On The Road Again with Perfect Aim....

The Art of Managing Money

I understand Gene's point of view but I definitely do not need anywhere near the amount of sleep that he does, I know my body I need 7 hours maximum or I will go crazy, he needs 10 hours minimum to function. for the record I beat the guy out of $600.00 today. But if I had waited around he might not have even played me, sometimes you know when to go after a good score.

Now that you have a bona fide decent score and are on the plus side.

Let's see how you manage that $600. Managing money is the key to success in just about anything.

JoeyA's advice: "Get ahead, stay ahead".

The score was $400. She dropped $200 the first day.

Ahhhh....Hello....we are talking about pool players here.

We only clearly remember the wins. The losses are a little more foggy.

"Yeah, he beat me the other day out of a little bit, I don't remember how much really but I sure came back and drilled him the next week. I took him for four hundred and twenty-seven dollars and twenty-five cents. He left his last quarter under the rail and I grabbed it when he wasn't looking. AND I didn't miss a ball!"

You two should have separate gambling BR's. You've got $600...you should keep it and play with it...try to grow it into a couple thousand. Let Gene gamble on his own $$$. Split the expenses down the middle. Good luck to you. JMO

Mr. Gene...

You better be nice to Rhea sounds like she is holding her own. ;) I know at Brickyard she won all the money . She will get a lot more games than you do. Hey come on back north and plenty of games for ya'll when ya get a chance.

Be safe and have fun out there GENO!!

There was a happy ending to the day.........

But the whole day was a disaster as faras even coming close to doing things to give yourself the best chance to wi,

It turns out she did get enough sleep after being on the computer and waking me up early. She fell back to sleep. Woke back up at 2:00.

Then went down to the room and played some guy she had no chance to beat and lost $100. She told me this later. Her reasoning was she was testing herself. I went off on her telling her how stupid that sounds. I told her she could test herself with her own money on her own time.

I called down to the room not knowing this had already happened and told her to come pick me up. She told me the game she was waiting for was there and she was afraid that he would get in action with someone else. This probably isn't going to happen because these guys live here and all the local action is very old and predictable. Plus there is always tomorrow.

She came back to the room all hyped up saying we got to get back there right now. I'm finishing up my meal and getting some clothes out of the dryer. I know these guys are not going anywhere. They think they have a fish on the hook and they might if they can totally run her show.

We argued on the way down and finally she told me now I probably won't play well because of the arguing. I told her fine, we can play tomorrow. i'm not too excited about this anyway right now.

They played in the smoking section so i stayed out in the non smoking part. After about an hour i went in there to see what was going on. They were playing now for $200 a rack. The good news was the guy she was playing was noticably drunk and ordering more drinks. I watched 2 games and he couldn't get out at all.

She won that game and then won the next. .Didn't miss a ball and ran out both times. His partner came over and stopped the game.

So much for their reps as being go offs. As soon as they saw they couldn't win they pulled up but I would have too if i saw my guy was drunk. Glad she got the $600.

So being stuck $200 by them a couple of days ago and losing the $100 to the guy earlier she was $300 ahead. Figure in the table time and we're down to $275.

We've all heard the old line, even a blind squirrel find an acorn every once in a while.

Today they are supposed to play at 5:00. I'm sure they will still be drinking but not to get drunk. Rhea showed that she can play some and make some balls. They got the $200 bet that they think they can win with sober. I understand the reality of the whole situation.

The best senario is that they get drunk again and lose a little bit more. With them pulling up as fast as they did i can't see them losing $1000 or more for sure.

Rhea will have to come out with both barrels blazing if she wants to get the cash and keep the small amount she is ahead.

I think this guy is going to play farly good today. i watched his stroke and shape on his shots even though he was drunk. He can play some.

Can he get the cash? I guess we will find that out tonight.

I will be there and I will be watching even in the smoking section.

My eye's, throat and lungs burn today from the 30 minutes I was in there yesterday. But it might be also from the accumulation from the smoke sifting into the no smoking section over the last 2 weeks.

Being on the road you can get lucky and win a little and do everything wrong. But in the long run, wrong will get you busted.

If you don't learn from your mistakes your in even bigger trouble.

I know one thing for sure. I will not let her gamble with anyone unless I'm right there from now on.

These guys are playing 200 a game 9 ball? You think it's a tough game and you think they won't blow more than 5 games? You are also going to risk your lungs by watching in smoking section? I can't wait to hear how this one turns out

Good Luck to the Both of you!!

This is a great soap opera. Thanks for all the free entertainment you two. We are living on the road vicariously through you.

This might be worse than a soap opera. Rhea is bragging about winning $600 while forgetting to tell us her opponent was punch drunk. :rotflmao1:

Spent several hours with Geno Sunday night after we had finished the arena tear down.... Was too tired to hit balls but he worked thru some of his stuff with Bill Gibbs while we chatted and as usual it all made sense......

I try not to steal Gene's thunder and had only talked to Bill about some generalities soooo getting to hear it from the horses mouth was good for him...

Watched Rhea hitting balls and it shouldn't be too long before she pushes thru to a new level... Her stroke is good and she is spending time on the table soo when she figures out what she needs to do to quit missing the balls she knows she should be making almost 100% of the time matching up will be a whole lot easier for her.. I think her address is a little loose and getting her to not be afraid of fouling the cueball when she is getting comfortable and executing her practice strokes would do away with some misses almost immediately as it will improve her accuracy on where she is hitting the cueball.. She was not in action so she may tighten up in play was just something I noticed while she was banging balls.....

Had Gene hit the soft Ki-Techs so if he wants to say anything that is entirely up to him....

If Gene is in your area or if you are like most of us and don't get to play everyday to stay in the right position you owe it to yourself to at least spend a few minutes with him... even if it's not about perfect aim Gene is always passionate and friendly and above all entertaining.....

Good luck out there Gene... Will catch you at DCC if not sooner....

What did you do back when you could smoke everywhere ?

When i was younger my body handled it better..............

What did you do back when you could smoke everywhere ?

With the cigs your body keeps building up these carcinigens. Just like a sponge the chemicals build up.

Many of them will be in your body forever. it just can't rid itself from the destructive chemicals that these cigerettes create.

I quit playing in 1999 because I couldn't be in the smoke anymore. I was diabetic also at that time but didn't know it.

If you have anything wrong with you like diabetes your immune system is already fighting something already. Add the smoke and it's just too much to fight.

Most of my pool playing friends from back in the day are dead. Smoke was the culprit.

The stats are all there on the internet what this smoke is doing to ones body and health.

170,000 deaths a year from . 49,000 are from second hand smoke.

Not counting the 5 million people that got cured from cancer by removing a lung or under going intense chemo.

This alone can destroy ones life if not forever, for sure one to 5 years.

I got a wakeup call myself about 10 months ago. I have 2 spots on my left lung. After the car accident 4 monthsa later they were allot smaller and lighter but still there.

If it is cancer it is on hold. I eat a very rigid vegetable diet with some chicken. I exercise and try to stay away from the smoke.

Just from being in Q Master non smoking section I'm getting sick from the smoke that travels through the open door from one section and the broken windows from the other smoking section. I'm really glad they have the non smoking section because without it it would be unbearable for me. .

Smoke is smoke whether it is just a little or allot.

Then wait until you hit 50 my friend and your body is over loaded with all these chemicals or your immune system is not in full gear anymore. And it gets worse the older you get.

I'm alive so i can complain about it. My friends are all dead. Dead people don't complain. That's why the cig companies and the places that have this smoke are allowed to keep this practice of allowing smoke and destroying peoples health.

I tried going to a few tournys at smoking places in 2009 and 2010. I got so sick for a week. It was horrible.

Bottom line is we would all be so much better without the smoke.

We all need to keep our health.

Got to go. i need to go breath in some more smoke chasing some money.

Pretty sad.

I just want to live...........and enjoy as much pool and people as I can.;)

Given your age Gene exposure to asbestos may be the culprit of your lung and breathing problems, not smoke or second hand smoke. Not saying smoke, or second hand smoke is good for anyone but you have a one of the most acute aversions to smoke I have ever heard of... Did you ever do construction work?

True stuff: I heard lawyers advertising this on the telly.

Mesothelioma pays dividends to those who have it.

Was disappointed lasst night but had some fun.......

There was not much going on at Q Masters last night so I decided to brave the smoke and play in the handicap 9 ball tourny in the smoking part of the poolhall. This is one reason that I don't go to the smoking states because it's like holdong a peice of candy in front of a kid and say he can't eat it.

A pool tourny right there for a pool player.

Rhea was already in it and i went in and gave them my $15.

I told the guy running the tourny that he shoukl just make me a triple A+. That's the highest rating in the tourny so nobody would complain. He agreed and had no problem with that.

After losing my third match to Tony, a great player at the age of 67, I started to bear down and won match after match. Many of them 5-0. I got to play one match even and won that 5-3.

An old guy Buck won the winners side and the guy running the tourny told him he could just split with whoever came up through the losers and just take $115 instead of $130. he readily agreed to this. He didn't play that well and was pretty happy not to play the final match.

Then I kept working my way through the losers and i got to play Tony again. Before the match Tony wanted to just split the money between the 3 of us that were left. 2nd place was $100. 3rd was $70 and I think 4th was $50. Because first bowed out with $115 instead of $130 that put $15 more for second and made it $115 instead of $100.

So it was like $115, $70, and $50. it would have been $235 divided 3 ways, about 78 apiece.

I came there to play the game not split any money. the guy that took the $115 for first was there until closing. He would have been happy to play at the end. he had nothing else to do. he came there for the fun.

I told Tony I wanted to play. He said OK.

I went to play the next guy and he said,I'm splitting after waiting this long. Kind of a rediculous statement but he made it pretty clear that it was going to be only one way.
I thought to myself, Whatever. So we just split the measly $$195 that was left for 2nd and third.

I came there to have some fun and play. Everyone there came to play and try to win. If it was all about the money why even come. there's not that much to worry about.

I was playing pretty good and hit a high gear. i guess if i was on the sidelines watching I can see why they wanted to split instead of play.

I like to play in these tournys to try and get ready for the bigger ones.

Wouldn't it have been cool if Shane and the guy he played in the US Open just split 1st and second. Or the last 4 places, like in this small tourny just split 1st, 2nd ,3rd, and 4th.

To me this isn't why we play the game at any level. Why don't we just split when the field gets down to half. Doesn't make much sense.

And you can cross off the reason that someone had to get to work tomorrow. I doubt anyone at the end had that problem.

I was disappointed but glad i got to play as much as I did.

I struggled to breath last night and my nose is raw inside. Every time I swallow I feel like something is stuck in my throat and it is kind of harder to breath in a breath. Took about 3 hours to get to sleep. Chest hurts a little.

This will go on for about 3 to 4 days.

High price to pay to have a little fun.

Gene, from experience - it's not worth $195, to risk your health & future income due to said. sometimes you have to walk away.

Gene,

Eating your veggies with chicken won't prevent cancer from progressing. I hope you're not taking that "warning call" about those spots for granted. Those spots need to be monitored for progression with CT scans at least every six months.

You need to try harder to stay away from the smoke. Just writing about it isn't going to do it.
