Hey Pool Fans.....

FINALLY, you can watch a bit of the Legendary Queen Jean Balukas on Youtube.

I have about an hour or more footage I will be slowly uploading over the following week or two.

Sorry about the sound quality, but its off an old old video, and it was hard to track, and the sound was going.......but hey......its better than nothing.

Cheers, and ENJOY - DA\/E

Thank you very much, well appreciated :)

No Worries Mate. ;)

But it will take me a bit of time to get it all uploaded, so stay tuned.

If you are interested, check out my other videos (on youtube), I have some of Legendary Australian Snooker / Pool player Eddie Charlton playing some 9 Ball. (Its the only footage of him playing Pool on the Net). I think he played some in the States, and is mentioned in the commentary on some of the Accustats tapes at times.

Cheers - Dave.

That is very cool. Wow! Thanks for contributing to the history of pool. I am positive that MANY folks will enjoy seeing this. Bravo to you for finding it and making it happen! :)

I love Robin's outfit. She looks so pretty!

Thank you!!!!

This was just the second time that I had seen her and the first time was on What's My Line" when I was just a kid myself. Thanks again it was great seeing her all grown up.

Thank you very much Dave. Did you all see the total purse? $10,000 with $3,000 going to the winner. Not trying to take anything away from Robin or Jean, as they are both champions. But those pockets were huge compared to today's tournament standards. Johnnyt

^^ Mate, I can only guess they made the pockets large in those days to make the game more exciting for the average punter (ie - making it easier to get the balls in the holes). No future in a game of safety play. The cloth looks slow though.

I love Robin's outfit. She looks so pretty!

He he....just wait till you see Eva in thefinals.......

Thanks, but can you retitled them using Balukas in the title to make them easier to find.

I have the video of Jean playing Ewa Mataya in the finals of the Classic Cup in 1987. It is two long sets, both Races To Nine. I co-produced this show, with Metro Vision in Chicago. It is by far the best look you will ever get of Jean Balukas in her prime. She lost the first set to Ewa and had to win the second set for the title.

You can get a copy at jayhelfert.com. I also have the men's final, Mike Sigel vs. Mark Jarvis. Vintage Sigel at his best! If you buy both you get a 20% discount.

Thank you.

They were playing at Caesar's Palace.
Not in some rinky-dinky casino in the boonies.

These videos are great. Looking forward to the next ones. Jay, I might take you up on that offer on your site.

Thanks,

KMRUNOUT

No wonder Jean got frustrated when the 9 ball went towards the corner twice in a row (for Robin) and got kissed in due to bad racking.

I have some other old matches where it happens in ridiculous proportions. Like a match between Yang CS and Kiamco where something like 5 out of 7 breaks are golden due to bad racking. And more later in the match. So in that regard, thumbs up and thanks to good referees, sardos, magic racks, and what-not.

I'm just curious.
How can you tell it was due to bad racking?
Can you see spaces between balls or some other problem on the video?

Typically if the 9 ball takes off, especially towards the corner pocket without benefit of being hit by another ball, there was a problem with the rack. In a good tight rack the 9 ball won't hardly move unless it gets hit.

Worth it

I purchased one of these videos of Jean from Jay. Very much worth the price. She was a great champion pool player. INHO

Right. I used to make 9 balls with some regularity even on racks that looked tight. But a local pool hall installed rack spots and ever since then, golden breaks are nearly a myth unless you try really hard to break for a kick at the 9. But it's better to go for a controlled break (wing or 1 ball) especially when you know the rack is good.
