SVB Hotel Room Broken Into!

From Shane's FB page:

To people in Wyoming. If any information knows who broke into my hotel room or if anyone knows who did this and I get my stuff back, I will give 2k. Otherwise, Hopefully one day I will find out who did this.

Here is my watch that has been stolen.

Stole 2k cash, my 2 watch, Hugo boss coat, deodorant and Chanel cologne. Yea, that’s right my deodorant and cologne! Didn’t take my cues and my Gucci traveling bag. Obviously the person is stupid not to take the $2500 Gucci bag.

Send to Shane,

It is usually the boyfriend of the maid that was serviceing his room.

Just FYI:

Posting a sign in one's business or property stating "not responsible for ...." doesn't necessarily mean it is so. Just like posting a sign in one's car window stating: "Not responsible for damages caused by accidents"... doesn't hold water.

Lol...that’s what I was saying. Signs, waivers...etc mean nothing. The hotel is responsible, just like people will still file a lawsuit after signing a waiver and getting injured.

A friend of mine had his cues picked up in a hotel. He told the mgmt and they said they’d look into it...long story short he said forget it I’m calling the police, not long after the cues were “found by hotel staff”.

Yeah-usually it's about appearing rich so you can get robbed.

Bingo! I once was a money courier, making cash deposits as part of my job. Not armored car money, but some pretty sizeable amounts. I concealed carried, but I also drove a very average looking car and dressed kinda poor...off the shelf cheap jeans and shirts, cheap tennis shoes, cheap digital watch, etc. Never had a problem...always made it to the bank with a large bundle of cash. Why make yourself a target?

I feel for Shane, really do. Also hope the perp gets caught and his watch returned.

I learned long ago that it's better to stay low key in life. I don't drive 100K cars, wear expensive jewelry or dress like I'm rich. I live in a nice home in a middle class neighborhood and have no desire to move to Beverly Hills or own a new Mercedes. My used Lexus gets me down the road just as good. Being flashy will only draw the attention of low life's and there are a lot of them around EVERYWHERE!

I'm triple careful when I go out at night because that's when the vampires come out! I'm always paying attention to who's around me and who's looking at me. Just call it a good poolroom education . And if you're a bad guy you better be careful with this old man. I could be packing and I won't hesitate to defend myself or others.

For the most part I've had no real problems in life (have had my home burgled once and been the victim of a pickpocket in Manila), but it may be my knack for spotting them first and saying hello with a slight smile. For a bad guy it's disarming when you confront them and look them in the eye. They are looking for weakness and an easy mark.

I also always leave a Do Not Disturb sign on my hotel room door and empty my own waste baskets, and if I'm there a few days I will let the maid clean my room with me there. My money and valuables go with me when I leave. Better in my car then my hotel room.

You were driving an average car, wearing cheap clothes, and a cheap watch BECAUSE you were a money courier. Just because you handle a lot of money doesn't make it yours.

What about your other car? Lol

Well said. Vigilance is key. Packing heat will do no good if you get caught by surprise.

Pretty sure inexpensive renter's insurance covers hotel stays. Could be wrong but for a traveling person the 30-45 bucks a month would be a good investment

Think this happened earlier in the week. Shane has posted this a few days ago too. It is very weird that they didn't take his cues and left the expensive bag. No matter who did it, I hope karma gets them or the cops.

Thiefs only pick up what's easy to sell.
Guns and Jewelry are at the top of the list. Drugs are in there too.
A thief couldn't get more than 25 or 50 bucks for Shane's cue at a pawn shop.

It just struck me that Shane is the last name in a long list of pool players...
...that went on the road and lost his watch.

The fact that they didn't take his cues says a lot. That tells me someone around the game. A nonplayer would assume that it's a champs cue and must be worth something. A player or someone around the game knows it's worthless and much too identified with SVB.

Not necessarily - could be the cue wouldn't fit in the laundry cart and the watch is easier to flip.

No sir. Insurance companies will split hairs as far as losses go. "renter's" is just that, insurance on the property you rent as your "primary domicile" meaning your home, not some random motel. AND you have to explicitly list every item on the policy, or guess what? SOL. Now traveling business/courier whatever, they have completely different insurance.

And I'll ask again.. for fook's sake, why is Shane leaving two large and a nice watch in his room... really? The cues?... sounds replaceable.. Gucci bag? Everyone assumes it's fake. Two grand and a nice watch?... hell to the no.

Most, if not all Renters/Homeowners policies cover much more than "on premise" losses, even lost luggage while traveling. I imagine that there may be some bare minimum, budget, policies that may not, but I've never seen any. Read your policy and/or call your broker.

Some of us dinosaurs like wearing watch and feel nekked without one on.

Me, too.

When I play pool, I wear a cheap Casio that I paid about $22 for about 15 years ago.

It came with a 10-year battery that I replaced a couple years ago for $5.

I have put about five $5 bands on it since I have had it and it is still going.

It keeps perfect time.

Longest lasting watch I have ever had.

I only travel with expensive watches if I never plan on taking them off.

Uhhh, how about a Leica M6 with a 35mm Asph lens, stolen from the HOTEL SAFE...
yup, that happened... Marriot Maui. I had to sue them... took a year to resolve.

Yep. But at least there is no way out for the hotel if you take them to court. I doubt that all States and Countries have laws that would make the hotel responsible for stuff left in the room - including the room safe. I have yet to hear about a place where the hotel safe was legally a problem after a theft.

Also: Even if you have insurance or deposited in a hotel safe - they are trying not to refund you most of the time. But at least you have a great case in court in some instances. And they know that.

If it was a pool player at the event it dwindles the number of suspects substantially. Plus, it being posted on Facebook and Here means that SVB believed it was someone in the pool community!!!

A small group of pool players make that trip. Plus, not a large field of players!

Curious to see the players list. Funny story, I was at Derby and witnessed a top player begging the maid to let him in the room. She refused and then came the cash offers...

I started putting my cues in my suitcase and locking it for added security and safety after witnessing the shenanigan's in the hotel. Trying to get into a backer or stack horses room after a big win!!!

The first time I went to Vegas for the VNEA tournament, I hid money in the deodorant that was almost used up. Someone gave me the tip to remove the deodorant part that advances with a screw at the bottom until it comes out, then stash the cash.

Apparently this tip was known to the thief also.

Have no ideas on why the cologne was taken unless they liked the brand and it was small.

Yeah. Why have a nice house? Makes you look rich and worth breaking into. Nice car, nah, just risking getting it boosted or carjacked. Nice clothes, bad move. Don’t eat at a nice restersunt either because they’ll be waiting outside because rich people eat at good places. Got you.

Lou Figueroa
hope there’s a
Taco Bell nearby

I’ll take a good house over a nice house, a good car over a nice car, a good restaurant over a nice restaurant. Works a treat everytime.

Also, he might be covered if he used a credit card to buy the watch. There are usually tons of conditions but recent purchases are often covered against thefts by some banks. Several years back I had an iPhone stolen on a trip out of country. By providing some documentation I was able to get reimbursed by the CC company.
