Open Offer to Danny Harriman and John Schmidt from TAR

I like both those suggestions. The issue is will they sell what Danny/John would. The numbers here were based on the fact we had a legit shot at out outrunning the nut.

I honestly dont know if another all around would or could do similar numbers. We can certainly think about it and make an offer though and see what the guys say.

That is true. That's definitely an unmatched hatred.

I honestly have a lot of hesitation after his response and here is why.

Danny has no skin in the game. If he changes his mind and accepts and we promote this I have no guarantee that the day before the match he wont feel like I or someone else insulted him and decide his pride has been hurt so to show us how we disrespected him he decides not to get on the airplane.

It's evident Danny already feels that I did something to him. I think it would be foolish at this point to gamble a lot of time, money and effort hoping I don't cross some invisible unknowable line of conduct with Danny. He brought up some post from two years ago saying that post meant he was charging more to play. I have no clue at all what hes talking about and will not spend my days worrying about if he's going to decide I disrespected him again somehow and deciding to teach me a lesson by no showing at the last minute.

If anyone doesnt see this as an actual contingency please convince me I am wrong.

I totally agree with you on this one. Even if somehow he changes his mind to do the TAR match, I don't think Danny is one of those reliable people. There is no guarantee that Danny won't wake up with one do those moods where he believes everyone is out to get him and just not show up to play on the day of.

It's better off not putting TAR's money behind Danny.

S.G.

Come On Danny

It was in the 1990's. I can't recall the exact year but I know I had just started messing around on the bar table down at the arcade. I was quickly playing better than all my friends and I thought I could play a little....

....well I'm flipping through the channels and what do I see on ESPN? They are playing some nine ball. It's Mike Sigel vs. Danny Harriman. This was the very first time I ever saw pool on TV. I was totally mesmerized. The commentators were explaining how good this Mike Sigel guy was and they were very impressed with the young guy too. So was I.

I don't remember all the details of the match but I do remember that I was really impressed with Danny's demeanor around the table. He left a lasting impression on me that day. This match took place nearly 20 years ago and I can still remember Danny lining up and firing in a cross corner bank shot.

This was the first time that I saw really good pool and it opened my eyes to what was possible on a pool table.

Anyway, what's my point? I don't know. I don't know the whole saga behind all of this. I don't know what Danny's motivations are. Maybe he feels like he has been slighted for one reason or another. Maybe he has. Maybe is hasn't. I have no clue. All I know is, opportunities like this don't come around very often. From the sounds of it, this may be Danny's last chance to play a TAR match.

So Danny - if you have it in you to play this match I think you should. Just the thought of seeing you play again brings a smile to my face. I'm not sure why that is, maybe it just brings back memories of a simpler time in my life. I don't know.

Danny - you are a pool player. Go play pool. I want to see you line up a cross corner bank shot and when it goes in, know that I will be chuckling to myself.

At any rate, I wish you the best and I hope to see you on TAR.

He is looking for excuses as usual, John is the bigger man, danny needs to grow a pair. Pathetic excuse and sad case of a pool player who no one likes, just shows why... Free money and has the cheek to ask for more, you want more Danny then win, it's as simple as that. Justin and Mark should wash there hands with him.

New t shirt line coming out i can feel here, you cant play pool with no balls, just ask "Danny No balls Harriman"

i am going to pass by shooters on wednesday night and watch you johnny mora match up, i see you guys split tonight ;)

Hey Jcin, not trying to curb the match between these guys but maybe if Danny doesnt play, maybe Corey Deuel would be an acceptable fill-in.

I like this idea. Corey has apparently been playing some 14.1 lately based on his (260?) high run video posted by Marop. Give him another call Justin. I really wanted to see Danny vs John, but I'm really losing respect for Danny over this and his other behavior here on the forum.

Ring . . . ring . . . "Hello Corey? This is opportunity calling."

And if Corey won't play, heck, I'll take John on for the same money... I aint skrred ;)

Yeah, the problem is, now he'd line up that same cross corner, and against John he'd dog it, and hate himself for it. He knows that, so he will stay home thank you very much. Danny is officially categorized as half a pool player now, so that just leaves "player." I wonder what he is sitting at home and playing with now? It must be pretty good to stay at home and duck free money in a sport where there is none.

Harriman has been extremely rude of late. TAR puts out an incredible offer and this idiot refuses. It's not like this guy is pulling free vacations and guaranteed $1,000 paydays every week.

I understand your sentiments, but sometimes there are happenings behind the scenes that may prevent somebody from committing to a date certain as well as things that may not be compatible or conducive to competing in this arrangement. I am *not* saying it is a bad arrangement; rather, I am saying everybody has their own reasons, some of which may be personal and not available for public consumption. ;)

I don't know Danny Harriman well, but I don't think he's a turd just because he does not want to partake in this venture. To call him names and ridicule him for his decision, I hope, is not the status quo. :frown:

One never knows how others form their decision-making process, some of which may be personal and some of which the party(s) may not want to discuss on this open forum.

I think this needs to kinda stay on point in order for this match to go forward.

Gary's offer is appreciated BUT it puts a burden on TAR - there is a reason we put in the studio. To have a permanent location for matches , in a controlled venue. Pool rooms cannot off that.

Also, one of the main reasons for TAR offering the financial format is that backers are getting hard to find. The players get almost the same end result - without the need for backers - with Justin's offer.

I see some merit for Lenny's idea, and IF 10 people want to ofer $1,000 to Danny, that is their option.

But, I know Justin, and I am really hoping Danny rethinks his position on this. His number just does not work - the risk is too high for TAR. And if Danny makes it too tough to deal with him, then his future offers will probably become fewer and fewer.

Danny is a tremendous talent, and the American fans would like to see this rubber match played.

There is a point where the deal is not worth the hassle. I am sure Danny thinks that TAR makes gazillions of dollars on these PPV events. I can guarantee you that we don't.

Hopefully he will reconsider. Showing your ability to compromise to get things to happen usually means you will have the future opportunity to make more things happen. Playing hard to get only means that the people making the offers will probably go somewhere else.

Hope Danny thinks about it.

Mark Griffin

Now *this* is a classy post. You have a lot of class, Mr. Griffin, and all of it is good. It is a shame that more people don't address business in the manner you do. Of course, maybe that's why you are successful and some have all four tires in the sand. ;)

You could have Shane vs Efren in an all around. Ditch the 14.1 and replace with banks. The battle of the Derby Masters of the table.

There was a time, way back when reading all the John v Danny War posts over in the 14.1 forum, that I thought to meself, "ah. Danny is just building things up, playing the villain so that the rematch will really be something."

Now I see that I was wrong and giving Danny way too much credit. If it's not already too late, I hope Danny sees that he is damaging his reputation (and future opportunities) far beyond this particular match. He needs to swallow a little pride, put aside the perceived slights, and play some pool.

Did anybody not really see this coming ? It's kinda like the people that got Steven Tyler to sing the national anthem then get mad @ him for butchering it up with his singing style....You can'y paint stripes on a horse & call it a zebra !

I disagree, respectfully.

Danny Harriman should feel free to play pool in any venue he chooses. Just because he doesn't want to compete in this arrangement doesn't mean he's a bad guy.

Again, sometimes there may be reasons a person makes a decision to play or not play that is nobody's business on this forum. As such, I think they are entitled to a little bit of respect in this regard.

Maybe Danny will have a change of heart down the road, and maybe it will be too late. But he is the captain of his own ship and I believe deserves a modicum of respect. One minute, Danny is a good guy, with the forum cheering him on to play John, and the next minute, Danny's a turd because he doesn't want to play in this arrangement.

We are a fickle group, aren't we? :p
