Mark Griffin is up in the frozen tundra of Alaska this week so I had to go find a pinch hitter for a co-host. I think I did pretty good. Shane will be joining me tonight at 9 PM Eastern for TAR Podcast #8.

I am hoping Francisco will be around as well. He gets in town this afternoon so we'll just have to see what he has going on when the podcast is scheduled.

The podcast topics will obviously include tomorrows OB Cues TAR 24 match up between Shane and Francisco. I will be talking to Shane about his recent Mosconi Cup experience and his plans for 2012. If anyone has any questions they would like answered by Shane or Francisco please post them up here and I'll do my best to get them answered on air.

We will also be showing the free cue that OB Cues is giving away for their TAR 24 promotion. You don't have to buy the PPV to be entered to win just go here: http://www.obcues.com/pages/TAR24-Cue-Giveaway.html create a free account and enter "TAR 24" to be registered to win a free OB Cue.

Thanks to OB Cues generosity we will also be giving away a second OB Cue. Everyone who buys TAR 24 will be entered to win a free OB Cues Break Cue. We will discuss these promotions and many othet topics tonight live and free on www.theactionreport.com we will also do our best to take questions from the live chat but there is much better chance of getting your topic or question discussed if we have it before hand from this thread.

Please join us as we get ready for the kick off what I am sure will be a fantastic match between two great Champions.

Here's a couple:

Not including the break shot, if you had to pick the single most important shot to practice which shot would you pick?

If he feels like he's not playing at his best, what does he do to get there?

I could pick his brain for hours, but boy would it be boring for everybody else to listen to if I was doing the interview.

What type of match format does he like best? (Long race or series of shorter ones)
Besides Django, who is the toughest to beat in these formats?
Does he ever play or practice 14.1?

Who is the one player that he can't wait to get his hooks into?

Who would he really LOVE to play, but hasn't?

Would like to hear Francisco's thoughts on 9-ball vs 10-ball. Also would he play Efren or Alex in a challenge match on TAR?

I would like to know what match does Shane feel is his favorite that he ever played and which one is the biggest match he ever won.

I would like to ask Shane is their any chance that he could stir up a Bar Table 8 ball match for the Tar studio that the thousands of Bar Table 8 ball players are dying and begging to see.

We love seeing all the other matches but there are so many of us that play bar table 8 ball and we are dying to watch how the great players play this game.

I would like them to be asked:

1) In their honest opinions, what game would they consider to have the most edge over the other in? the least in?

2) What cues are they playing with?

@Shane - How much of a threat would Earl be if he worked on his break?

@Both - Earl made a comment about playing 2 tips off center for most shots in a previous interview. What are your takes on that?

@Both - What do you think the pros and cons of playing best of 3 to 25 versus race to 75 or 100?

Question for Shane

If Shane could recall his development as a pool player; what courses of action were most important in improving his level of play? I have had some players say it is important to stay in action, others say practice, or maybe formal instruction, etc. What does Shane say?

please tell Mark Griffin to let SVB talk. On the podcast #5 he was interrupting Raj and Oscar everytime. I understand he is the presenter and he has the right to stop a person if he is going too much offtopic, but in the previous podcast he interrupted the players too much,They were saying interesting things but they were interrupted. Basically in the previous podcast MG talked more than the players.
bye, no offence intended, only a suggestion.

Justin,

There is another thread talking about Earl and his $1,000,000 running of 10 racks.

Ask SVB what he thinks about odds of him running 10 racks of 9-ball. Same rules as Earl's run. I am having a problem with all these odds people are posting.

And notice one poster (iba7467?) says he will try it a t 20,000 to one. The proposition would have to be put up $20,000 and the shooter would get 15-20,000tries.

Does SVB think he could do it?

Just curious. ALOT has to be right to run 10 racks!

Have fun without me-

Mark griffin

Bob, those odds are calculated using tournament averages. There is often an advantage to playing safe and players would intentionally not attempt to run out or play a less likely two-way shot.

I know you have a vast understanding of probablities, but feel your baseline was incorrect because of the added bonus. For my estimation, I used the 31% you used for the first 5 racks and then increased the percentage to 48% which has been witnessed in recent TAR matches (even with the option to play safety and it being 10-ball). My number now comes to 1/13,708. If you apply the Markov's chain as you mention in the article the odds improve to more like 1/2,300. If you use 48% from the beginning - making the assumption that everyone was more concerned with the bonus than the tournament - It could have been as low as 1/256.

Before anyone pipes up that these numbers are ridiculous, I will gladly bet on Shane running 10 straight if I'm offered 20,000:1. Money must be posted. I might even bet on Donny if he can play in Florida.

It has been said in many different places that Dennis Hatch is willing to play any American for big money. It is known that SVB actually DOES play anyone for the money. Why has Dennis never played SVB? Which side is having trouble getting into the box?

Justin, you may want to ask these questions before you go on the air just to allow more time for a better response. If it were me my answer to some of these questions would be different if I had longer to think about them.

Since Shane loves playing, and testing himself against others, he must want more people to be able to play well so they become a challenge for him. Shane has stated he follows the HAMB method (in different words but the meaning is there) in his practice, so what does he think propels someone from bar-room banger to pro?

Does he have more advice than "hit a million balls" to help players excel at the sport?

What problems does he see with the average person's game that he overcame himself to play at his level?

Playing runs in his family, maybe he thinks some people are born to play?

It would be interesting to know what he would teach others so they can challenge him.

(All of this is asked with the genuine interest of growing the base of players that can play at a serious level).

Question for Francisco

How does he feel about Jose Parica not being in the Hall of Fame?

Jutstin, have you had the TAR championship belt made yet? ETA?

BTW you can have it gold plated to ensure most of your pool players dont just run over to see Chumley and Rick at the pawn shop.

Mark, thanks for noticing my post. Shane has run 7s numerous times, I just feel it is absolutely within reason to see it happen if the following two things occured:

1. He only tried to run out and never play safe or two-way.
2. He had the time and incentive.

I almost wish you wouldn't ask the question, because I wish someone would lay those odds.

Most great players come from an area with a lot of strong shooters around. Shane seemingly reached world class speed without any real championship level competition in his area.

How did Shane improve to world class speed without having a Johnny Archer or an Efren to beat him mercilessly until he got better?
