The cue is a Sterling.
If that is true maybe Rat should contact John Barton, I bet John would want to know, I bet they are using these materials behind his back.
I hope John speaks up on this!!
The cue is a Sterling.
What's wrong with a lag bolt? As long as it's fit correctly & centered, I don't see why it wouldn't be as good as a flat thread 3/8-10 or 3/8-11 joinery bolt. .
What's wrong with a lag bolt? As long as it's fit correctly & centered, I don't see why it wouldn't be as good as a flat thread 3/8-10 or 3/8-11 joinery bolt. The cue broke because of the handle getting ultra thin at the "A" joint, not because it had a lag screw. It would have broken like this no matter if it had a lag screw or a radial pin.
With all that said, 3/8-10 threaded rod is cheap enough to not have to resort to using lag screws and should have just as aggressive of a hold.
I learned from this mistake and most of the ones I've made in the past. I just try to not make the same one twice.
I don't know if they make taps for them.
They create their own threads.
That equals to joint stress to me.
Ouch is right, glad to hear no one was hurt. From a beginners point of view, I certainly appreciate learning from others mistakes. Hardware issues aside, is there something that you could have done differently to prevent it from happening? I hope you don't mind my asking, I'm interested in learning what bits I can. Thanks.
Honestly, I'm not sure how it happened. It was soooo fast. One second I am cutting on the wrap channel and the next it came out of the tailstock center and snapped. It could have been avoided had I not looked away for that second or two. Maybe it pushed into the chuck a little. I did have a soft grip with a collet. Still, happened fast but I could have shut it down when I saw it move. Since this is my full time job, I have no problems talking and working at the same time....as long as my eyes are on the prize. My mistake was looking away.
Here's a little update on this repair. The owner received the cue and felt that the pink wrap does not match the pink in the veneers. No questions asked, I had her send it back, I'll restain the wrap, and ship it back. All for no charge. I will post pics of the "new" wrap when I get it done.
To hell with pics of the cue lets see the cute girl!
