It could be these cues of Scott's could be an inside job at the hotel with hotel workers
Have a friend had a car stolen from a motel by an employee. They took the car keys off the night stand.
Years ago I worked in a building where the maintenance people were stealing everything not tied down.
As for the Red Roof Inn... no cameras?

I am so sorry this happened. The feeling of being violated is terrible. I had my laptop stolen at a Marriott hotel in NY while we were at a Joss tournament in Albany. I will never forget that feeling.

Apparently, there are people who steal anything visible in a car, even small change, and they work in teams in our community. These car thieves are called "lifts." One group walks down a street or parking lot and looks in vehicles to see if there is anything worth stealing -- loose change, cell phones, GPS devices, laptops, cell phone chargers, musical CDs. They actually lift the handle of the car door to see if it is unlocked; thus, where they got the nickname "lifts." However, even a locked car is not safe if there is something visible and inviting to the thief. They just break the window. My daughter left her wallet in her glovebox while she ran into the drug store to get some times. Five minutes, she was gone and came back to see her window broken and wallet gone.

After the first group of "lifts" target which cars to steal from, the second group of "lifts" then walk down the street quickly while the first group keeps watch. At the end of the night, these car thieves can gather up as much as $100 or more in loose change and other niceties that people leave in their cars, thinking the locked car is safe.

As a result, I never leave anything in my car visible, with the exception of a face mask. Cars are not safe to store things now. Also, in my case with the stolen laptop, there was a maintenance man who came in our hotel room to fix a towel rack, and the next day, he never showed back up to work. I know it was him. Well this is intresting about the "Lifts", and I will try and make simple point. Place that have strong laws, and punishment do not have these problems.

Fried was career USN, recently I ask what was safest place you got to shore. He replied Singapore, cops everywhere, place clean, merchants or resturant owners did not harass tourists.

Very tought on law breakers, cost is loss of tad bit of freedom.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

However, I am surprised that you have been traveling for decades and didn’t learn not to leave your cues in the car.

I also leave my Cue Case on passage side, front seat. so I take with me is I stop.

Thieves work fast, now they steal catalytic converters at night from car parked outside.

All they need is two minutes.

1982, I had a Dodge van, parked on an incline at my residence. Came out the next morning and put it in reverse. ''clink'' the drive shaft couplers had been removed, but the thieves were unable to steal my drive shaft due to the pre-load and rust that ''locked'' it in place. Since i's was a van, they were easily able to crawl underneath w/o being seen and do their work.

Midnight auto supply, like this is old school thievery.

This is my first opportunity to get online and post this here. Last Monday night, in front of my room at the Red Roof Inn in Lafayette LA, someone got into my vehicle and stole my Garmin GPS and worse, stole my JBCases 4x8 full-zippered Orange ostrich leather cue case with all my cues in it. I had both of my Samsara cues, my break cue, my jump cue, and 10 different shafts, including 3 Revos, 1 Becue, McDermott G-Core, Tiger ProX, and the original shafts that came with my Samsara cues. I did make a police report, but I don't have much faith that much will come of it. For any of you in Lafayette (and I know there are several) please keep an eye out, and your ear to the ground regarding any news of these cues. I am offering a $500 cash reward (no questions asked) for the return of the case and cues. If anyone has any information, please call me at 773-551-7473. Thanks in advance for any help.

Scott I am very distressed to hear this. Your cues and case were unique which greatens the chance of them eventually coming home as they are harder to fence.

I know this probably doesn't help right now but try to remember everything we have in this earthly existence is just stuff compared to our relationships and our health.

I think this thread maybe one of the more important threads that have been on here in a long time. I doubt there's a player who read this that doesn't have the imagination to think what it'll be like if it happened to them.

I'm sure a lot of them are vowing never make that kind of mistake. Some of those cases with the long straps that you can wear on your shoulder or around you like a quiver may look a little goofy but that case is never out of your hands or out of your sight.

I remember when those Fellini style cases were so popular. You go in the pool room and they'd be leaning against the bar, leaning against the table, laying on the floor half the time the player would have to go looking for his cue wondering where he left it last.

FYI Scott was guest at Red Roof Inn-Motel, this crime was not infont of a Pool Room, but where he was staying as a guest of the Red Roof Inn.

Maybe the Red Roof has video survalance, that might help catch the POS THIEF.
They said they had motion-activated cameras, and the police were supposed to follow up but I haven't heard anything yet.

Damn, Scott, sorry to hear this.

Rest assured in the metro Kansas City area we will all be on the lookout for your gear.
The Samsara cues and special JB Case are all easy to spot, as are the entire lot together.
Press the local police to review security video. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Let them know it is your livelihood.

I know the Nevada have Cameras everywhere, problem is the Casino use cameras for there protection, and use.

Friend had breaking to his vechicle in hotel parking structure.

Friend was told by hotel security, our cameras are for our use? No to protect guests. File an insurance claim.

Pawn shops know a lot of what they get is stolen. Many are nothing more than thieves themselves. The cues could be in a backroom waiting for interest to wane before being offered for sale. Pawnshops are also increasing their use of Ebay, etc. to move their wares. I would set up an alert to be notified when anything meeting the description of the items stolen pops up. Might get lucky.

I know someone who recovered a stolen cue by posting flyers at all the bars and pool halls with a picture of the model and offering a reward. The thief peddled it to an innocent unsuspecting buyer and the transaction was witnessed by someone who saw the flyer. Thief was caught and the police confiscated the cue as evidence. The owner got the cue back and the innocent buyer was out what he paid.

This is very insightful, experience-based, and by implication -- instructive:

Whenever possible, avoid *direct* honest replies to even the most innocent, casually-asked, friendly-sounding chit chat from any hotel employees, anywhere, about "what brings you to our lovely town" or "what kind of business are in."

Yup. It could also have been someone in the parking lot or in a room looking out on the parking lot or even parked across the street making a list of hotel guests who left something interesting in their vehicles. Or someone at the pool hall who noticed which car (Florida plates?) Scott was driving. And sometimes it is TSA, which I know from experience.

Scott didn't say how they got into the car. If they got by the electronics and the key fob and so on and they're professionals and they steal dozens of things. In this case they made a real score.

Also if they're this professional, those cues are not turning up in some pawn shop and nobody's going to walk into a pool room trying to sell a cue. Those cues are gone.
Watch the video below. Its not too long and pretty interesting.

I did not go to any Lafayette pool rooms on this trip...just visiting friends, and doing private lessons. The theft occurred a week ago tonight...so far no luck in finding them.
