Shaw concedes down 5-0

Half of me understands Shaw quitting, but the other half says suck it up. These top players should all be booked through Sunday night if they came to win the 9 Ball. This isn't the first year this has been a marathon tourney.
I always seen DCC as a "grinder" event. PRO's today seem more like showman rather than like in yesteryear when you had money matches that would grind out for days. I would rather see the Mosconi become more like the Derby, than derby looking more like the Mosconi. Pool is about ability AND endurance. JMHO.

Probably time to kill the 'buy-back' system and go to standard brackets. Still think JS is tool tho. ;)

could still be buyback but use traditional double elim brackets, i'm thinking? the redraw system seems to be a braking factor

I agree with that. Filler has matured over the past few years. I do respect his abilities. But I can't get the "arrogant prick" image out of my head.
You know,....
In my younger days I hated Larry Bird. I didn't know why then, I just did.
Now that Iam older, I understand why.
In short, we're jealous.
Kinda like why ppl hated George Steinbrenner, or (not trying to be political here), Donald Trump.

To a point yes but this is nonsense. Time for DCC to do a total re-boot on how they run this event. The buy-back's days should be numbered. Forget the Mosconi, that's a made-4-Brit tv exhibition.

couldn't do both. either a traditional bracket or bb. its the bb that causes so much of the delays. they can't start nxt round til everyone's done and bb's are paid. too many tables siting around unused. no good.

It absolutely is a grinder event, but it’s gone too far. Greg knows it and is struggling to find resolution. The One Pocket Express rules was hopefully going to fix things. It didn’t.

In case you weren’t aware, they are still playing right now unless they finished in the last half hour. That’s is beyond “a grind.”

(Edit: it’s 1045am - Filler and Labutis tied 8-8 after Filler was up 7-1)

It may fix itself if the top pros stop showing and this becomes a nine day version of Super Billiards Expo. When it happens once, it’s an aberration. When it happens twice in a row, it’s a routine.

OK. My modest proposal. Same venue. Just bring in all barboxes. Diamond revolutionized the bar table. Banks went short rack. Short rack one pocket on the 7’. 😜.

No, I don’t think this should happen. But neither should round the clock play.

it takes a weak kneed director not to find a way to speed an event up, by doing whatever it takes within his power.
and owners should oust those in power that cant make their event work properly.

and if its a case of too many entries thats great. raise the fee enough to eliminate some and have a bigger purse.

The fix isn't that hard. Add a day to the tourney. Make early stage of 9 ball races to 7.

Do those two things AND embrace the idea that this tourney is going to be a grind. A once a year marathon tourney. If you can't handle it -- stay home.

Double elim bracket to start

Switch to single elim at top 16

Add buy back option at top 4 (or just keep it out entirely)

adding a day would add players expenses too.. so prize money should go up then..

For those who missed it the first eight times.... Copied from a post from last year.

They don't have to give up buy-back -- just their broken version of it.

For those who missed it the first seven times I posted it here:

Run 16-player qualifiers, single elimination. Win your qualifier and you get into the main event, also single, 64 spots.

If you are one of the 15 who lost in your qualifier, you can enter again. And again, And again until the qualifiers fill the big board or it is time to start the final 64 tournament.

This keeps all the tables busy. You could probably have 1024 total entries per event counting buy-backs.

Simple. Much easier to run that what they have now. You don't loose the buybacks. Much easier on the players, because they could see the full schedule for their qualifier. If you lose, you can rest a little and then re-enter if you feel like it. You could schedule the first day a week ahead of time and others could arrive a day late. Players in the final rounds of banks wouldn't be playing in the starting one pocket qualifiers at all -- they would start in later qualifiers. Etc.

And on the particular point of slow play, a snail only slows down his qualifier and it probably just means he has very short breaks between matches.

My first thought when things like this happen are with the bettors and you have to figure there def was money on a match between these two guys so, sad for the game and for any who placed a bet on Jayson. Plus, in a winner break format, as we've seen before, Jayson is never out.

The FB comments above soundf like they were made out of frustration and I think there is some merit to them being frustrated but still, I hate to hear whenever something like this takes place. Whatever year it was that everyone got snowed in at DCC, I watched as Jayson got shellaced 9-0 by Pinegar who couldn't miss a ball and within minutes of that match ending my phone rang and it was Jayson calling to tell me that he wanted to sell his Diamond table because he wanted to replace it with a Chinese 8b table and that's just what he did. The reason was that he just saw his good friend Darren taking down the Chinese 8b event and getting $100k for winning. Of course we are now seeing that event paying even more to the winners.

So, yes, it appears some of the top players who because they are so talented, they go deep and the schedule at DCC is gruelling creating a very tough atmosphere - it could be a reality show. Boot camp at Camp LeJeune while playing marathone pool.

Things finally appear to be changing for the positve in pool but I can understand them wanting better conditions at this event and certainly compared to other sports, better payouts for sure. But for the sake of the bettors and the fans, please play your matches to the very end.

Greg Sullivan &Pat Flemming are good guys and are reasonable and if approached by the players I'm sure a good solution could be reached that would create a win-win for ther players, sponsors, the guys who put the event on and the fans.

One last thing to mention. I know that Jayson has the ability to rub some people the wrtong way but I promise that if you got to know him even just a little bit, you would see what a great guy he actually is. If you're ever at an event and you see him go over and say hello. He's got an awful lot on his plate between his various businesses, sponsors, family, and we see when he is playing a match he goes into beast mode but underneath all that he's a genuine good guy - and a helluva sense of humor, too. Or as they say in Scotland, humour lol.
