This has been around facebook but I figured I would post it here for you all who haven't heard yet.

Jimmy "Philadelphia Flash" Fusco had a major heart attack this past Thursday or Friday. He's in the hospital now and apparently isn't doing well.

Prayers for Jimmy, his family and friends.

Back in the '80s Jimmy would come to the room in Toms River N.J.
I had the pleasure of playing him several times.
He is one of the nicest pool players and person you will ever meet.
A true gentleman. I am not a praying person.
But I wish him all the best in this struggle.

In the late 80's Jimmy gave me a dog, Wilma (he named her after Willie Mosconi). Wilma never really warmed up to me and missed Jimmy terribly. When I returned Wilma to Jimmy less than a year later, she ran up to him and kissed him all over. Jimmy was so happy to have her back.
He is a kind, generous and humble man. That combination is hard to find in the world of pool. Get well, Jimmy.
Here's a photo of Jimmy with his Philly 1-Pocket Crew that I took last year in front of Sandcastle Billiards.

Thoughts and Prayers to your friend Jimmy, Family, Friends and Loved ones. Sounds like a true 'Gem' in this World we live in.

-Kat,

Another one of the good guys! A great all around player who had heart and courage. He won the Sands tourney back in the early 90's and then stood up to Don Mackey and refused to boycott the L.A. Open the next year. Thanks for being a loyal friend Jimmy. I can't say that for many of the others from that era.

Favorite

Jimmy Fusco was always a favorite of mine. The first time I met him at a Frank Zummo tournament in Cleveland he tried to sell me a BlackBoar with 4 shafts. That was Oct. 94, I had no idea what a BB was or who Jimmy Fusco was . Every time I saw him after that he was always friendly with that great smile of his.Wish I would have bought his Boar.
Get well Jimmy you light up a room with your smile. My prayers are with you.

Prayers sent.I had two players and myself on a short roadtrip up the east coast in about 2005. We beat everybody we played and eventually made it to a poolroom on the southside of philly. It was an all black room with one white guy sitting there in the middle. We asked if anyone wanted to play some 1 pocket and they immediatly put the white guy(jimmy) on us for 200 a game. Right before the break they wanted to bet 300 a game so i said sure, bet. We won 4 games in about 5-6 hours but jimmy hit several balls lenght of the table, perfect speed that just barely hung and we won the money.they wanted us to stay in town and play the next day giving jimmy a ball. (We were working our way to atlantic city to play poker and blackjack for the weekend not really "on the road playing pool for a living, but my one pocket player with me is a really good 1 hole player and we had a good rotation player too) we stayed the night and met back around lunch the next day. Well those balls weren,t hanging the next day and we lose the 4 games back and pull up,but jimmy is wanting to play some rotation now so my other buddy plays him a race to 9 in 10 ball and guess what, jimmy fusco doesn,t ONLY play 1 pocket.lol.he played great and wins the set 9-4 or 9-5 something like that.great time ,and we were up about 5000 for the previous few days so that 500 didn,t hurt, just wanted to see him play rotation and he surprisingly ran out over and over lol.good times( joey gray was my 1 pocket player by the way)

I know Jimmy as a casual acquaintance but he was always a cool dude to talk to.

The last time I talked to him was when he was playing the Big Apple Open (or some similar name) at Master Billiards about 12-13 years ago. The next match we were sweating was Efren vs Yang Chin Shun. Jimmy supposedly didn't know who Yang was so I mentioned to him to "watch my boy". Anyhoo, the match went hill-hill, with Efren getting the W but Jimmy was impressed.

I hope he pulls out of this.

Jimmy was the real deal. He pretty much just gives lessons now I believe. I remember watching him battle at the Boulevard Social Club on Roosevelt Boulevard on top of the Acme supermarket in Northeast Philly in my younger days in the late 60's playing guys like Peter Rabbit and Joe Veasey. He was always a gentleman.

Get better Jimmy.
