Pool Wars by Jay Helfert

176 total pages and it is a spined paperback with four color cover; 6"x9", a fairly standard size. I went for the high quality paper and cover material, plus the deluxe binding. Hopefully it will look nice and be well made.

Jay - When do you anticipate being able to accept orders?

I want one and don't want to be shut out of one of the first 500... OK?

Yes . . . Yes . . . Yes . . .

$25 is a very reasonable price, especially for an autographed copy.

I definitely want one. Where do I pay.

Josh

Only $25? Okay you talked me into it:thumbup:

Make sure you get what your time and effort is worth. I will send payment as soon as you tell me where to send it.

I am pretty certain you will have no trouble unloading the first 500!

Maybe instead of reducing the price for AZB, you could do some sort of special run for AZB memebers. A numbered limited edition perhaps?

Nothing to raise the production costs greatly or anything. Maybe just a printed special message to AZB and its members with a # xxx/500.

I know I would gladly pay extra for a numbered autographed copy, and I am willing to bet I am not alone!

Just my two cents.

Above all I just want a copy. Are people who responded to this thread gauranteed a copy when available?

Thanks

Jw

The initial price is set at 19.95 (printed on the barcode) plus 4.95 shipping and handling. The total is 24.90 for a personally autographed copy, which I will send out myself. In other words I will be doing my own fulfillment on orders. The first run of 2,000 is the most expensive to produce with various set-up fees, proofs, printer corrections, storage charges, administration fees, etc. And then of course there is the actual cost of printing all these copies. I'm reluctant to lower my price on this first run. I will save money when (and if) it goes to reprint. If the book does not do well, there may not be a reprint, and the first 2,000 may be all that are ever printed.

Does this seem like a fair price on this first run? I did work on this project for the better part of a year, plus the last two months of learning the ins and outs of self publishing. I want very much for this to be a high quality book that people will be proud to have in their library. Whether the time and effort is worth it remains to be seen. I would like to lower the price a few dollars for AZ people, but I also want to be fair to myself. It will take the first 500 sales to get my printing costs and other fees back, before I can turn any profit. I'd like to think that all this time spent producing Pool Wars is not for nothing.

If enough people feel that a price like 17.95 plus only 2.95 for shipping is more doable for them I will rethink this process. I guess my question is, would saving $4 make that big a difference to people. Right now, it would to me. I welcome any and all feedback. In case you don't know, it was because of this forum that I was motivated to write this first book.

Autograph 2 copies and mail it $25 is good enough for me.

Okay guys, here's the deal. We will go to print next week and I should have 500 books in hand by March 15-20. The first 500 will be a numbered lot, and will be the only books that are numbered. I will offer them first on AZ until there are no more orders or the 500 are gone, whichever comes first. At that time, I will begin the regular advertising in the billiard trades.

The number one edition is taken (by Corvette), so the first book I sell will say 2/500. I will begin taking orders today, and you will receive your numbered edition in the order that I receive payment. You can pay for your signed and numbered copy at my Paypal address - jayhelfert@yahoo.com or by check at P.O. Box 1883, Redondo Beach, CA. 90278.

Total cost including shipping is $24.90. Please include the name you want me to use inside, whether it be your given name or your AZ name or both. All I ask for is your honest feedback on the book. I intend to write at least one or two more books, so any feedback is helpful. Thank you in advance!

I also just sent you the frog skins via paypal, along with a tip (green rep).
I am looking forward to reading this one and I don't like to read books.

Just one last thing, the shipping charges are for domestic mail only (in the USA). International charges will be at prevailing rates.
