Stan's Jost West Cap

CueCaps

Another super nice guy I met was Stan Haines.
He was at the Cornorstone booth (With Bill and Luan and Paul) at Valley Forge SBE.
Stan has one of Bill Stoud' best work on a cue I've ever seen.
And, Bill made a lot of Masterpieces.
Stan's Cap is suppose to be a 3D version of a Fleur De Lis.
Bill's Fleur De Lis inlay has 2 top leaves..So, I made this base with a double row of " 8 Pedals".
Those radiused Ivory Rings were slotted and then hand ground to make them appear to be coming out of the middle.
Crown pieces are all threaded on, so,
they can be unscrewed and replaced if it chips..
Thanks Stan..

Crown

When I look down the point of that crown,
I can see an 8 point star, caused by the reflection of the crown's 8 points.
In that 8 point star, I can see the Ivory's grain pattern.
It looks like a hologram..
because those white lines in the grain are surounded by a semi-clear material
that lets the light pass thru.
Nature is amazing!!!
If you get a chance to see Stan with this cap, try see that star in the top.
Cap is all Ivory, except for Alternative Ivory Tendon.

Stan's cap

This photo is before polishing the ivory.
I still didn't glue the components together.
I gotta aline everything, even the grain of the Ivory has to be aligned,
so, all the cross hatched paterns stay on one side in line..
And, I wasn't sure on the final design.
If you were to cut this cap in half, and see it in 2D, it would look sorta
like a double leaf Fleur De Lis with a Crown..
Still can add Scrimshaw...

Wow. That is some seriosuly impressive work.

That cap is REALLY cool. Looks kinda like a Queen from a VERY expensive chess set!

I love the fleur de lis design and this is a great 3 dimensional take on it.
Great job.

I must say stunning work! Alton I also was sorry we didn't get more time to talk at the show....Lee

Alton,

What a magnificent cue cap! Stan is going to be very, very pleased when he receives this and puts it on the Josswest. I have held the cue several times, and it is one of the best cues Bill Stroud has ever made. This cap will take it to another level.

Stan,

Congratulations on your newest addition to the cue. It is stellar. I look forward to seeing you again in Santa Fe at the ICCS Show this fall.

Take care,

Will Prout

Sorry, the pictures aren't the best, but I think you can tell how nice the cue is and how nice the cap will look.

Hope Stan don't mind...................

Joss West by Bill Stroud

Thanks for all the complements guys..
Snakepool, the cap's about 3" tall. It's for presentation at shows. Top will come off for storage too.
Yes Jim, I'm the guy in the middle..
Hey Cb, My slighty out-of-focus photo. See the double top leaf...
Bill's execution is amazing, his attention to detail is seen thru and thru, his designs are beautiful and timeless...
I tell you, Bill Stroud is another Amazing Guy.
It's so hard to comprehend the level of execution that these guys are on..
It's bordering on Alien Technology.. I swear!!!:grin-square:

Stan, Will, Steve, Myron, Jimmy, Jamie, Walker, Bill, and all the collectors out there,
You guys deserve much credit for all the beautiful stuff that's coming out these days..

If not for you guys, I (And I'm sure the cuemakers too) would not get an chance to create art. You guys inspire us to reach and achive the next Level of Beauty that keeps the cue world is evolving.
Thank You all...
Alton
