Mosconi Cup Appreciation Thread

There's just nothing else like it. My hat's off to all the players and captains. There's so much heart they put in.

All the sh1t talking, rowdy crowd, facebooking, posturing, posting - I really think it's all in good spirit. Anyone that has taken it too personal should chill IMO. It's war baby! The players handled themselves magnificently and I'm proud of every one of them - both sides.

And a very special tip of the hat to Matchroom Sports. They bring it, every year!

Congrat's to Europe, we'll cya next time!

What do you appreciate about the M Cup?

The in-your-face atmosphere, nothing else like it anywhere. Closest I can relate is a weekend bar scene where players will fight at the drop of a hat over any part of the game.

I enjoy the format with short races and all the intensity playing for your country that the Mosconi Cup brings out once a year. I also agree that most of the badgering is in good jest and adds to the excitement. Heck it's almost as exciting as "The Border Battle" :-)

Thanks Matchroom Sports.

Great event. Thanks Matchroom Sports. I say it every year; why do we not use this format in US for some great events. Race to 5, 6, or 7, 4 with named teams (like the New Yorker's) and team shirts. Sorry, got off subject. The Mosconi Cup is my favorite pool event all year. DCC is second with US Open and Turning Stone next. Of course TAR rules with their ppv action pit. Johnnyt

Even though we lost, I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.

I was impressed with the crowd over there. They applauded both team's introductions, cheered when they should and were quiet while play was going on. It looked and sounded like a fantastic atmosphere to play in.

On a side note, I'm not sure either team is significantly better than the other. Team Europe certainly earned the victory, but I would bet that if they played 100 neutral site matches, it would come out pretty even.

Any opinions on who Europe's capt would've picked for the 19th match if it got that far?

This is perhaps the greatest pool event because of the reasons expressed often on this site. However, what I would like to know is why this event was not just intended to be a live stream first and foremost. This is the first Mosconi cup I watched avidly. All the others from ESPN I just watched because they were on and I happened to be bored at the time. I never even stuck around to watch the conclusion of those.

Internet streaming could well be the future. Why not just prepare more for that? Watching ANY replayed event holds little interest to me.

With Ralf hurting, Capt probably goes with Appleton or Immonen. You could've also made a case for Van den Berg.

you said it.

What do you appreciate about the M Cup?

1. Matchroom Sports...always first class with everything.

2. Players....for all they do.

3. LOVE the shot clock!!!

It sure adds another dimension to the game. Much more exciting to watch. Should be in all tournaments.

There is not enough time for me to write everything that I liked about this event, but I will touch on a few things.

1. Being able to watch a crystal clear stream for free is awesome.
2. Camera angles to show us exactly what the players see, I still am not sure how they pull this off.
3. Seeing the emotion so clearly in the players faces (yes even yours Ralf:))
4. Being able to see the fans that are in attendance.
5. York Hall is nothing like I have ever seen, very cool.
6. The commentators were great...all of them. But Jay is a class act.
7. The level of play. What can you say, some of the best I have ever watched.
8. Michaela and Nigel were great, they did there jobs and were very much fun to watch.
9. The interviews with .....the guy with the hair:p. He was on the players so fast the were still rattled from the match.
10. The pictures from the web sites that Fruehlein posted for us and the info from Matchroompool.com. I also loved the highlight clip at the end of each day. Amazing.

I got so into the match that I was looking to see when the event is being held next year. This has got to be an event to see live !!! It was a valiant effort by Team USA but they fell to some awesome players.

Mosconi Cup has to be the most exciting event in pool throughout the entire world year after year !

It has to be a big plus to celebrate on your home turf ! So I hope the the home team wins at least every other year starting next year ! hehe

If the home team wins evey year USA will still maintain the big lead they have in the series that they built in the early years.

I liked almost everything about this event and had tremendous fun watching it. One aspect I'll call out that I haven't heard anyone else comment on was the level of sportsmanship by the local partisan crowd. You could tell by the volume of applause at the introductions that there were not very many U.S. fans in attendance. However, whenever one of the U.S. players pulled off an excellent shot, even if it was a pinpoint lock-up safety, there was loud appreciative applause. It was clear to me that the local crowd was pulling for Europe, of course, but they enjoyed stellar play by any of the players, U.S. included, and did not begrudge any success by the U.S. team. Those fans were boisterous and partisan, but I respected them.

Mosconi Cup

The Mosconi Cup was awesome, congrat's to Team Europe for the win & Team USA for giving their all!, I really enjoyed the stellar play from both teams.

The USA should consider letting the crowds living things up at their tournaments, I like people hollering, jumping up and down, and shaking banners and such, it really gets the spirit of the tournament and moment going!

BINGO. If you take the rowdy crowd out of the game then you have a pool tournament instead of the Mosconi cup. How many times have we fallen asleep while watching pool on TV or the web, I for one could not have nodded off if my life depended on it during this contest.

I did not notice all the costumes and wigs that the fans used to wear in the past. Hmmmmm maybe they weren't costumes and wigs after all:p.
