SOMETHING IMPORTANT: Smorgass Bored

Like many of you I 1st met Doug on RSB in the late 90's. We are original members of the Rogues Gallery.

In May of 2001 I was vacationing in Florida and drove about 50 miles to meet Doug and play in his weekly tourney at Planet 9 Ball.

On the way I stopped off and found a bottle of wine called "Fat Bastard", it was the perfect gift for Doug.

I'm proud to call him a friend

Doug, you are one of the most truly amazing, and joyful people that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I still laugh at the mere thought of some of your posts, and marvel at the complexity of others. I have been honored and privileged to have you in my life.

I will continue to think of and pray for you, hoping against hope that fate will turn in your favor.

Thank you, Good luck, and God bless you, my friend.

Jim

Please pass the chicken soup

I never met Doug (that I know of, lol). :(

I can't, nor will I, try to put myself in your shoes Doug. I have seen my parents suffer to the end, and I gratefully chose to be there with all my love and support. I knew when it was time to stop pushing. Not all family members could accept this, and the flow of comfort was disrupted...

I made special effort with my parents to regale the tales of yore, and I am confident it was some of the best chicken soup on the menu.

I would like to recommend someone start a thread, someone very close to Doug outside of forum life. A thread EXCLUSIVELY devoted to telling Doug tales of yore. Not a thread for best wishes, just one all can get lost in; transporting to another time and place. Barbara could read these bowls of chicken soup to Doug, and our friend may find some comfort therein.

All the best of everything possible to you Doug. May you and yours be blessed with superior wisdom, clarity, calm, strength and love in your time of need.

Your friend,

Matt

Unfortunately I never met Doug, but we PM'd a few times, over the years. He was always helpful, whenever I might ask a small favor. As has been said 1000 times, his wit and humor here are legendary, and appreciated. Doug...Thanks for making all of us laugh, again and again! AzB just isn't the same without you!

Business, financial, national leaders, sports stars, etc, are often tauted as heroes but... imo  what they contribute is tiny compared to the good that comes to all who are touched by the person who has the gift of being able to make others smile and even laugh. Those who have that gift and choose to use it despite their own hardships are the real heroes and are the ones who make life better for all of us.

I'm grateful I got to be influenced by Doug. He made many of my days bright and full of light and love, and still is.. through this thread, even though he can't type Doug's legacy lives. Love is like that.

Rep

Would someone please hit Doug with some rep for me? I have been trying to rep him for about 2 weeks and the forum doesn't seem to think I've given out enough rep to others, yet. Good grief!! If I can't hit him with some rep, maybe I can at least give him rep through all of you guys!

There's more than one way to skin a cat!!:shocked2::yikes:

Sorry, Doug. I mean, there's more than one way to skin a skunk!:grin:

Thanks!

As always, great post Joey! We, the breed that came here from RSB land, are the truly lucky ones because we have had a full plate of Doug for a decade or more. Think about that!!! Ten years of Doug making people laugh and brightening peoples day! As Joey said, Smorg would occasionally needle someone and get on their wrong side but I guarantee you that those same people were laughing at Smorgs "wittisms" no matter how mad they were at the man writing them. Just a few things that stand out in my mind from the old days........>>>>>> "The Legend of Tampa Tubby-Bob", "Barbarachinid", "~>*(((>< Big fish eat Little fish ><)))*<~", Dougs fishing, food and poker tales, and his log term commitment to WebTV (I am still trying to figure that one out!?!?!? LOL).... I was raised by a man with a similar lust for life, uncanny wit and the ability to make people laugh. Thanks for all of the giggles Smorg, every single one was greatly appreciated! It's people like you Doug that make a difference in the lives of others and hopefully there is a reward for that at the end of the trail! All I can say is Godspeed my friend and remember....

~>*(((>< Big fish eat Little fish ><)))*<~

Your friend,
Kirk

PS.... I will still rep you every time this damn system will let me!!!! I owe you at least another 500 greenies and if this system would let all of us rep you as much as we would have liked, you would have been a rep billionaire by now....................

I have been around here for a while and I have seen quite a few popular posters come and go. I will truly miss your contributions, funny or serious, to the forum. I hope you find the strength to press on but if it is your time to leave then I wish you the very best.

I have enjoyed your take on life over the years, you have made me laugh more times than I can count.

All the best,
Daniel

No words for this

Joey, thanks for giving us that story. about Doug's fairness and integrity.

I have no words for this, just tears. I never met you Doug but I can only hope I meet up with you when you are at peace. You reached out and welcomed me here with your kindness and wit. I thank you for that. All the prayers in the world to you and your loved ones. Please God, spare one miracle for Mr. Wiley.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

he is to az what paul harvey was to us all.

PERFECTLY STATED........

Smorg, you and your family will be in my thoughts.....it tears me apart to see that you're giving up, but i think i can understand.

You'll always be #1

I would have my badge on there but can't seem to upload anything, right now. I keep trying, a couple of times per day. I'll have an avatar, again, soon! Hmmmmmmm.....

Let's try uploading an image to the post I'm making.....

Ha!! I skinned the skunk!!
(I couldn't upload ANY pics, last night!)

I too never met the man, and I've only been a member for a short while. I have given and received some rep from Doug, but that doesn't compare to the laughs I had from some of his posts. I have been following these threads about him regularly. I dont have the words for situations like this, so all I can say is GOD bless this man and his family. Be at peace brother.

Josh

I think you're better looking than the fish...but just barely...imo

Doug,

I will never see the letters imo without smiling and thinking of your posts. You have made me lol more times than I can count. Wherever you may be your stories will live on with me as I've saved a bunch of 'em and tell them regularly to everyone who will listen.

Thanks for the laughs...imo.

Mike...thanks again Joey.

Doug,

You have made my short time here a pleasure with your kindness and friendship. It is with a heavy heart that I write these words, but I know you go to a far better place and the pain will end. You are loved and cherished.

Let's petition Mike to place Doug in the rep hall of fame and never be out of first place in our forum and in our hearts.

Dwight

Joey,

It is my honor to know you.

Dwight

Nice post Joey........

and I hope Doug can pass along some other tidbits for you to share with us, if he feels up to it.

To Smorgie,

You ARE the spice! ...... thanks for sharing

I know we'll meet down the road, and when I step up to the challenge table.... I'm NOT playing you for my nickname, or for braggin' rights.....
but I will buy the beer, win or lose. I might need a little spice now and then so I hope you won't be stingy. If the "ghost" steps up to play, we can take him on... scotch doubles ... and show how partners can rule the table..... tubby style.... and GRIND him down till he cries uncle.

Until then, if you make it up "there" first and you see me playin' and I'm praying that I don't miss ... send me a sign to bring a smile .... and I'll remember it doesn't matter... it's the 'spice' that counts. Always the spice!

Sincerely,

Tim
