TAR 32: Ronnie Alcano vs Jayson Shaw March 29-31, 2013

The one single match between two of the best players on the planet does not completely convince me the game is broken, it certainly makes me think the table needs to be tougher then normal, and that showcase of 8-ball by those two was done on the old "too tough" TAR rails...

I have always said, 8-ball on a 10-foot table with Fatboy pockets would be the ideal professional pool challenge.

they had 8ball on 10 footers at the Accustats Make Tt Happen event,,

so if that showcase of 8 ball was on the old table with tighter pockets, how do you think its gonna be on the new standard pockets? the game is just too easy for these guys.

althought JS and CD made it look pretty hard when they played it lol

Dude, at least respond to what you quote.

And as far as your point about John Schmidt and Cory, that is a fairly good point. Both Dennis and Shane can dismantle any game currently played at the professional level including 10-ball. In reality in the SVB/Orcullo match SVB did miss about 3 shots/outs, but Dennis went on a huge dry break streak that killed him and SVB's break yet again proved to be a massive weapon that can get him through a match where he is being outplayed.

I don't think there was near enough of a chance given to 8-ball to really judge it, we had Dennis and SVB shoot the lights out, we had JS and CD make it look alot more difficult, and we then never saw it again and now the TAR table IS way too easy for the game.

If they get the Fatboy rails which were offered to TAR any time they want them I think 8-ball should get some more exposure, unless of course it sold like crap, but given that TAR actually sold replays of the 8-ball matches it seemed to me that from a sales POV the game may have done very well compared to other PPV's.

well you say "apple stuff" but they do make computers, so you might want to clarify what "apple stuff" your talking about. I have 2 apple computers and they play streams fine obviously because they're computers. Tablets cant do every a computer can do.

I have an iPad, an iPhone and a MacBook Air. None of these will run the streams despite my best efforts. And I have an excellent connection btw.

CreeDo, you are correct...

ipad/iphone users:

You may be able to watch the stream with an alternate browser.
I seem to remember people on the forums or maybe in TAR chat saying they got it to work.

One app in particular might be worth a gamble: Skyfire.
I used it on an old windows mobile phone, one that definitely didn't support flash,
and I was able to get the TAR stream going in it.

Found an article that lists a few options including skyfire...
at 3-5 bucks it may be worth a gamble, or maybe someone can confirm
whether any of these succeed/fail before anyone gets out the wallet.

PS to JCIN: think shaw's name is spelled Jayson.

I used my iPad to watch the last Tar match when Shane ate MD for lunch, but I did have to use the Skyfire Browser..it worked great, no blips, very smooth.

A must watch!

You should ask some of the guys in NYC what Ronnie's local record is against Jayson. Might surprise you.

That said...I think the conditions and attention surrounding this match will be an interesting factor for both guys to deal with. Ronnie is a proven Champion capable of winning on the biggest stages. Jayson really has impressed me with his attitude and level of play. I'm glad we were able to get these two together. I think it will be a hell of a match.

I agree completely CIN. This is going to be an incredible match - a coin toss indeed! I know I'll be tuned in for sure! Thank you once again TAR!

The first time these guys matched up, Jayson had just come over to the U.S. and I had to implement what I called "Break Possession" to level out the playing field so that they could match up even in action play. (http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=295477&highlight=alcano+shaw)
Ronnie Alcano prevailed in that matchup on the Diamond 10 footer BUT after that, Jayson Shaw came out on top in 5 out of 7 tournament match-ups that I am aware of AND in heads up action once again after that!

I'd like to see how they match up NOW after Jayson has made a name for himself here in the States (at least on the East Coast). He has beaten several top level pros in both, tournament play and heads up. He's a bit more comfortable and seasoned in our environment now.

A great TAR match to watch indeed! It could go either way!

I'd like it if they played rotation 8 ball. Ball in hand behind the line on all fouls.

I think that would be more of a challenge for anyone on the current table than regular 8 ball on a harder table.

Uh oh, somebody goin sizzler. And yes, Ronnie does have a losing record vs. Jayson at Steinway. He's put a beating on several pros at Steinway (Earl on the 10-foot, too). What amazes me about watching him is how he slams difficult shots like they were hangers. But, didn't Alcano beat him in Cali a few weeks ago? Either way, this is going to be a good match.

Shaw did lose to Alcano in SoCal but only because he jumped off the table a couple of times and Alcano ran those two game out. The match went hill/hill.

This kid Shaw is the real deal. The closest player that he reminds me of is Earl when he first broke into the scene. This match is one of the most exciting TAR has put together.

For those that haven't seen Jayson play, you're in for a treat. Tightwad that I am I will pop for this one. Good work JCIN

Last time I talked to audiovideoweb about it I got the standard issue web geek answer: "We are working on it"

I have found this translates to: At some point in the future we may or may not do something. If we do something that something may or may not actually work.

I'll bang on 'em again this week and see whats up.

I checked their site http://www.audiovideoweb.com several months back, and they claimed an html5 video feed for iOS customers. I checked again just now, and below is a screenshot of thier page.

Are they fibbing, or are you using a differnt product that is not what they are advertising, or something else?

Thank you.

I am using the same flash player we always have which is audiovideoweb's default player. I will be using a new Tricaster for TAR 32 and it gets here this week. I know the set up will change from the old model so I'll work with them to try and get it figured out.

JCIN,

Have you guys ever considered offering the TAR matches for "rent" on youtube? It was the first time I'd come across it, but I remember in the past before they folded the Seminole tour was offering matches for rent. If memory serves it was like a dollar or two for 24 hours.

I've been watching a lot of professional pool via youtube lately. The TAR channel, and a few others have a lot of good stuff that's available on-demand there. Personally I enjoy having the ability to watch matches when it suits my schedule and unfortunately with the streams being in the afternoon or evenings on the weekends I either have to choose to watch live or get out of the house and on a table somewhere. For me that's a no-brainer and is the reason I haven't seen any of the TAR's except for TAR20 (SVB & Earl) because it was posted on youtube. I admittedly felt guilty watching it since it wasn't an "authorized" upload, but not guilty enough to stop I guess. You guys are putting out some great stuff and I'd love the chance to support what you're doing. I'd just like it to be a little more convenient schedule-wise if you know what I mean.

Vimeo just launched a VOD capabiity. I'm in the process of setting ours up now. I should have the first matches ready for viewing by the middle of next week. The service is ala-carte and not a monthly membership but it will allow people to watch our events when they want for a reasonable price.

Pricing will be along the lines of $5 per one day of a TAR match. So if you only want to watch the 8 ball set from TAR 29 its $5 and if you want to watch all three days its $15. You will be able to watch what you buy as many times as as you want for one year. It will average out to around $1 per hour of content.

That's awesome news, are we gonna have access to old TAR matches? Like svb and mills for example?

Does Ronnie speak English so he can be part of a podcast the day before the match? Johnnyt

I like the way Shaw plays, only concern....his board play needs improvement.

You know when thier young they want to shoot at everything. I've only seen Shaw play in tournaments. Maybe he plays more safeties when gambling. Johnnyt

I recognize his Earl energy, having beat Earl in his early days (four sets), its the one aspect that gave me the big edge. We did tho play two shot roll out, I definitely could not out shoot em. I just gave em enough bait to wanna shoot when he shouldn't have. Table was Damp/Dirty. Monroe Brock left $2K light 1979.
