well, my banks were at 8-9 out of ten, i was extremely confident shooting a bank into the side pocket, NOW I CANT MAKE SHlT! i consistantly miss short, and when i have to shoot a bank, my confidence is at an all time low, i lost a tourney the other day, if i would have made my bank, i would have been in 3rd place guarenteed, IM IN A SLUMP WITH MY BANKS, ITS BEEN GOING ON FOR LIKE 2 MONTHS, AND I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!

any advice on how to get my banks back? and my confidence back?

Banking with the beard aside (very good suggestion).

I'm assuming you already have the knowledge and are just having problems with your mechanics or focus.

Things that help me make banks are:

- proper visualization
- Don't take to long to pull the trigger, often when banking you over analize.
- speed has a lot to do with how you're banking, try backing off a bit. I say this especially since you stated you're missing short.

Use a level cue as much as possible and avoid english unless you absolutely need it for position, need to avoid a double kiss, or need to twist a bank.

What he said. Very good advice.

I know this seems an obvious question, but did you change tables that you normally play on? or did they get new rails?

any advice on how to get my banks back?

I would say, switch over to Credit Union, they have less fees.:D

dude its not your fault....in this bad economy all the banks are failing lol!

some good advice has been given here, speed is very important...sometimes players get bank happy and start to get sloppy and start forcing their banks. A change in delivery ends up creeping up on you and pretty soon you got a little slump going on.

Get beards book like they mentioned, and work some bank drills focusing on using no english and adjusting your OB path with the speed of hit. Be precise and make an effort and put in a little real pratice time and b/f you know it your going to get your consistency back.

best wishes,

VEPS IV - Banks, Kicks, and Advanced Shots

... and lots of practice.

There are so many variables to banks that it can almost be anything. The dirtiness of the balls and rail matter, which table, which rail, which specific bank you're setting up... some even swear humidity can make a banked ball miss.

Mostly it depends on the table, and even if you stick to the same table, different rails will have slight (hopefully) differences.

There are a few things you can do to make banks a little more consistent:

1. Hit 'em pretty hard. Not warp speed, but firmly. This helps overcome the differences between different tables or rails. Figure out a firm hit that seems to get the results you like, and stick with it for all banks, or for as many as you can. You won't always be able to play position but you can help yourself make the ball.

2. If you viewed a typical bank from above, you might notice that the ball always banks a little tight - the bank angle isn't as wide as it looks like it should be on paper. The balls bite into the rail a little and this causes the bank to shorten up.

This gets worse on hard hits (kinda like the ones I just recommend you do), so what I do is try to put a little outside spin on banks where the bank angle doesn't need to be shortened (and can be safely widened). Hard to describe on paper. Some banks are a threat to double kiss or go too wide with no english, and trying to spin them in with outside will make that even worse. But most common banks can safely take a little outside spin and you might find the bank goes a lot more predictably... the angle in will be closer to the angle out.

Mostly, it's just hitting a million balls :)

I doubt there are any players on this forum that could accurately suggest to anyone how to consistently make make 8-9 out of 10 banks.

But I do suppose there are a lot of opinions that will be shared.

Good advice here. In addition to avoiding English, I like to avoid follow and draw if I'm not banking well or I need to cinch a bank. Level cue, center ball, firm stroke (with follow-through, not a jab). That's what I try to focus on - the goal is to remove as many variables as possible.

Couldn't have said it better myself, but allow me to stir this little nugget into the mix. On those short crossers, add a smidgeon of outside english to help the OB come off the rail a little better. ;)

yes sir, it makes it come off the rail more natural.....now quiet b/f i sick my pet ostrich on you....thats what good banks are all about, if you can learn let the balls roll naturally then you can learn to adjust...not the other way around.

Like many things you can't know where 2 is at if you do not know 0 first.;)
