Well, Dick
how about providing some facts to back your statement.

Shame - I was really looking forward to DICKS response.

Jim...One reason I can think of, is that an individual can purchase a Diamond table, direct from the manufacturer, for only slightly more than a "Diamond dealer" can buy it for. Now you, as the individual, still have to deal with freight and set up, but it is not commensurate with what a Diamond costs from one of the few dealers that are out there. Who would want to be a dealer, and have 10's of thousands of $$$ tied up in inventory? Not me!:D This is something I've never understood about Diamond (although I personally LIKE it!:D). No other table manufacturer allows the public to buy direct from the factory.

I am quite frankly shocked that Diamond or any other table manufacturer wouldn't have a regional dealer network staffed with FACTORY TRAINED table mechanics.

We don't know how their business operates. We don't know what sort of storage facilities they have, what sort of stock they build up (if any). They well could be doing build-to-order - i.e. they get an order, they build the table(s), and simply not have tables all built, packed, ready-to-go.

Very true but let's speculate that Smart Tables are made to stock (ala Valley) and the rest of the line is made to order.
I'd also speculate that a certain number of Pro and ProAm tables are also made to stock
From most of Glens posts this seems to be mostly what he works with.

A regional warehouse becomes an expense but if the profit from more tables sold/delivered is at least break even then it
may be justifiable. But like you stated, we are not privy to diamonds operation.

I will respond to you... Apparently you are pro-Glen in the scheme of things, which also means you lack the capacity to absorb just how bad
this is going to hurt Glen (and your credibility).

Adios, and good luck trying to make it in the real world!!!!

Perhaps he just likes to drive or view the country's scenery or be a table techician or be on his own as his own boss. As the Japanese colonel said in The Bridge On The River Kwai, "be happy in your work."

Doug
( OR, perhaps he is simply a truck driving, roadside hitchhiker serial murderer living in a box truck down by the river ) :)

Actually I'm not pro-anything - just call it as I see it.
Doesn't mean I'm always right but I don't spout statements I can't back up.

You made a statement with reference to Diamond Billiards
("You are dissing someone who has done more for the game of pool than anyone in this century. Dick!!!!")
and when called on to back it up you have not responded. Let's not talk credibility until you do.

Obviously you don't know who SJD is.

I have worked on tables for close to twenty years. I thought i knew everything, then i met glen. Glen has taken our profession to a higher level
that the industry has not seen before. He expects perfection out of himself
as well as those who employ him. He is not making irrational demands, just equipment that functions properly to get the job done.

It is hard to judge a person behind a keyboard, for those who have never spoken with glen, i can honestly tell you he is one of the nicest guy you will find. It is very difficult to have a job which you absolutely love, then realize you cannot because of the rising costs of everything!

As far as posting this resignation on a public forum, probaly not what most of us would do, but that was the sound of someone living in a box truck snapping!

You should've staked me against Jamie....

I want him and Fatboy to have a spelling bee and I'm staking SmorgassBored even if Fatboy is putting on on a bit. :D

JoeyA (doesn't stake anyone but will go out on a limb).

Joey, you should;ve staked me against Jamie, I think I ended up on the top of it by the time we stopped playing pool and started playing guitar. Have you talked to him at all since then???????

No one on here has figured the size truck you need to handle the weight of the tables and the oversived dimensions of the table, you cant stack them ontop only side ways.

So if they are 10' long 2' wide 5' tall turned on thier side weigh 1,300lbs into a 17 foot truck holding roughly 8,000lbswhich would equal to 6 tables by weight and but by size no can fit truck less then 8' wide 17 long.you use the fist 6 feet for tools and in are to relax in holding 4 tables in the truck.. Now comes into play a 20' 3 axle trailer that holds lets say 20,000 lbs now the combination of weight and length get you close to needing a cdl, but for agueement saks we stay under all the restriction so we dont have to incure extra expenses.you squeeze in another 8 tables onto the trailer.

You have 12 tables lets say 600 miles per delivery 7200 miles @ .50 cents a mile thats $3,600 in fuel insurance wear and tear on the vehicle. Sub pays $300 per install. Its also 12 days of driving 12 days of installs plus 24 days of hoel rooms @ $100 a night. Plus another $1000 in food and another $500 in other expense clothes medicine.. you get it ....

gross from install and delivery no tickets....+$7,200
minus fuel.............................................-$2,000
minus hotel...........................................-$2,400
minus food ...........................................-$1,000
minus misc..clothes bandaids tickets..........-$500
you have grand total of...........................$1,300 profit

you still have 7 days left in the month to do more tables for Diamond or local people wanting work or pick up a table in a different state then your in just to make more cash. So if you do the math

30 days = 720 hrs in a month
minus...... 132 hrs of driving deliveries
minus ..... 96 hrs of installs
minus ..... 240 hrs for sleep
minus ..... 90 hrs for meals
minus ..... 10 hrs misc potty break
totals ..... 568 hrs of work to be customer friendly for the love of pool.

for a grand total of lets 24 days 676 hrs to make $1300 profit and have 7 days to relax or cram in more work to get the broken truck fixed.now divide the hrs into the profit. Who wants to sign up or step up ?

Fast times @ Ridgemont high Mr. Hand once said ANYONE ANYONE?????

I have a 16' trailer 5,500 lbs load with a lathe, workbench, ball polisher, hamock and a few things in stock so I can be a full service technictian. I have an f150 gas and an f250 deisel and I have been trying to do the same thing I currently have to many bills to be on the road that much if I still lived with Mom & Dad I would be on the road in a heart beat with hardly any overhead ie bills just what incure on the road.

In my set up I can only deal with 3-4 tables @ a time unless they are import's 7'-8' less weight might be able to squeeze in 1 or 2 more by weight not by size. As for Diamond table I coiuld only handle 3 tables by size and weight. I could do it that would almost be a $1,000 prohit on three table if close by here on the west coast ie 1,500 mile radius would probably be my max unless jobs are close together but if one is in oregon next san clameta ca then utah forget unless i can doit in a smooth arc or circle with out having to crisscross the west coast 2x or 3x the miles..

How many people are losing thier houses and jobs and want to buy lets say $5000.00 + table + another $1000-1500 setup and delivery fee on top,
Remember fuel gas and deisel should be @ $5.00 by summer. so whats that a safe 3%= month in cost that needs to obsorbed each month with out passing it on oopps that would be less profit to pay my bills.

If i say anything more the so called railbirds might want to give me negtive points for crunching numbers they didnt think of.

I probably said to much but I said it and stand by it.

If you have something constructive to say have at it.
The only things I have to say to you right now are destructive so I will refrain from saying anything else. I just want you to think really long and hard about the phrase "I could care less". :) Have a good day and I hope you don't get a headache :)

Sir, I don't know you, and you don't know me. I don't know what it is that you expect me to back up. If you don't know what Greg, and Diamond, (and prior to that, the Jansco brothers) have done for cue sports, then you are not really into pool all that much. The two movies (The Hustler and T.C.O.M.) and the two parties I mentioned are the only reason you and I have a forum to discuss our differences. It is O.K. to feel passionate about your
convictions, but for God's sake man, don't blindly support the rantings of
of a man who obviously is unhappy with the hand he's been dealt in life !
I sincerely wish you and Glen the best, but if you only look for the worst,
that's probably what you'll wind up with. I think it was Fatty who coined
the phrase " If you can't be a winner, don't be a whiner". Good words to live by.

Good Luck,

Dick

P.S. In case you haven't noticed, Diamond (Greg) has not lowered himself to respond
to this totally out of line thread. I commend him for that.
