Joey from reading the blog I get the impression she did speak out in private, but all she got for it was a snide wisecrack.
Who gave her a snide wisecrack? And what was said?

My first thought was when reading this was wow before long woman's pool will be fixed much like wrestling . Then I realized that this event sounds as if it was fixed if you start leaving off some of the best woman players for any reason other then ability and character then you are fixing the field for a lesser player to win the event.
I was watching Sarah play in a 9 ball tourny on ESPN late last night . I think she does herself a disservice she is a attractive woman who shoots a good game. And after reading her blog you can't help but to respect her even more for not being afraid to stand up for what she believes in. The playing conditions were terrible , the tables sound as if they were a joke . No lighting the field was selected baised on how attractive the players looked. picking refs out of the crowd and putting them on the tv table . The list goes on and on and they are legit beefs. A players meeting where the public was allowed into and complaints were brought to the front then and they were laughed at. If they are going to laugh at you when you try to talk to them how can you be knocked for taking it public?
CW and DP can surly be a asset to this game of pool but not by hosting events in this manner. I hope somehow they wake up and do things the way they should be done . I applaud Sarah for coming forward with this and she has certainly earned my respect not only as a player but also as a person ...
Well done Sarah...
Joey,
What I don't understand is.....You seem to think people voicing opinions about this, here on the forum, is the detriment to pool, while the actual problems with this event AND others are not.
I think the outrage IS about the detriment to our sport and women.
Ray
Maybe you're right. Maybe the forum's constant denigration of CW and DP will make something positive happen. I personally doubt it.
Sarah has a right to complain about the tournament (it sounds like it isn't going well for her and her complaints are being amplified by others) and apparently she is well aware of the ramifications that are involved with being critical about the promoters and is set to pay the price. If I were in her shoes, I would be complaining loudly, with respect, but in private and only to the people who make the decisions to change the way things are done. That's all I'm saying.
The forum members can complain all they want. I'd like to know what it accompishes?
If it's just a healthy exercise in freedom of speech, I'm all for it.
If it is just to vent without regard, to the detriment of our sport, I'm against it.

Everyone on the thread just take a sec. Keep it short and polite and maybe it'll even get read.
Joey,
This forum has effected change in the past. The reason that promoters are here doing their press releases is because they know that the audience reading AZ billiards is far larger than the relatively small group of active posters. You know this from our RSB days as well.
When discrepancies and conditions are made public, and by no less than a person who is materially affected by them, then that carries weight.
The fans of the game, us, give credit and support to everyone in this game who steps up to do it the right way. This members of this forum along with the members of another one pooled their money together to help Sarah make this trip. In effect AZ is her sponsor. It's sad to see that she is not being treated as a professional player but instead a necessary nuisance because DP needed to fill a 48 player board.
The admonition that those who aren't willing or able to "do it better" should remain silent is not a valid point. The right to speak out and criticize is a valid one and sometimes it hurts.
Someone said, "I don't care what anyone writes about me as long as is isn't true."
We can applaud Charlie for creating a $20,000 payday for women. We can vilify him for making the price of competing for that money that you have to endure horrid conditions and rampant favoritism. Especially in light of the fact that he has said that this is the best Women's event ever created.
Factually this event can't hold a candle to the Amway Cup, which has been in existence for 12 years and runs like clockwork with superb table conditions and the players treated like pure gold.
As for the idea that anyone can call their event a "World Championship". That's right, they can, but to be recognized in the WPA records as a world champion then the event needs WPA sanctioning. Along with WPA sanctioning SHOULD come a certain amount of professional standards and conduct and rules governing participation. Looking at the participants it's quite easy to see that the participation rules were bent as far as possible, professional standards do not seem to be evident nor is the conduct towards the real stars of the game anything short of tasteless and classless.
The WPA should have declared the equipment and the venue unfit for duty.
The saddest part of all this is that we all know pool is nothing more than a promoter's toy and the players are considered low caste chattel to be toyed with at will - but being told to "suck it up" and applaud the promoters who so flagrantly flaunt their positions of power is degrading. All we wish for as fans is to see good pool played by the best. To not have that happen staged by one who knows better is completely insulting.
I'm pretty much done with this thread. I don't think there is much more I can say or want to say.
Later,

This is not Charlie Williams/Dragon Promotions first event.
He's had months to plan.
It's a SANCTIONED World Championship.
It's not the Shanelle/Zarah invitational.
It's not the Barbie 10-Ball Open.It should be unacceptable and more people should speak up. Speaking to the promoters in "private" - what good is that gonna do?
I give her credit for having an issue, knowing that there may be possible repercussions, and still speaking her mind.
As to the idea that Sarah wouldn't be "invited" to any future DP events I say this. IF those events are WPA sanctioned events, and especially if they are called "Word Championships" then there should be NO WAY that Sarah is barred IF her professional ranking is high enough to warrant a spot.
In other words if she EARNED a spot by maintaining a high enough ranking then she automatically gets a spot.
If such a situation occurs in the future and she is not accorded a spot I will be the first to donate to the lawsuit fund.
Who gave her a snide wisecrack? And what was said?

................Sarahs blog said:When looking at the tables they look like Brunswicks but they are AMF. The rails are wavy. If you don't know what I mean, the rubber has waves in it so a shot down the rail can really suck. The pockets have hard shims in them so a shot hit hard down the rail or straight and catches the shim...you are screwed. When we asked about a possibility of something being changed...we were laughed at.

Wow! Sarah Rousey is one gutsy lady! She has just posted her critical comments of what is going on in Manila at the Women's World Championships. And she pulls no punches! Read it here:
http://sarahrousey.blogspot.com/
With the state of pool, is that it is hard to turn down $20K in prize money, even if the conditions are bad.Sarah's experience is freaking unbelievable.!!!! While I do understand the promotional aspects of any international or local event, I would not blame her one bit if she or other female players decide not to participate in future DP events. It is my opinion that these issues should be addressed directly to the WPA once she returns home.
To follow that up it's not the womens fault they are being put on display so much as DP.
