MY VARNEY NIGHTMARE unbelievable

I have been out of the country for a bit and just got back in last week. It took me a couple of days to work my way through this thread. Good points both ways.
However, my dealings with KV have always been above board. I called him and asked him to build me a cue with leather wrap and an ivory joint, we talked for an hour. He told me straight away that he was animal friendly and would not make the cue I wanted, but discussed balance pointes, tips, wood quality, and wrap vs wrapless. For this I respect him. He was not just after my money but me be satisfied with the final product. I also have a great regard for Mr. Wheat which I have contacted once and thinking out exactly what I want in a cue from him after our discussion. Both were very informed and straight forward with me. I am going to give myself a Christmas gift of one of Mr. Wheat’s cues.
In the mean time I have had the pleasure of playing with a cue that KV made (a friend of mine has one) and was very pleased with the balance and the hit. I am going to order one when this thing blows over or even if it does not, shucks man it is my money and I can spend it on what I think is a quality product if I want. I am in neither camp on this, and yes I get the point of the thread, but I think it has been carried to extremes on both sides. But with my previous experience I do not have any problems making an order with KV. This is what the man does for a living and I like the end product.

Balanced and well spoken.....I'm glad your making INFORMED decisions.:)

I've been following this post and I just have to throw my thoughts in the ring.

Ribdoner, I'm sure he does good work. But IMO, in this situation, that point is irrelevant. It doesn't matter if we are talking about cue makers, butchers, bakers or candlestick makers here.

You get a time promised to you for a product, any product, you realize that there has to be some give and take in any time frame you are promised. Beyond that, with the time that's passed, any reasonable person has to believe there never was an intent to keep the original date and it was more of a standardized line offered to all.

I'd be seriously pissed off if this all happened to me, and like cincyman, a goodly majority of my anger would have absolutely nothing to do with the time frame, rather it has to do with the betrayal of a man to man good word and the continuation of the indifference to his concerns.

He'd have been better off saying I'm sorry I ended up in over my head and it's going to be much longer than I originally thought. Offered a refund, and been done with it. If the customer wanted to wait the additional time, so be it.

On a semi-related note, I've never owned a custom cue, can't justify spending the money on one, I do understand the folks who enjoy the uniqueness of these cues, but I can't understand how anyone, anytime could buy any cue stick without holding it, hitting a ball with it and just physically seeing it. I just don't get it.

I sure hope somehow there's a happy ending to all this.

Where's the other camp, and what other side?

Tell you what I'll do....I have a large group of my basic 4pt rosewood j/b's that are near complete. They are all going to the same man in Japan. I get $375 for these as fast as I can make them. Since you just bought a cue, I'll hook you up if you promise to: 1) never repeat this price or deal
2) swear you waited near 6 months
3) give me some good press here at AZB
If you hit my Paypal again tonight, I can reallocate one of those cues to you for $350 and I'll pay shipping. Since you just bought one cue, that'll give you a slight price break plus you skip the wait. I'll have these ready to ship within a couple weeks...they are ready to be cleared. If you want one then let me know what weight you'd like & I'll hand pick you a nice one. All have the brown phen collars.
Thanks
KV

So, KV collected full payment and deposits from dozens of people, then offer cues to random potential customers while those who paid are kept in the dark? This post says it all, thanks for sharing.

Not a nightmare Joe, most likely reality unless he comes on here with other than veiled threats.

Who needs to see the Pacquiao fight when you can read all 30+ pages of this?
This is more exciting than a balut-eating contest.

Hello Shortman, no one is complaining about Kevin's cues, and I am happy your transactions worked out very well. Communication is the key, and it sounds like you certainly had clear and open communication with Kevin, because like you said above ( I called him and asked him to build me a cue ) you had his pone number and could contact him.

The problem though Shortman is that you are a very very small minority here, because 99.9% of all members who have had dealings with Kevin do not have a phone number or the number they have is never answered because Kevin has caller ID and scans his calls.

If the shoe was on the other foot, and he had taken your money, and he would not answer your emails, or the phone I suspect you would also not have had a good transaction with Kevin.

Please I mean no disrespect to you, but like you have said you have read through the thread, but it appears that you missed this part in your read.

Have a very nice day!!!!!

C'mon Joe, look at it this way. If someone scammed you or stole something from you, or one of your buddies, like, lets say, a comedy bit, or something like that, wouldnt you want to keep it in the headlines to "out" this person until this person either remedied the problem or just went away?

YUKS!
I'd rather pay for a cue that'll never get delivered than eat that.

Wronged clients aside, the saddest part of this whole scenario is the reminder of how "internet life" has made it so easy for some folks to throw accountability out the window.

It doesn't take much imagination to guess how much of whats been said here would have played out in the face-to-face envirnoment of a pre-internet pool room...

If nothing else, I guess the internet can be credited with keeping the body count down. :)

bob

Well, you make a good point, but it's also true that this would not be getting "played out on the internet" if KV would communicate with Cincyman.

I referenced your name in my post ribdoner, my boo boo. I meant to reference shortman. I mistook your quote from him as your post.

Manwon said it pretty good ..
