do not need to do this as your names will be provided to us by the ticket firm handling the online registrations. Information as to other methods of payment will be forthcoming shortly.

I bet getting this done was like a trip to the dentist. ;) Just kidding!

Glad to hear Barry and Shannon pulled it together, hats off to them and the ABP. If the US Open would have died, or been relegated to B players like me - that would have been a crying shame.

Last I remember was a little mild woofing about you and Shane making a game.
I still have hope that comes to pass.

I'm confused - shouldn't the concentration and efforts for clarity in the tournament be on the added money - not the player's entry fees. That has not been an issue in the past unless I missed that story.

Thanks, Johnny, so has there been a problem with entrees "falling through the cracks" in the past......I never thought that was an issue.

Why should you worry about entries? If this is a problem then they need a new organization to take over the US Open.
I have ran many tournaments, some with big money others not so big money. I have also ran pro volleyball tournaments with over 600 teams and I have never missed an entry nor had an issue paying players.

We need to stop making this the normal in pro pool. Archer: this is unacceptable and this poor management needs to stop being backed by the ABP PERIOD!!!!!
 
Johnny - as a person that has admired your game and you personally for awhile I have to ask. You were touting bonus ball as the it game. Can you give us poor folk some reality? is it dead; are you not marketing it anymore; whats the status? thanks much !

He wants someone to create an official chart or spreadsheet that
lists all the players who have paid their entry fee to the US Open.

It can be posted publicly on AZbilliards so if you sign up for the tournament,
you can just check this site to see if they got your information and entry fee.

I guess there's been a problem in the past where people tried to sign up for event,
but they had problems at the door because nobody could find a record
of their signing up or a record of their entry fee payment.

A more important problem has been everyone getting paid on time,
and if I'm reading Johnny right, he also wants a public record showing
who has been paid their prize money, and who hasn't.
 
I'm a little confused. Has the ABP signed a contract to escrow and pay out the funds for the US Open 9 Ball Tournment? Are Barry and Shannon no longer responsible for the payouts to the players? If so, who from the ABP do the players see about getting paid at the tournment?

An escrow is:
an arrangement made under contractual provisions between transacting parties, whereby an independent trusted third party receives and disburses money or documents for the transacting parties, with the timing of such disbursement by the third party dependent on the fulfillment of contractually agreed conditions by the transacting parties, or
an account established by a broker, under the provisions of license law, for the purpose of holding funds on behalf of the broker's principal or some other person until the consummation or termination of a transaction;[1] or,
a trust account held in the borrower's name to pay obligations such as property taxes and insurance premiums.

Gunn_Slinger; here's a brief Press Release that was posted here in AZ Billiards that might answer some of your questions:

Shannon and Barry are extremely happy to have been given the opportunity to establish an escrow account with Mr. Dennis Walsh, attorney and Johnny Archer, President of the Association of Billiards Professionals.

As usual for the past decade the U.S. Open has been a WPA sanctioned event and will remain the same under the guidelines set before us. We want to thank Mr. Ian Anderson, President of the WPA and Mr. Skip Nemecek, WPA USA Representative for allowing us to remain a WPA sanctioned event. Because of the WPA we receive players from over 20 countries and federations along with our great American players.

We have done as we promised and placed our minimum added money of $50,000 by the deadline of today August 12, 2013 as well as player’s entry fees collected thus far.

Players please remember for the month of August only, we have an early bird special saving you $100 by paying a $400 entry fee by August 31st. We will also pay the $100 per player entry fee. Zero exceptions after August 31st.

We have been working spot on with entry details and will continue through the end of this year’s edition of our 38th Annual U.S. Open.

I believe that Barry or Shannon may still issue the checks but with the Attorney's or Archer's signature on the checks.

Payment should occurr within 2 hours of the Player been eliminated from the event. (or at least that is what I understood from another press release).

I use AOL myself. I usually get a little chuckle when I tell people, or I make a joke about it, something like "and yes, I am the last one...". It goes very well with my Members Only jacket.

But the fact is, combined with Outlook 2013, it works seamlessly and is a powerful tool. AOL keeps all messages received and sent on their servers. Since it's imap, I can log in on Outlook from anywhere and it loads my history. Plus I can access all of the messages with any web browser or phone from anywhere. It's very easy to set up on Outlook too - just email address and password.

I have over 8,000 saved messages and using Outlook's powerful search features, I can pretty much find anything quickly.

Plus...my work phone messages are transcribed by my voicemail computer and emailed to me with a wave file - so I can access voicemail on my cell without having to dial in.

Pool players will never learn :o.
 
If I entered I'd be damned if I check in with Charlie Williams or any of his crony organizations. They are not the authority, if they don't want to play, don't play. But they are no governing body of pool, if so it would really get bad.

Besides entry's are meaningless, the added $ is what needs accounted for, they are showing again the ABP is on the wrong track as usual.
