Scott Frost $10,000 One Pocket Challenge!

I sat first row at the derby two years ago and watched efren and scott play 9-7. Then the freezer beat him in that race to 8 and I was shocked that he got there since he looked like he had the worst of it in Kentucky getting two balls.

A little bit of backpedaling here, and I can see why Jay would be hot since he invested some time getting something going, but realistically I think Efren is the favorite even if they play at Kolbys. You cant knock the Kolby's guys too hard for insisting on a home game, imo they are showing real gamble to even play Efren. Already there are people looking to bet on Efren in this thread and I dont think that will change much both online and in person at Kolbys if this goes off.

If Scott can win at Kolbys, his backers could make a huge score.

I can understand if Jay is a bit hot that the game did not come off in his backyard as planned but most of the time these things do not go off as planned. I think Scott is showing a ton of heart playing Efren anyplace including Kolby's and the bets will be against him heavily but if he can do it then he will be proving he is the best. 2 players and the table with the cash on the line and all of us getting to sweat it. Well to be honest until I speak further with Scott tonight I am out of words but uwate hit it on the head pretty good.

Ya that was a good call Jay.

Do you think that if Scott flew to the Philippines Efren would give him anything?

How has your pool playing been affected Jay when you have flown to somewhere far away like the Philippines? I know when I flew to Thailand, it took me 2 days to get acclimated to everything.

When you play like I do (b.a.d.), nothing affects you.
Actually I had less adjustment time going over there (a day or two) then when I came back (a week or more).

Just to be fair to both players from 2 years ago till now, I can assure you the margins have closed. Efren has gotten a little bit older. Scott has changed his lifestyle as of about a year ago. Stopped drinking and really started to focus on improving his game. That was only a short time before the Derby 09 and he took 2nd in the 1 hole.

I really think at Kolby's this game is very very even. In Vegas I could see it being a great match (But they get all the good matches). In L.A. it might be close as well, but I don't see that going off.

I wouldn't see any issue with the Efren Crew having places to crash in Phoenix.

What about Sweet Tooth Billiards in Phoenix? They have 3 nice Diamonds. Not quite Home Field for either player. (insert wrench icon here)

Well I hope like everyone else this match goes off, doesn't matter where.

My opinion is we are being too harsh on Scott for not wanting to play Efren in LA. Look at it another way... when was the last time ANYONE offered to play Efren even 1 hole? The year 1990?

You have to keep things in perspective. So what if he wants to play in his backyard when talking specifically about Efren. We've all been around enough to know there is always negotiating before the players make it to the table. Efren's side should be happy there is a player willing to play at all, with no handicap. So what if some legwork was done and now it won't happen exactly that way. Thats just the way game-making goes.

My opinions of course, and no offense intended to anyone...

This is a matchup everyone wants. Why not play half the race in L.A.,half in Tempe?Flip a coin to see who gets the first half.Problem solved.

The reason people are giving Scott flack...

The reason scott's getting flack from people is that this started out as an "I'll play anyone even 1 hole for 10k in a neutral location"

Then it turned into, "well, I'll play anyone but Efren, if he wants to play, it'll have to be at Kolby's"

ME, I don't care one way or the other, but IMO anyone is anyone and a neutral location is not where he is house pro.

I'd love to see it come off, even if it is at Kolby's though.

Have to agree with you. Had there been a disclaimer, I'm sure everyone would understand. As it is, it looks like back pedeling.

I'd like to see this go down wherever they decide to do it. I don't even mind making the trek to Kolby's; I happen to like the room. At this point, I'm afraid this match isn't going to happen.

Almost what I was going to post....but I was going to push it a little more....

Like, they put up for two full sessions for $10,000 each - one session in each location....after all, Jeanette and Vivian just played for more than that.

Magoo's in Tulsa

Jim and Laura might be able to work something out. We have very nice GC IV's and even Diamonds.

I think Jay is right in this matter. Lenny did sound a bit confident with the anyone statement flashing around the $10k and even acting like Efren was just another player to be invited to get beat.

When the bluff is called, Lenny doesn't even man up to what he originally said.

If we can arrange it in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Magoo's would that appeal to either side? It's a state away from Galveston, TX.

P.S. Maybe we can get bigtruck to stream this bad boy as well.

Main Street Billiards in Tucson is a nice room with plenty of Gold Crowns. I just flew into Tucson on a straight through flight from L.A. for 79 bucks.
Stake horses and rail birds alike could make it there cheap.

Warning! May contain woofing, that could be hazardous to your fragile hometown psyche

It doens't matter, "WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME SOMEONE OFFERED TO PLAY EFREN EVEN?". What matters is, "Scott" (although he may not have been doing the typing) jumped up and offered a challenge, to....ANYONE IN THE WORLD! To play even one-pocket, race to 21, for 10k. Anywhere, neutral turf. NOW, it's "but not Efren!"
Efren IS part of "anyone". It's a backpedalling mess! And to be truthful, I'd rather see Efren play someone that can play ONE-POCKET. Scott is great at running out, but i have watched him play a lot of one-pocket, and i'm really not impressed with his ability to "move" with a player of Efren's ability. Oh well, i guess that's just ANOTHER reason he will back out.
You yapped, now get up and play! Cause now it's gonna look double bad, if Efren comes to AZ and beats you.

If your gonna bark at the big dogs...don't expect a free pass when you run off to lay by your dish.

Understand this, if I make a game for myself I do not backout and will play, always have and always will unlike many people on here who waste peoples time. It is Scott's choice whether or not he wants to play Efren outside of Kolby's and ultimately not mine. People who have no real interest in this want to speak on it like its just another game. We are talking Efren here and Scott will play him even, should not matter that it is at Kolby's because I do not see another player in the world willing to play Efren even one pocket for 10K anyplace.
P.S.
I am sure I will be streaming it and if not me then I would give TAR the go ahead if I was unable.

Ouch.

I'm sure you will do a great job with this Lenny!

Lenny, everybody on here knows that you're an OK guy. You just happen to be put in the middle as the guy trying to make this happen. Personally I don't blame Scott for adding a small stipulation to the rules concerning Efren. We all want this game to happen no matter where it winds up being.

I, like many here, feel that the format is in Efren's favorite no matter where it goes down. I hope it happens and no matter who wins we'll all be treated to some exciting one pocket.

Don't sweat the negative comments. It is just like a pool room everyone has an opinion which I guess is a good thing. If they didnt that would mean no one cared.

I hope it goes off it could be one for the ages.

Thanks for the consideration as far as the stream. When I posted earlier someone took it to mean I was trying to horn in on your match and that was not my intent. Anything we can do to help with this or in the future let me know.

I watched DVD number 1 last night of this race to 8 and can tell you Efren was not his typical self. He made very amateur mistakes the first 3 games and Scott got up 3 to 0. The mistakes continued and he definitely had something wrong with him. Not trying to steal Scott's thunder, but anybody who watches this and knows anything about 1 pocket will agree. I'm sure he would follow Scott Frost all over the world or move to Arizona if he knew he could get played even, everyday, all year long and bet 10k every time.
