Stunning news: FREE IPT Challenge Match: Johnny Archer vs. Earl Strickland

Listen heres my take on it.

I don't care if IPT makes money , or loses money. I am a person who just would like to see pool promoted one way or another.

If it's through an avenue like this or not, the FACT that sponsors might even remotely consider it is a step forward than what is being done right now.

Obviously we all would rather see someone like Allen Hopkins host this - than hey - nobody would offer 1 complaint.

But in perspective of marketing - KT is a pretty smart dude (and you can't deny that) - It's sick but it's true.

SO - In my last post on this subject - If the scumhole that KT is wants to pull some type of gimmick - Im glad it's in pool and not selling 100 pages of worthless crap.

Call me a dreamer , but I look at it as if he changes just 1 person into being a pool player , than we have 1 better chance more of pool becoming somthing greater.

And if your interested [probably not :)] - yes I've owned my own business yada yada yada.

& I own a bunch of Red Bull Machines (hence my example)

IMO this type of thinking is one of the main reasons pool has been unable to make a sustained push at the mainstream. People on the outside see how people who supposedly "know" the sport do not care about shady behavior and just go the other way. Why waste resources on people who have such low expectations of their own sport.

I've seen a lot of shady stuff in pool that KILLLLLLS the image - and it's not the promoter my friend.

Exactly. It is the tolerance of that shady sh!t that is the reason the game is dieing at a high level in this country.

Integrity is the key. I will never understand why many in the pool world seem to care very little about it. That is the really depressing thing about pool in this country. People lie, cheat and steal. Get caught, and everyone just goes "Guy's gotta eat" "Bad press is better than no press" and so on. It needs to change.

Well a bigger step forward would be cleaning up the game. Amen to that.

If I got a penny for the drugs I've seen in pro level tournaments I'd be at Coinstar right now.

And I wasn't around in the pre-90's.

I've never found giving things away for free to be a great way to raise money. It's even worse than loosing a dollar on every sale while expecting to make it up in volume ... at least those fools have a bit of cash flow ... negative cash flow, but giving things away for free gets you nothing.

As far as driving up their IPT website hit-count, I would think that any sponsor would look to sustained traffic (like we have here on AZ, day after day) as opposed to an ultra-hyped one-time-event hit-count. Any reasonable amount of due diligence will uncover the extremes to which Deno has suggested promoting this ONE event (and why), one that benefits only two players, and one that apparently has no value (it's free after all). This sounds to me like they are grasping at straws.

Dave

REally, and what does google.com do? If you don't think that giving away things for free doesn't produce revenue, then you don't know the marketing model for the majority of revenue producing websites.

That's really besides the point. Ever since the IPT first came out people were bashing and bashing it. my question is why can't we just enjoy a challenge match and be done with it. Let KT and their people worry about business models and the like. I've already stated that
I find what they did reprehensible and I have a couple of close friends who got completely screwed after winning one of the qualifiers that didn't end up getting played, so I'm not just talking out of my ass, but if this is a possible way for them to make reparations, let them do it and just shut up about it. Hell it's friggin free, let it go already. Of course I do understand that certain people out there don't want the IPT to have any chance of succeeding because it might take away from their ptoential revenue production.

Res[ectfully,

Google does not give away anything for free, it never did.

Google originally had deals with merchants to get a percentage of business routed to the site.. Google had the best search out there, and when enough people started using it, then advertisers were charged fees for being on different Google pages.

Google has different business models for different services provided to businesses and customers alike. I do not think that for any extended time period in it's beginning that Google ever "gave" away it's search services. SOMEbody was paying for it.

Just because you think that customers are getting it free, doesn't make it so. Customers pay for the search services with their time spent on Google, and businesses buying advertising from Google pay for all the services by also purchasing the customer's "time".

That doens't change anything. The users of the search engine are not paying for it directly. They may pay for it infdirectly, and I'm sure that if IPT makes any money off of this match, it will be indirectly as well, either through generating interest in the other matches they have for sale through their website or through revenues from advertisers on their website, but to say that giving something away isn't a good business model is plain dumb. And this is the last time I will post anything on the IPT. PERIOD. because I am tired of people using nonsensical arguments because they hate the IPT and KT more specifically. I AM NOT DEFENDING THEM OR THEIR PRACTICES. I am just offering possible explanations for what has happened. I'm done.

I was accused of being a scab picker by mentioning the IPT in a thread a few weeks ago that started out with nothing to do about the IPT itself.

Ironic.

Now it seems to me that anyone that is making $$$$ off the IPT is the real scab. Crossing the line to make money while your fellow co-workers are still waiting for theirs. I wonder who is next. The IPT is dead & should remain as such. The hope of $100k per year for not even making a ball or being able to make a ball has kept many players wishful that the IPT will be resurrected. Sad. :(

KT has already moved on to The Debt Cure 'They' Don't Want You To Know About. Another infomercial scam.

By the way, in case you missed it---On November 19, 2007, Trudeau was found in contempt of the 2004 court order for making "patently false" claims in his weight loss book. U.S. District Court Judge Robert W. Gettleman ruled that Trudeau ?clearly misrepresents in his advertisements the difficulty of the diet described in his book, and by doing so, he has misled thousands of consumers.? A penalty will be determined at a later hearing I can only hope the penalty fits the crime(s)--those he has been convicted of & those he has committed. It is no coincidence that this IPT announcement coincides with his present legal troubles. One last gasp.

Well, I have two things to say here:

1. These two most probably ain't going to get paid anything but PROMISES.

and

2. If they DO get paid before the other 30% of the monies owed are paid off, they are BOTH permanently on my **** list. And this would be really disappointing in Johnny's case, as not once in his career have I ever seen him do anything in other than a professional manner.

Russ

Oh No.......not your shitlist!!

I sure hope neither one find out how dissapointed you are. If so, I'd say there is a pretty good chance the match will be called off. And you'll be the blame.

Do you really think either one of them care what YOU think???

These two never even reach the top finish in all the IPT tour. They should have chosen from either, Rodney, Reyes, Manalo or Hohmann.

Reyes would never agree to this. Trudeau still owes him a part of his winnings. I have to give Trudeau some cedit of how good he is on what he do and thats taking advantage of people or situation. He is a classic example of a true scam artist. TRUDEAU>PAY UP>

At this juncture, let's do a little roll call for those who posted on this thread.

All those who competed in an IPT tournament, signify by saying "aye."

All those who have never competed in an IPT tournament, signify by saying "nay."

I would hasten to guess that the majority of posters on this thread have never competed in an IPT tournament.

I maintain that the majority of IPT competitors, those who actually did compete in an IPT tournament, are hopeful that the IPT will return next year with a new platform.

That's a pretty good bet being less than ten pros even come on here. Are you saying that the othe 3000 or so non-pros on here have no opinion? Johnnyt

Of course, I am not.

What I am pointing out, though, is that the opinions expressed on this thread, the majority of them are from those who do not compete professionally. Whether the IPT sinks or swims will not affect their life one bit.

However, for players who do compete professionally, some of these so-called "pros" may desire for the IPT to return in a more sustainable platform.

The UPA, I am sorry to say, does not seem to be bringing forth a decent tour for professional-caliber players. For American male pros, this is a sad reality. The organization relies on independently promoted events, but does not seem to have a great deal of support from industry sponsors. The BCA organization should be doing everything they can to help the UPA, an organization they created by giving an entity with no track record the authority to be the governing body of professional pool in the United States. When the UPA struggles, the BCA turns a deaf ear.

Several super star American pros have lost sponsorship recently. They were just a very few American players who enjoyed this novelty. Now I can count on one hand the number of American professional players who are sponsored by industry members, with monthly income, win or lose.

So, aside from DCC, U.S. Open, the once-a-year BCA invitatinoal, and some regional tours, there does not seem to be many events with high payouts for professinoal players, at least on American soil.

After experiencing the American tournament trail firsthand, I think I can speak a little bit on this matter. Even if you win an event every now and then, you're stuck big time from all other events you compete in. If you don't win, place, or show, you cannot even break even.

My opinion is that if the IPT can bring forth events with payouts that are decent, then this is a good thing for pool players.

My interest in the IPT coming back in a different platform is more aligned with the professional player than the spectataors, audience, railbirds, pool fans, and pool enthusiasts.

Some in the American pool culture do not think very highly of pool players. It is quite a different pool culture in other countries.

If you want to see pool competition go overseas, then it may be a good thing to keep on bashing the IPT and all other organizations which are trying to keep pool alive and well on United States soil. I want pool to grow in America for professional players with multiple events which give them an opportunity to make money. If I stand in the minority, then so be it.

Assuming that the players are playing for prize money and not for free, I think it is pretty disgusting.

I don't know what the personal finances of either player are but I wouldn't suspect that Johnny, for example, is financially distressed. If they are, then, hey, you gotta feed the family.

If not, I think it is a little sad that they would accept money from an organization that owes large sums of money to pros who ARE in many cases, not well off financially.

Regards,
Jim

if you heard archer's podcast on runout radio a few months back you'd know he's not exactly doing well financially, all his sponsors have pulled out.

If you think 15,000 people are gonna watch this LIVE I have a bridge for sale. Spider knows what he is talking about.

This is about driving traffic to their website. It is the one thing that will continue to generate revenue and new customer info that sponsors will pay for. My stance on the IPT has been pretty well documented here. I will let that horse rest in peace.

The thing that is interesting is the new NACPBA tour. The more I learn about it the more excited I am getting. There is a long way to go yet, but it is just possible there may be some light at the end of the tunnel that is not a multi-level marketing train. These sound like serious people with good motivation. Hopefully we will all know more soon.

IPT is dead, no amount of wishing or free matches is gonna change that.

There's a HUGE difference between Youtube and live events.. HUUUUGE. When you see 15000 viewers --- that's on-demand viewing over a period of time. Hell, Gucci couldn't get over 4k viewers for a live event and they spent over a million dollars in marketing across Europe for their fashion show.

...and to the pea brain who said something about "people taking a high moral road when they have no skin in the game" -- I'm out more money than probably ANY of the players due to the IPT so I have more skin in the game than this whole board has on its entire body.

But just to make sure I'm ruining Trudeau's perception of pool even more.... he was prob handed a stack of papers by an old guy wearing a uniform not long ago. Just to clear my conscience, it'll get ruined to death before too long. What does the action report shirt say? Bet something.
