Mike D withdraws from World 14.1

Mike still eatin' off The Hustlers money, how is he broke?

Well, number one, those who think reality shows pay big bucks are mistaken. Number two, don't believe everything you read on the Internet. To think Mike Dechaine is broke is a misnomer. Because of his recent pool activities, excluding the reality TV show, he has backers, stakehorses, and sponsors to pay his way if he so desires. The kid has an entire fan club up in New England. They've stuck by him like glue through the good and the bad. Loyal fans in a fickle pool world is nothing to sneeze at.

charlie williams is a real shady character; has been for some time.

mike dechaine is a brash, cocky, pool player with whom you always know where you stand because he is largely unfiltered.

I'll take the latter *every* time.

best,
brian kc

I don't disagree regarding Charlie but at least he holds the tournament which had gone dormant and we get to see some world class 14.1

Regarding Dechaine, in the format of the tournament seeding isn't particularly important. If I was him I'd have just stayed in the tournament and played. It is interesting about him not saying anything about Charlie getting half his winnings in exchange for the 3 seed until after he withdrew.

Had a problam with what? ,,.. he was told he is the 3 seed ,,.. if i walk into a store and they tell me an item costs $3 ,, when I take it to the counter and it costs $15 ,, I'm not going to buy that item ,,

Very bad analogy. Not even close to how this situation went down. Think of it at someone buying you a dinner of their choice. When you don't like what you get, the person suddenly makes you pay for a meal you didn't want. It's ****ed up, but Mike put himself in that spot to begin with. Had Mike just said he was going to put himself in to begin with none of this would be happening. Mike dug his own grave. Charlie threw salt in the wound, and fell into the grave after. Neither person seems very intelligent in their decision making so far.

Some observations:

-Nobody involved in the seeding of players in a tournament should have any financial stake in how any of the players do. It is a conflict of interest and even if there truly are no shenanigans being done, it still gives that impression and many will suspect it and therefore the integrity of the event is completely undermined. The exception to this rule *might* be if the seeding process is based on something concrete and objective and out of the promoter’s control (like an official rankings list, or how players did in a previous particular tournament/s) and otherwise involves zero judgment or subjectivity, and the seeding method being used has been made public and has been in use for some period of time (meaning the seeding method is basically permanent and doesn’t change on the whim of the promoter).

-No promoter should be publicly disparaging players, especially without provocation from said players. Not only is it classless, but it damages the promoter and their events (and the sport for that matter) because it makes people question the impartiality and therefore the integrity of the promoter. To do this shows some incompetence on the promoter’s part IMO.

-Even if you fully believe Mike’s story (and the story from the other side is very different), based on his own version of events he doesn’t even appear to have his hands fully clean in this deal either. He admits that he didn’t feel he shouldn’t be the #3 seed. His anger is that when he tried to get 100% of the proceeds all to himself from the “cheat” or “scam” that Charlie set up, instead of having to split it 50/50 with Charlie as Charlie had planned, that Charlie wouldn't let him do it and decided to pull the plug on it and seed him where the merits said he should be seeded. His anger is not that his seeding was changed (he knows he was moved to a more accurate and justified seeding), but in the why it was changed (Charlie wasn’t willing to let the “scam” go through unless he was getting a cut and Mike didn’t want to share a cut).

-Anybody that knocks Charlie but doesn’t knock Barry Behrman just as strongly is either an idiot or a hypocrite of the highest order and a lot of the Charlie knockers I see are either always mum about Barry or sometimes outright Barry supporters. However bad Charlie may be Barry easily gives him the 7 out in the sleazy and shady department. Stop being a hypocrite.

Promoters and sponsorship

So you never Sponsored Efren in any of your tournies?

CSI has never participated in the outcome of a player's performance. A couple times we gave some rooms ( when we had them).

I think you need to check your facts. On a side note. Derby city is not a CSI event.

Ah, but that wouldn't be men's "pro" pool now, would it?

Sadly, justadub, you are right as usual. Among other issues that spring from this, I believe that this is detrimental to getting sponsorship from non pool related major brands.

Logic.................................................................................................................Cleary

Never the twain shall meet.

Why bother complaining?
This is how it always is in DP events. This is how it will always be.
Next tournament, you are going to have the 14.1 groupies, putting up large chunks of money for this event to go off because they love 14.1. That money is gonna get cut up with the minority of it going to the players prize fund and instead, who knows where, shady player dealings are gonna go down like they always do with tight groups of friends and every outsider or victim of it will be complaining about it again next time.

If you don't like it, start a 14.1 tournament and do it better.
Cause this ain't changing any time soon.

The irony is that if Charlie Williams hadn't trashed Mike on Facebook, Mike probably wouldn't have said anything about why he dropped out.

Sounds oversimplified. It's $3 if you let me kiss your girlfriend, $15 if not.

I can assure you of this, Mike is not broke. He's not even close to broke.

This is only speculation, but from what I've seen and heard here and at snookers makes me want to ask you what is your definition of broke?

If he's not broke,,,, why not just put yourself in?

Also, what is the buy in? Must be in the thousands;)

Uuhhhhhhhhhhh, ok?!? Reread your statement,,, tomorrow! You can fix it then:)

He withdrew because of a seeding issue. Was told he was seeded #3 and found out they moved him to #15 or something like that.

What are your thoughts? I understand why he withdrew but I mean, sitting out isn't going to put the brakes on the tournament. Why not stay in?

shows his lack of class

without recorded conversations or a neutral witness, we will never know the truth, each one has his own version of the story...

Maybe. But just look at the tone of Mike's post on Facebook vs CW's posts on Facebook and AZ. Mike posts a short message with a simple explanation of what he considers the facts. CW replies on Facebook with a long, mean spirited, personal attack.

That right there should tell you something about the character of the individuals involved.
