This thread seemed to become a bit of a referendum on Kevin Brewer and how he typically sells.
I don't blame Kevin one bit for speaking up since this decision has the potential to negatively impact his livelihood. And that coupled with the fact that he (Kevin) is certainly no abuser here on az, but rather, a valued contributor.
Very recently, he sold a Tiger TAD here before it ever made it to eBay, an example of us having a buying oppty before competing with the rest of the world. I think that was just a couple of days before this thread was started.
I have enjoyed reading (and learning from) some of his other threads in which rare and unusual items have been offered, along with the subsequent discussions.
What we're experiencing here is typical, really - the good law abiding citizens are being penalized for the abusive acts of a few others. Rather than dealing directly with the abusers, it's easier to impose a rule change for us all.
It reminds me of how I spend so much money on car insurance. Part of the premium goes for something they call "Uninsured Motorist" coverage. I get to pay more on my policy for all the a$$holes who are riding around without insurance on their cars. WTF! :angry:

Of course I agree (seeing you see it my way). Right now I have 2 cues on eBay, neither of which I have linked in the For Sale Forum and bumped my once a day (or less) unless there is discussion (and I doubt my Predator would have inspired much talk). I fail to see how the Forum has been improved one bit, and to be honest, I don't really see that many guys posting eBay links besides myself. Maybe the problem the mods are addressing isn't clutter, because if it is, this seems a rather poor fix.
High end cues are collectables, and like many collectables, their trading is often done in a non-transparent transaction. So, while most of us are very interested in Balabushkas or Szambotis or Ginas, we quite often don't know the value of them because we aren't calling for a price (not being buyers). Guys like me selling these high-end cues in a transparent environment are illuminating in that way. When I post a Balabushka on eBay and link it here and it gets 1000 page views or more, I'm not expecting everyone that looks to be a bidder, that's the the point.
Take the Tasc lawman has on eBay right now. He flogged that cue on AZ and didn't have a buyer. Its on eBay right now at a higher bid value with 3 days to go than he offered it here for. Now maybe the fact is that nobody wanted that Tasc for that much, but if anyone looked at it and thought they really liked that cue but the price was too high for the market, seeing it sell on eBay for a higher price is a good thing to know as it helps them better judge the market they trade in. I'm at a loss to see how preventing him from sharing that info with the cue buying community here at AZ is a good thing.

Kevin has provided a lot of insight in how to complete transactions safely whether it is within the CONUS, foreign transactions, with E-bay and how to safely complete payment transactions through Paypal. I have learned a lot from his contributions in this area and look forward to any additional information he may learn as the crooks change their tactics.
I also look forward to all his items for sale and hope that some resolution comes with regard to how he attempts to get more exposure for his items.
I think the best solution to it besides the sub forum would be just to have an asking price in the thread along with the link, end the auction early if someone will pay the price your asking and state that in the listing. I think the classifieds on here can be improved by getting it better organized with different sections. It will make it easier for people to find what they are looking for and less bumping and bandwidth wastage too.

That doesn't work for me. My selling prices are established in an auction starting at $10 and going to the highest bidder at no reserve. My guarantee to my bidders is that if they have an interest they item will remain there for them to bid, it won't disappear. In my mind (as an auctioneer) this is the truest method of establishing value.

Edit....I had two buyers, just none of them paid:thumbup:.....I am gonna "flog" some others cues here soon.....having to realist the cue twice here because of non payment may have had something to do with the sale..maybe, just maybe.....
both people were fairly reputable as well...not newbiesI don't understand what all these negative remarks are about. NOBODY is stopping Kevin or anyone else from selling an item here, or being a great contributor to the forum. Nobody is stopping anyone from selling on eBay either.
The people who own and operate this site are asking for all of us to please not direct people to another for sale site. Yes it might have an effect on how some people always did things but it's not a big deal. Everybody knows that Kevin runs his auctions from Sunday-Sunday and through eBay you can save him as a seller and you will be notified if he lists an item, or you can just look Sunday night at newly listed items.
eBay wouldn't allow AZ to put a banner or link to AZ on their site that deliberately sends buyers elsewhere, so what makes it o.k. to do it here?
Lastly, in the case of Kevin (no harm intended) he does not end auctions early for anyone......including a member of AZ. So once his auctions are live the item is NOT for sale on this forum anymore. I completely understand why the mods don't want it here.......if it's not for sale here. Kevins probably brought more gems out of hiding than anyone here but this should not play that much of an affect on his livelihood. He can still sell here and on eBay...........he just can't hang up a Target sign inside Walmart.

Thanks so much. I really do see this place as a community (or at least I did). Everything I know about cues I learned here or from someone I met here. I mean, want to know about the dimple in George's joint pins? Post a question here and you will know. That is an awesome resource. This place has been a great benefit to me and I've really tried to give back.
It does seem to me there are lots of "takers" in the For Sale Forum, and I don't see how this rule, which greatly impacts me, impacts them one iota.

Okay, but would you be opposed to the classifieds being better organized and your ads being in the Raffle/Auctions section? I think the people who do post Ebay links (I have done it once recently) are really not the big issue here. The big issue is its cluttered because of disorganization, have a Wanted Section, Cue Section, Case Section, Accessories and others would help really make things better here and less bumping to because you would not go from page 1 to page 5 in an hour or 2.

I hear ya on the non-payment. eBay has been no different for me in that regard. Recently I've been selling cues there 2 or 3 times before I get payment. But you are right, maybe the failed sales do end up hurting value.
My Daddy (who could sell) told me, "buyers that buy are buyers, buyers who don't buy aren't buyers".

The difference is that Walmart profits from people buying from them and not Target. AZ Billiards has no financial stake in cues being sold at their site. The For sale Forum is a free service AZ provides for its members use and edification. I'm not taking one penny out of AZ's hands by linking people to my eBay auctions.
I would never steal from the hand that feeds me.

I know you sell alot and I know form your iTrader you are a good one. One thing that escapes me is why do we all suggest it as the Auction/Raffle Section?
a) why would those 2 be lumped together

Agreed, but once your auctions are "live" your items are no longer for sale here.......right? The only reason you link them is to use the for sale forum as a advertisement tool. The mods are saying that's not what their free for sale forum is meant for.
The raffles were outlawed here but the people still post the links to get you to the other site that has the full listing just like you would be doing for Ebay. Maybe an Auction sub-forum would be good too, either takes you to Ebay or you can run them right in the thread.
Is that what they are saying? I don't know what they are saying besides "no linking of eBay auctions in the For Sale section". I don't see how preventing their members form knowing about my eBay offerings benefits AZ Billiards at all.
You know, we are all discussing this like we are a community, sharing ideas and opinions as if we have any say in anything. Fact is, apparently, we don't.
This discussion is taking place after the changes, what discussion (among the "Community") took place before?

Yeah an auction sub-section would work for me, and I like the splitting of the forum into sections for ease of navigation. Meantime maybe we as a community are designing a site we have no control over.

I like Lenny's suggestions....those are clean breaks imo....and these would do a lot to help alleviate all the congestion here in this one place. A few of these could conceivably be combined....like Accessories + Books/Videos + Memorabilia.....if this list is perceived as too many.
Would Trades be only trades? What about items that are 'for sale or trade'.....it would be best if they are just once, probably in whatever main sub-section they fall under, Cues, Cases, etc.
