I see that Ken Shuman (A great Emcee) is doing the US Open as well as most of the major events in the US. What happened to Scott Smith? I always enjoyed him as an Emcee also!

He's hunkered down here in CO to live it out, and plays leagues etc. and does well. I do miss his earlier days of announcing and match intros. He cut his before the Boxing announcer....''lets get ready to rumble'' made it big. I always felt Scott was equal to that man in many more ways and Scott could of written and implemented the ''big deal'' and taken the game to the next level. He HAD that ability and character and business smarts, and Could Play, which are Not common traits of a pool player. He is Always a bright light in a dingy room.
Scott smith and the word character should never be in the same sentence. That Scott is no longer involved in pool is a good thing for pool. There is no place for a tournament director that takes bets on matches from players for matches that he's officiating.

Here's a cute shot, courtesy of Jack Madden, of Scott Smith and Billy Stroud at the 1978 Stoners Tournament.
And here I thought Scott was a natural blond.

1982 Scott, myself, Billy, Jr. Harris and Scotts brother and a couple subs had a BCA 8 ball team, Wizards, won the team nationals. Stroud played good, had the high winning season average, over 900 which had never been beaten. Best players shot in the 860-870's, never over 900.
Oh, Scott also had a business card ''Have cue will Travel'' and I think he did finish 4th in the Stardust late sixties.
I know many people who enjoyed betting on U.S. Open 9-Ball Matches with Scott, et al. It was a committee of brokers hedging bets. It made it fun for some railbirds.
Long live Scott Smith.
In fact, I consider him a friend. I hope he is doing well. We love Scott Smith and all that he brings to pool -- EVERYTHING!!!!
