Who still has the image of the cross-eyed guy examing the ballot for a hanging chad? I never knew what all the fuss was about, I can only recall knowing two Chads in my life and they both could have used hanging!

I had a $10.00 2x4 black case. I had 109 pool players names on it. Did not pay for a one. They were glad to sign it along with Mosconi, Caras Eddie Taylor,Tony Ellin, Bugs, Reyes,The Miz,Wennie Bennie, Boston Shorty, Cornbread Red, and all the New players.I beleive it is worth something cause someone heisted it. I know I would pay$$$$$ to get it back. LES

I generally try to stay positive about ideas and posts, but I do not know how else to answer this. I really think this is a REALLY bad idea. This type of idea exemplifies everything that is bad about sports. All about the money, and not about the love of the game, or good will between the fans and players. If a player told me that I had to pay for their autograph at a local event, they would lose my support and some level of respect instantly. I sympathize with the difficulty pro players have earning a living playing pool, however, this is a step backwards in the whole scheem of things. Please do not do this to pool!!!

They did make a set of cards for pool players in the 90's which I have . I had to get my own autographes. LES

I think the way Freddy has posed his idea has merit. It could be a win-win for all, the players and the pool enthusiasts. I agree with Billy Incardona that hearing some ways to make it happen in a positive way is a good thing.
Years ago, somebody came out with some pool player cards, much like the baseball cards that folks like to trade and collect.
Autographed pool player cards might be one direction to take this. Print a limited amount of cards, like -- oh, I don't know -- 250 for each player, kind of like a Limited Edition, and then have them autographed.
Who knows, someday these pool players card could be worth something to the pool enthusiast.

If they were sold with autographs on them, they could be collector items someday. What Freddy was intending to do was something similar, providing a product with the autograph on it. The project was to be initiated at his expense, I might add, up front.

If pool players weren't so accessible, this plan would be fine and dandy. But unlike the other pro sports, baseball,basketball, football, you can't just walk up to barry bonds, kobe bryant, tom bradey at any givin game. At the dcc you can walk up to almost any player, and start up a conversation about anything for 5 minutes.
A memorabilia booth is fine and dandy, but to have players deny autographs on their own free time is the only snag. When the tourny is going on, your plan might work, but as soon as that tourny closes down for the night, so should the autograph restrictions.

I doubt more than a handful of people in this thread have ever sold any autographed pool items on ebay, but I will say that I bet a majority of people in here that have been giving negative feedback, rarely go up to players asking for autographs. Usually most get a picture with the player instead.
Some folks do try to create a win-win situation, much like Freddy's concept.
At the Glass City Open, Keith McCready worked the Play the Pro table for charity, as did Buddy Hall and several other pro players. Anybody could challenge the pro for 5 bucks. If you beat him, then you got an autographed T-shirt. All proceeds went to charity.
When the children would challenge the table, they'd almost always win!
The promoters of the Glass City Open went out of their way to try to help the players with expenses. Some got extremely discounted hotel rooms for the week-long event, as an example, and some got their hotel stay FREE.
Keith, Buddy Hall, and a half a dozen other players were given $100 to sign a few cueballs for the promoter. This was a godsend to us, being on the road, trying to break even on expenses, i.e., entry fee, food, hotel, gas and travel, et cetera.
Mark Jarvis ran out of dough when he got knocked out of the tournament, and he didn't want to leave. It was the first time in a very long time that he had played in a professional event. The promoter got wind of Mark's dilemma and asked him if he'd participate in the Play the Pro table in the front lobby for a few hours. Mark was so happy to be asked, and he agreed. The promoter gave him a free hotel room for the remainder of the event.
Here's a shot of Keith's number-one fan in Toledo at the Glass City Open. It was a win-win for the players, the fans, and the promoters, having the T-shirts autographed.

Freddy made this post to see how his idea would go over with his target audience, yup we're the people it will effect, was told his idea basically stunk by everyone, and then basically said he didn't care what we thought and is going ahead with it anyway. If the idea fails, which I believe if it will, then he deserves whatever monetary loss this will bring him.
If I were going to try to make money off of my fellow AZ'ers and pool enthusiasts by making them pay for something that has been free since pool has existed.... I wouldn't disguise my intentions by saying that it's to help all the poor struggling pool players out there.
