Smorgass Bored Update

Keep fighting

Doug, I don't know if you are reading the many post that your true friends are sending but if you are here's mine. You once said that you admired my unending competiitiveness, and you made me feel good like you have made so many other posters feel good. I have always thought the same way about you, we are all with you through this trying time, and want to see you win this battle with this formidable opponent, keep fighting, don't let us down, your family down, and most importantly, don't let yourself down. Keep fighting keep fighting keep fighting.

I spoke with Barb just now. They are still in the hospital. The procedure to assuage some of Doug's conditions was not able to be performed. It required that Doug lay still for 30 minutes. Because Doug cannot breathe easily, he cannot lay still for 3 minutes, let alone 30 minutes.

Doug has ballooned up another 30 pounds without eating hardly anything. The fluid is building and the lasics fluid pills are not working. Barb thinks that Doug's kidneys may not be working. Doug weighs more now than he has ever weighed in his life.

I also wanted you to know that I spoke with Doug and your wishes and prayers were shared with him. He was overcome with emotion as was I. Your compassion and love is sincerely appreciated.

Barb thinks that Doug's kidney's have shut down but that hasn't been medically determined yet. Doug's attending nurse has paged the doctor who has yet to respond to the page. The nurse and Barb have many additional questions that need to be answered.

I am not a person to cry that the sky is falling but the clouds have darkened this day and my optimism fades with every passing hour.

Thank you for your kind thoughts, wishes and prayers.

Hopefully, in the future I will be able to pass on better news but will share whatever changes I hear with you.

Geese Doug,

This is terrible to hear. God Bless you Doug, you are in my prayers sir.
I hope you get better soon.

Thanks for the updates Joey.... It just makes me sick that all too often the guy that has a deep impact on those around him, the guy that makes everyone laugh and everyone can't wait to see or hear from, gets the short end of the stick in the final strecth of life! F'ING BRUTAL!!! With their wit and lust for life Smorg and my Dad could have very well been twins and my Dad caught nothing but bad breaks the last two years he was alive. It just sucks..... Without Doug on here who is going to make me laugh hard enough to shoot pop out of my nose??? That's the real question.....

Joey,
You're very special to us brother. Thanks for the updates and I'm sure that Barb feels your strength and support. Thanks for supporting them both.

Joey,

Thanks for taking the time to keep us updated, despite how incredibly hard I know this must be for you.

I'm sending my hopes for the best.

Wow.

I first met Doug online on RSB in the early days. His wit and ability to diffuse tough situations effortlessly was something I admired and I quickly became a fan. It made pool forums special because, with him in the lead, people were nicer and more open to newbies than other forums I read online.

I guess you could say that Doug is a big reason why I spend time on pool forums even to this day.

But I don't hold it against him :)

Seriously, I am pulling and praying for Doug and Barbara.

People suffering from depression need to hear from people who care about them. Is there a room number and hospital address for us to send cards, notes, pictures, and such to let him know we are all thinking of him? Thanks.

Keeping Doug in my prayers.

JoeyA,

You're the friend all of us wish we had at a time like this. I just wish that I had the chance to meet you and Doug. If the opportunity comes up in the future, I'll make a point of it.

In the meantime, would you please tell Doug that I just gave him a standing ovation for all of the great posts he has made here for many years.

JoeyA -

A prayer of thanks to you Joey for showing what it means to have a true friend in one's life not only to be there to share and enjoy the laughs but to be there to shine a light when the road is dark and scary - Jackson

Very well said.

I echo the sentiment.
