Thank you for letting us know. I met Bert many years ago when my friend was doing his inlays in his machine shop in Burbank. He was a good guy and loved making cues. He did great work too. He will be missed.

Kenny,

That's very sad news indeed....our thoughts & prayers are with the Schrager family.

Crap

I knew it was coming eventually. He was a special cue maker and friend to me. He inspired me to get into collecting cues and the true artistry behind it. I have a special cue of his he made for me signed one of one (only one he ever did that way). RIP Burt - keep the Carom table warm and I'll shoot ya some when I get there.

I have only had 2 cue makers

Actually call me after delivering my cue to ask if I was happy - Schrager and Mottey. Schrager actually called numerous times after the fact just to shoot the bull. Would spend an hour or 2 on the phone. What a wealth of knowledge he had - he knew the greats - especially Martin. A true class act and facinating man. Took SOOO much pride in his work. If it wasnt perfect he wouldnt send it out. His wife Pat too was a wonderful woman - would love her e-mail if anybody has it. He touched a lot of people over his life. I wonder if Butera knows about his passing.

This is sad news indeed, thank you for the post. Bert has not been well for a long time and last report (last week) he was waiting for this day to come in the hospital. He was completely blind, would not wear his hearing aid (so effectively deaf), would not accept treatment and would only eat if Pat fed him...it was time and he knew it. Bert will be missed by many, including me and my wife, Diane.

He and his wife, Pat, practically adopted me when I first moved to San Fernando Valley in late 1976. They were both a big part of my life while living in Southern Cal after moving there alone from Detroit, and it stayed that way as I married and moved away. We always stayed in touch; even if it was months between emails, phone calls or visits. They were very generous with not only me, but many people they came in touch with. I witnessed this many times first hand.

I had the honor of working w/Bert in his shop doing inlay work on the panagraph for about 6 months. It was because of my respect for Bert that I went back to school so as not to disappoint him with other choices I may have made. He touched many lives, I am just one. He will be missed dearly.

I love you Bert!

Just spoke with Bert's wife, Pat. She wanted me to share that Bert was not in any pain, he was just very, very tired. Bert will be cremated and buried in a nearby military cemetery so he & Pat will be near each other. She thanks everyone for their well wishes & prayers.

Bert remains one of my all-time favorite interviews. His article is the only one that I wrote in first person, writing the words as he spoke them.

Thanks for being there in the begin to shape how cues to be made

Lord please bless The Schrager Family in this time of need. Its my birthday today , Not funny having Famous ,Legendery Cuemarkers Passing on the same day. Before Edwin Reyes and now Bert Schrager a few yrs later. mark

That is one incredible cue maker tree. I am impressed that Bert had an influence on that many people.

Imagine what the cue making world would be like today had he not contributed.

I never knew the man, but know he is in a better place.
