Streamed Matches Need To Start on time

I don't believe I'm the only one that get's PO when a match says 8 PM EST on the flyer and the match don't start until 8:30 or later. I don't care if it's PPV or a free stream. Pool is the players job. Any job you must be on time or you won't have the job very long. If a player needs 1 hour to warm up he needs to get there about 2 hours before the starting time. No one wants to tune in at start time and watch 2 guys warming up for 1/2 hour or more. Some of these matches go on for 4, 5, or 6 hours. Adding another 1/2 hour on top of that isn't good business. Guys and gals that have to work or just have to get up early for some reason will stop buying the PPV's and watching the freebe's (most have donate buttons) after it happens more than once. Our PPV matches always start within five minutes of the published start time. The stream starts thirty minutes to an hour before so people can log in and make sure its working for them.

For some reason in pool everyone from players to commentators to fans wants to wait until two minutes before start to go take a piss or smoke a cigarette. It drives me absolutely batshit. Its like actually starting on time would be the worst thing in the world.

Happens in Congress too. Everybody is sitting in the committee rooms, waiting for the commencement of the hearing, and it seems like the committee members come rolling in when it's convenient for them. The 10 a.m. hearings begin at 10:20, 10:30.

Then, if there's a roll call, that really throws a monkey wrench into the logistics. I liken a congressional roll call as a player needing to take a smoke break. :grin:
 
I agree with Johnny. Not sure which ones do and don't start on time, but it gets old when things are routinely 30 to 60 minutes late.

When I was watching the Accu-Stats one pocket last week, I was truly in SHOCK, that the matches were lagging for the break within 5 minutes of the start time, every single match I watched. I have been conditioned to expect a long delay.

It just adds another level of professionalism to do what you say you are going to do and start when you say you are going to start.

This isn't meant to single anyone out. This is the entire pool industry. From live streams, to local weekly 9 ball tournaments.
 
If they are free streams, don't complain, you're getting to see an event you normally wouldn't. If you're paying for it, a 15 minute or less is acceptable...things happen, if longer, complain away, you paid for the right.
 
Starting matches late is a clever move the streaming powers that be put on my wife. She knows I'm sitting back at 8 to watch, so she calls for me to give her a hand with something. It never fails.

Let's not change any of that.
 
I don't think its that big of a deal...gives me 30 more minutes to pound 2-3 more pre game beers to get fired up.
 
Put me on the side that PPV should be on time, free streams can do whatever they want.

TAR just about always starts on time. That is one of the many reasons I buy all of them. Johnnyt

I donate to most of the free ones I watch if they are done right and have top players in them. Johnnyt

What is the reward for starting on time? Is it worth the cost (nagging the players, etc)? How much control does the streamer have over the tournament players, if any? (Challenge matches like TAR are a different animal...the schedule is pretty simple).

Are you going to watch two low-ranked players because their match always starts on time, or will you watch the top two players in the world even though they rarely start on time? We're the customer and our actions call the shots...and our actions are to watch the best players, regardless of their adherence to schedules.

Of course, matches "should" start on time...add that to the other millions of "shoulds" in our lives.
 
I don't get mad because basically I got nothing else going on with my evening,
so it's not like they're keeping me from some important appointment. And I can stay up quite late no problem.

I do agree on principle though that people should do what they say they're going to do. It's not difficult, TAR pulls it off seemingly without a hitch.

The reward is for the fans, not the players. Many of these challenge type matches go real late into the witching hours of the night. Then, when they start 40 minutes later than scheduled, it just adds to that. I'm a night owl myself, but even with that, I've slept right through the end of many matches.
