QueenB: Rematch at Q-Master

You forgot to add "at my convenience". :D

Quote from boranaandoni.com

Glad to hear you're "not doing this for the 'fans'".

You forget that when someone wins money gambling, they are not obliged to play ever again. It's not a contractual thing.

Borana played when asked the last time on the west coast at the time and place that was set up by Melinda, even though she had come off a full day of playing a tournament that was very important to her to accommodate Melinda's wishes to match up. She had made a commitment to her double's partner pre tournament was and was putting her next day's scotch performance in jeopardy just to make this match happen.

Why is it so out of line that Borana asks that if Melinda wants a rematch, that she fly out to her coast to do so? After the stream, Melinda said that she will happily fly out to New York and play her for 4,000. Why is it now that Borana is agreeing to this that you have such a big problem Penquin?

If I were Borana, I would be a little put off by the manner in which I was asked to play as well. It does seem a little put on the spot to me also with Melinda arranging her days off before she even contacted Borana to play, and then informing her of the inconvenience afterwards.

It is also reasonable that she prefer to match up privately. After the whirlwind of comments from the last thread, and even those of this one, I can see how Borana may still wish to play, but not endure the drama that everyone else here loves.

"There is nothing neutral about ny. Borana lives here...."
cleary

Ya think?

and from what i understand plays there all the time. the upside is that i bet she wouldn't have a problem finding people to put her in the box

yup! nothing wrong with borana picking the location for this match. in fact since she won last time it's really up to her no matter what. if omg doesn't like it borana doesn't have to play at all if she doesn't want to

Tina, I love you and your knee, but... You should always offer them a chance to get even. Unless you dodged a bullet, it should favor the winner (the better player) and only bring in more money. Quitting winner is very NIT like.

In this case though, its been months and nobody has 'quit'. I think Borana did the right thing by saying, "come to NY and you got action".

What is the Greyhound bus fare from Q-Master Billiards, Located in Virginia Beach, Virginia to Amsterdam Billiards in NY?

Back in the day, the host would send a Yellow Cab to get action.
:)

I also believe that when someone is able they should give their opponent a chance to win their money back, it is the very un-nit thing to do, I agree! I am just saying it's not contractual. It's cool that she agrees, but she doesn't have to. There are many who think that in fact she did dodge a bullet, and the late swing of that match in the early morning hours played a factor.

On top of that, Melinda said one minute after she lost that she would have no problem going there and playing for 4,000. I am only replying to Penquin's convenience post.

As you lay out, since Borana won, she should be favored by being able to call the time and place as it is convenient to her since she is agreeing to the rematch.

Still dreaming of your knee,

Well speaking from a sponsor's point of view I would certainly welcome it any time a player I am backing has an opportunity to get attention.

If I were a rising star who is wanting to make a living in pool then I would certainly like to be the one people are talking about.

Fans are the only reason one should seek the spotlight. If it's all about a personal quest then don't have a website, blog etc... just get out there and grind it out and get your glory and attention that comes from winning. No need to market and write down everything you do in pool. Just win or die trying if it's all done just for the personal satisfaction of being the best.

My personal thought on this is that as long as the thread stays relatively civil then it should be fine to use as an avenue to work out a challenge match.

I will take 100 jelly beans worth of action on Melinda should this match go down.

Except when one of the two doesn't want it to. that really should end the discussion when one says no. Except here because forum members think they should get to choose what a person should do with their life, cash, etc. Obviously forum members know better.

When you're talking about gambling, everything else becomes secondary to making the right game. Period! That includes location, equipment, bet size and match format. Whether it's streamed or not is a secondary consideration. The last thing a player is worrying about before a big money match is who will be watching and how many people will see it. They'll be thinking about what they need to do to win!

Even the big matches we've seen on TAR are all about the bet! The players involved could care less who's watching and what they're thinking. Those are all secondary considerations. What is primary in their minds (or damned sure should be) is WINNING the cash! And that's the name of that tune. Borana has the right idea here. Just focus on the game and not worry about all the extraneous stuff. It was a very tough game for her the first time and it won't be any easier if they play again. Especially if the bet is doubled.

By reading your posts I'd say you are the biggest nit on this forum. Do YOU gamble? I'm from NY/NJ and I'd play you some. No idea who you are but I don't think you'd bet you're alive. Got you clocked perfect.

I'm the biggest nit on this forum for saying you shouldn't quit winner? REALLY? REALLLLLLLLY?

No, never gambled before. Wanna teach me?

Nice post with good points for discussion.
OMG doesn't have a sponsor and has a job and the $4K is earned and post tax money.

Using AZB as a forum to match up may be the way of the future - it has worked before.

If it is recognition and not the money, then the US Open is a great platform for that for there can be many sweaters and side action. The sport can use that to spark interest.

If the match goes at Q's then it prolly will be streamed which will spark more interest. Q's is a neutral location and who can fault that?

I don't think that OMG is invited or entered to play in the US Open, nor do I know if Queen B is either. It will cost OMG' at least $1K to travel, lodge and eat. Even if she wins, she will not win much $$ in the grand scheme of things.

If this match takes place in private, then there is little to be gained by the pool community who are interested in following these two players who seek attention for whatever reasons - this started on AZB before Shark's and should continue on AZB.

This thread is what pool needs and AZB is the forum that will bring it forth.

If a tree falls in the forest will anyone here hear.

Just sayin.

Sadly I don't think they will talk much on here anymore. I think it's gonna end without a rematch. Sad though. Borana has the nuts, I would guess just needs a backer with a ton of heart.
If she has the nuts, why would her backer need any heart at all? He/she would only need money.

Dunno where you got your info.. I've seen cleary blow through G's on the blackjack table about as fast as i seen him blow through the breakfast special at kadys.. He cant shoot for shit.. neither can I, but we do trade 20's and if you give him the right game i'm sure he'd be happy to relieve you

If you read Borana's post she is not the one seeking attention. It was simple, if OMG wants to play in NY give her a call. It seemed a fairly simple explanation to me. It doesn't matter what AZB forum members want as it should be. Forum members are not the ones playing or putting up the money.

This thread is what pool needs and AZB is the forum that will bring it forth.

Once again it does not matter what people think pool needs. This is a match between two players. If either one is not satisfied with conditions then there will not be a game. Borana wants this handled by phone or email. It appears she does not want or need the three ring circus act that follows posts on this forum. I happen to agree.

If a tree falls in the forest will anyone here hear.

Oh, believe me they will hear you can rest assured of that. The loud mouths never shut up!

Just sayin.

I think Jay's post was right on the money as well.

I apologize if some people took offense to my reply. I was just upset because we have each others emails and phone numbers and if she wants to play me, she should contact me herself first instead of just posting online what the game is and where I should play her, basically putting me on the spot.

And no I am not doing this for the "fans". I did not play her for any of that. I have learned that in order to improve my game, I have to stop caring about what people think. She called me out he first time and I went and played her without caring about anything.

Anytime Melinda wants to play, just come to New York anytime she wants and I will play her. It doesn't have to be streamed. So lets end this comments about "fans" and "attention" and "beauty peagents" please.

Thank You

Borana, no disrespect intended, but after reading Melinda's post I took it more as a suggestion of terms. Because online we don't get to hear the person talk, sometimes people read a "tone" into a post that isn't there or wasn't intended.

Also, did anyone consider that maybe Melinda lost Borana's contact info? I only say this because I'm really, really bad about that.

Um, no, when one of them doesn't want to participate then they simply don't participate.

For example Borana could have not written anything and simply emailed/called Melinda with her thoughts.

Or she could have said, "I will email you."

Certainly you understand that people like to talk about other people on the internet. Spread gossip and drama and that sort of thing.

I, for one, don't see anything with issuing a challenge on the net. And I don't see anything wrong with people discussing it civilly.

As for "forum members" telling people what to do with their life I think that this is something most of us who post here have been guilty of don't you agree?

Lastly. if I were Borana's sponsor then I would certainly not want to see her pass up any opportunity for more publicity and "ad impressions" for me. After all that is ALL I would be paying for.

As Jim Murnak's competitor I hope that she does not have this match streamed and that she does not participate in the forum at all. :-)

(just kidding, I don't care either way)

nothing in the world wrong with the "you want a chance to get your money back you gotta come to me to get it" attitude
