Hello all,

First of all, please let me make things clear: this cue does not belong to me, the owner of it is Eric / Fatboy.

I believe that this is - or one of - the most unique Szamboti cues ever, I am sure Eric will shed some light on its story, I know it but would rather let him tell it, I don't want to misrepresent it in any ways.

What I can tell for sure is that Gus has not built too many rosewood on rosewood on cues and that all by itself should be enough to make this cue unique but there is a lot more beyond.

Here are the pictures:

GSB ....That one of the cues Gus was working on when he passed and Barry finished ?

<----sure there is more to the story

I've wanted to see pictures of Fatboys cues since I first heard him talk about them. Excellent start, albeit hard to top, to what I hope will be the first of many to follow. Thanks for sharing.

Hey

Eric, that cue is magnificent. You have one cue that Gus and Barry both worked on....talk about an historical cue

Thankd Steve and everyone: I'm short on time so i copied and pasted what i wrote to David who posted the pics(because i'm too lame and dont know how to post/resize pics) Thanks for posting them buddy.

This is a Hopie stryle GSB, It was started by Gus Szam and finished by Barry Szam. Its rose wood on rose wood. the wood is amazing but my camera dosent really pick that up, I will send you all the pics I took, Start a new thread in the Cue gallery forum, its without a doubt the best Hopie cue I have ever seen, it plays better than it looks, and I do play with it some, not alot but a hour now and then. It is my favorite cue in my collection, because my 2 favorite cue makers worked on it, because it plays good, I love the propellors, the wood, the balance of inlay work on the but and points, the chain link ringwork, no bumper.

Rosewood/rosewood cues play great I think better than maple. there is not one flaw in this cue. there is no finish on the black ring at the bottom of the cue so it wont chip like some bumperless cues do and the bottom edge of that black ring isnt sharp so it wont dent and leave a flat looking spot, the way its built it dosent need a bumper and there is no chance of damaging the butt of the cue.

this is with out a doubt my overall favorite cue I own, some I own have more senemntal value or cost more, that is meaningless to me, this cue is #1.

I will add more to this, later today. One quick thing is this cue does get used, and it plays as good as any cue i have ever hit balls with, infact it would be my daily player if I could travel with it. One nite Max Eberly and I played a couple hour session with it, we shared it. He loved the hit too. Everything about this cue makes it my #1 all time cue if any cue I have ever seen or own. I dont think I will ever see a cue that topps this in my mind, the Bushka/Gus that Mr. Paul (cant remember his last name:embarrassed2:) posted up here a while is a close second. But like I said before cues arent a contest anyways-I just love this cue to death and its history.

thanks Eric.

PS I let anyone hit balls with this cue that can play, no bangers allowed but any solid player is welcome to use this cue.

David,

Did I send you the pic of the bottom(butt screw), If I did post it up please,

Someday I'm going to get a photographer to shoot some of my cues

Just ship it to me, I'll hit some balls with it and send it back to you when I am done.

Hey Eric,
Your correct when saying this Rosewood GSB hits as good as any.. I played with it and have to agree..
Take good care of that monster..

Glad it didnt work out. ;) Just kidding. Kinda, I really love this cue. I'm not being disrepsctful Jeff so please dont take it that way. I was just in the right place at the right time to be able to buy it. I wouldnt take $50,000 for it. To me there isnt a number on this cue-but thats me, in the market it would have a number(i'd guess $25-$30K-i dont really know), but this cue wont be on the market until something real bad happens-I die. To me this cue and a few other other ones I own have no number on them, this one is at the top of that list.

It is my favorite cue(did i mention that??;)), propellors are my favorite, not to much or too little inlays(so its still a player) what cues are for in the first place, The wood is real pretty(my camera sucks-i used a iPhone for the pics). The history and the fact it plays so good is what makes it my favorite cue.

The big loaded up monster cues are great, like the new Boar Steve just got with 800 inlays, Or a loaded up 8pt Gus. Those cues are in a differert class to me, its like compairing a moterhome to a Ferrari to a Mac truck. You really cant compair them, they all do the same thing but in a different way. So I have my favorite Super fancy cues, historical cues, Champions cues(like a cue Mosconi owned etc), real old cues etc. So in all the different catagorys I have a favorite cue-like a cue my dad gave me. So if I take all my favorite cues (weather I own them or not) out of each catagory(historical, fanct, expensive, player etc.) this cue is my pick of them all. Like "best of show" kinda thing.

I'm just lucky to own this cue thats all. Beyond lucky. Alot of things had to line up just right in my life to be blessed enough to have this cue. I knew that the second I saw it. The seller left some $$$ on the table-he is reading this so I have to bust his balls ;). thanks man!!!!

There is another cue out there that I am in love with is Ed Kellys box cue, the Ginacue. Will Prout is taking carre of that cue currently;). And the Bushka with a Gus foream Mr. Paul (i still cant remember his last name:o) has is up there too. I will probably never own those cues but thats ok, as long as I know where they are at and can see them its ok with me. I dont have to own a cue to enjoy it-unless I want to play with it, and those 2 cues I doubt I'd play with.

thanks again everyone. I'm not big on posting pics of my cues-I mentioned this cue like a year ago in a thread talking about how thick/thin hoppie rings should be, I was going to post it then. Give me a few months and I'll come with a different historical cue, Jeff knows what i'm talking about.

gotta get work
