Once again Earl shows his lack of class, what a disgrace

I don't know if Earl has a mental health diagnosis and if he does I don't know what it is. I don't know if he takes meds or what they are so the effect of those meds cannot be predicted. It may be that proper meds would increase his ability to play well, that would depend on the condition and the meds.

I do know that he often acts immaturily and is guilty of letting his emotions often rule his actions. That's what emotionally immaturity is. He's unstable, often rude and anti-social. I would not want him, or anyone who does not control their emotions, acting in behalf of me in any personal or business situation.

For not knowing.....sounds like you just diagnosed him, Dr. Jim.

I somehow think he wouldn't be happy working for you anyway.

If Pool had RULES of Conduct, Players were required to follow like GOLF this thread would have been titled something like Earl got booted again for unsportsman like conduct.

But then Pool don't have such rules, so Earl, and others get away with antics, and give pool a bad image.

We have a Code Of Conduct-It's a sticky up top wasting cyber space.

Just read another thread where Archer snapped his cue in half. Now I'm waiting for the thread on how he should be kicked out of the HOF for being such a disgrace to the sport, and kicked off the Mosconi Cup team.

Or, was this just another bash Earl thread for no real reason???

yep just another bash earl thread, its silly to me that when earl is livid about how he feels the game is going to s**t and you can see how it affects his demeanor. Like his jump cue comments and the soft break, people don't ever really strongly debate those TRUE facts that Earl speaks of and is disgusted by, but the love love love to bash him for his attitude....an attitude spawned from the bastardization of the sport with hokey equipment and the like.

I don't condone his actions, but i don't blame him for being pissed....at least someone in the spotlight is opening their mouths about how stupid this dumbing down of the sport is.

Earl's the shit. And you want him to play it out??? Pool isnt golf, baseball or any other pro sport. When charlie needs one game and has ball in hand...its over folks. In pool, "playing it out" in this situation means sitting there watching charlie run out. Shitty feeling we all know, then times it by 100 cuz its the US open and your about to be going home. Yeah he could miss, but Earl doesn't want to win that way anyways and respects Charlie enough to kno it was already over.

So he raked the balls and didn't think he was worthy of applause after he missed a shot. The guy is harder on himself than any of you ppl, and thats saying something.

Earl

Earl brings alot a things to the game, some may not like it, so what .If Earl had Efrens attitude he would proably be banned from all events even the pro.s.I dont think he would ever lose. There are alot of good players out there, fewer great players and Earl is
one of the greats .Always will be.Does it make it right the way he acts?
No and i dont care ,until you have walked in someone else shoes dont be the judge.

Hey Neil, I was there with Tony Robles when this happen. Johnny was playing Tony. I beleive Johnny scratched or some kind of unforced error accured. JA placed his cue acroos his shoulders bent the stick all the way and snapped it. As Tony got up from the chair, I think he tried to consoul JA but that didnt work out to good. LOL

Different time, he supposedly JUST snapped his cue in the US Open against Kim Davenport. You are correct though, he has done it before, this is not the first time.

that tells me he cares about how he plays....GO ARCHER!

Remember Bo Jackson used to break his bat
Mike Tyson bit an ear

BECAUSE THEY CARED LOL

When Earl starts biting peoples ears off, then its time to worry, until then, its just Earl being Earl. I had my hopes up high for him this time around tho.

I tend to agree with Mikey on this one. Not offereing up any excuses for Earl (he wouldnt feel like he needs one) and I know he has done things in poor taste before. Raking the balls is a concession, and sometimes a sign of respect. Would most of us do it? Hell no. But we are not Earl and most of us dont know what its like to compete at that level.

As far as covering his ears, who knows. The crowd is clapping to congarulate him on a nice run. He doesnt care at all about a run, he wants to WIN the freakin tourney! He was in the best playing condition he has been in for years, in a tournament that probably means more to him than any other. And he was just put out. It doesnt really surprise me that he wouldnt feel like having people clap for him right then.

Not saying he is right or wrong. But he is judged harder than any other player because he speaks his mind and does what he feels without careing what anyone else thinks.
Well Said!!! Cudos To You!!! Earl is a LEGEND and should be RESPECTED!!!

Was Charlie slow playing and getting up and down on each shot 20 times?

After about 2 minutes of that I get the sudden urge to rake balls. ;)

I was there for 3 of his matches and this is what I have to say about Earl.

He played really good and talked to the crowd when the guy was racking... People in the crowd decided it would be good to tell him to stop crying etc. He is putting on a show and these clowns should be mimes and say nothing.

That totally changed Earl's mood!!! He got angry and talked way more about any and everything.

Some are saying he is a poor sport, well, I watched him win the second game of a set, mark his game and then looked up at the scoreboard... 1-0 for him and should have been 1-1. He told the guy he didn't mark his score so he would put it up for him... I didn't see another player there do that! After seeing this, I think Earl is looking to beat his opponents not cheat them. Talking calms him and the crowd (some) talk bad and that sets him off. I thought he played the best pool there his first 2 matches and the crowd played a part in his decline.
Earl has a heart of GOLD!!!

We will never grow the sport if we continue to have our past champions act like a bunch of cry babies!!! Lets have an Earl vs. Grady "I feel so sorry for myself because I am past my prime" challenge match!
Earl would Drill Grady!!! I would bet on this any DAY!!!

I met with Earl and John Schmidt right after his match. I know I am a little biased here and I don't like what he did but he has some reasons for the way he acted. First he said he raked the balls because Charlie is a greatplayer (a sign of respect that it was over) He covered his ears because he said "I don't deserve the fans clapping for me" And finally someone said earlier in this post "he don't care about the fans" You are so wrong on that one. The point he was most upset about was people soft breaking and saftey breaking. He said he hates that and he could do it too but its bad for the fans. They want to see action. He saids they deserve to see good pool when you smash the balls open. He added, if I was watching a guy soft or saftey break as a fan I would get on then to hit the ball. I know its tactics and that may be how to win a rack and maybe thats what he should be focused on, he is old school. Just reporting what was said.
Just like tennis and other sports... You care and live for the game for most or all of your life, If you play bad then you are upset with yourself and know that you could or should have played better or maybe the "Pool Gods" were not on your side. Earl is the last of a dying American Pool Player Generation who actually cares about the game and his skills! I am a Fine-Dining Chef, I am friends with Earl and we think alike! When I was a young apprentice, One of my first, Mentor chefs told me... "You are only as good as your last service and if you strive for perfection and attention to detail... It may be un-reachable to most people at 200% BAR, But it is higher than most people trying to reach 100%... Is this method obtainable? I think it is up to the individual. With all of that being said... I respect Earl and he is hard on HIMSELF if he doesn't reach his perfection or personal goals (Like Me). Some of us are cursed with being a perfectionest, In which I think is a great trait!!! Go Earl!!!

i tataly agree with this ,

No Charlie wasn't playing like that, you must be thinking of Archer and Davenport match.

or heaven forbid, the guy who may have a bet down on him.

Who would want to bet for Strickland?? If you do, then thats their risk. He owes them chit. If you are crazy enough to bet on earl then you deserve to watch him go nuts as usual and forfeit or some other crazy chit like that. I feel no pity for him.

Perhaps he is judged more harshly than other players because he consistently behaves worse than they do...combined?

Good question

Does anyone know who earl likes to play? or who he hates playing? I'm not excusing earls behavior, but maybe charlie williams sets him off more than anyone else. I have no idea what their ringside chemistry is like.

I'm REAL LATE into this thread but wow, some of the best and worst posts I can remember in a long while. (dsearcy, yours was not a bad one)

Earl has a great deal of respect for and plays well with Buddy Hall, Shannon Daulton, Nick Varner, Allen Hopkins, Keith McCready, Jim Rempe, Kim Davenport, etc. Most of the guys from "his era". Believe it or not, he's on good terms with Oliver Ortmann.

Earl has had a feud with Corey in the past that's since been patched up nicely and they're golfing buds. He was at Archer's wedding to Melanie, as a groomsman.

He had a long standing battle with Charlie Williams that started over a patch that Earl took off and Charlie, as the head honcho of his own pool tour, banned him. CW also banned Corey Deuel and they'e still not exchanging Christmas cards.

Earl has had tiffs with John Schmidt, but I have no idea how they get on nowadays. Earl does not like Souquet, Peach, Immonen or Neils Feijen. Most probably because of the Mosconi Cup encounters.

And every other pro player has some peers he likes and some he does not like. Just like all us guys here...some members we like, some we don't.

Most every sport is the same. And classroom. And workplace.
